We just opened our second site, the Prairieview Chalet 2024 summer. Both sites offer great amenities. The Acorn Retreat cabin includes a hot tub, gas weber grill and other amenities. The boujee outhouse is shared by both sites and is cleaned regularly. The new Prairieview Chalet is an exceptional adventurers haven! It has all the things you want after a day(s) out in the wilderness, with amenities like a hot shower, fully stocked kitchen, linens and more. Our property reflects our love of the land and space. We are always making improvements, such as the timber framed chicken coop. We now have a ping pong table for our guests, and still offer farm fresh eggs. The southern half is home to 8 charcoal kilns which employed a community prior to ownership. The mountain is approximately 1.8 billion years old. Learn more about this land: This property has 2 tent sites at the western base of Hogback Mountain. Site 1, The Falls Site, is located on a spring fed stream. The hike from parking to tent site is 1/4 mile on a well-marked hilly path. Campers can park at the main property on County Road HD or on the Garden Road, and will need to pack supplies to their site. Site 2, The Garden Site, is 100 feet from the stream and campers can drive to and park their vehicles at the site. Site 3, Mountain View Cabin, includes an outhouse and sauna. Sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and an outhouse. Campers are responsible for removal of all other waste. The 2-foot wide stream provides water for washing, but is not considered potable, and use of filters or boiling water is recommended. These isolated sites are beautiful and rustic and nestled in the midst of the Noquemanon Trail Network (cross country skiing and mountain biking) and North Country Trails and are approximately 2 miles from Lake Superior, Harlow Lake and Dead River. 4 kayaks/paddles/life vests and a 12 foot boat are available for camper use. First come, first serve. You transport.

Bear Tree Homestead is nestled among the cliffs and ravines which drains the south face of Hogback Mountain located in Marquette Township Michigan. Hogback Mountain is one of the larger rock formations in the Huron Range, a surprisingly rugged, and diverse region of low mountains carved by glaciers. Each cabin is hand-built of log and stone using traditional Scandinavian building tools and techniques. The cabins have access to the pond, use of the canoe, a private fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill and privy. The property is on the North Country Trail, just over a Noquemanon Trail Network Forestville trailhead where access to year round recreation awaits. Hogback Mountain is just up the trail from the cabin with spectacular views of forest, mountains and lake superior. We are located 8 miles from downtown Marquette in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where there are many great restaurants, shops, and brewpubs. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.” In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history. Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work! Our property is located between Marquette and Negaunee, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. We are 7 miles from downtown Marquette, 8 miles from the shores of beautiful Lake Superior and 53 miles from Pictured Rocks National Park. We are about 4 miles off of US 41 nestled in a quiet forest like setting. We built our home here in 2019 and are continually making improvements to the land. We tap our trees for maple syrup in the spring-you will drive by our "sugar shack" and raise chickens in our very nice coop -no roosters to awaken you! Come and enjoy some peace and quiet at our Northern Oasis! There is guest internet but its patchy in camping area-better closer to the house and large firepit area There is a charcoal grill near communal firepit area. We are near 2 river basins(McClure Basin and Dead River Basin) for fishing, swimming and boating ( kayaks and canoe for rent on this site-see extras! ) We are on the route of the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike epic and not far from the North Country Trail. We have options of open sites and a couple more private wooded sites. There are at least two areas for small campers and several choices for tents and/or hammocks.. There is a communal/central fire pit, picnic table area as well as a larger fire pit with picnic table closer to house. We have nice fire wood available on site -see "extras" or for purchase when you get here! There are yard games, extra chairs and a small table in the red shed. This can also be used as a storm shelter if needed! There is a "port-a-john" on site- extra TP is kept in red shed hanging on nail in a bag. Please let us know if this needs attention.

Your host property is 13 acres between the Yellow Dog River, and Bear Lake, with frontage on both. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. There are two cabin sites available, One overlooking Bear Lake with sunset views, and the other a cabin that was moved to the property in 1999 to preserve it. Both sites share amenities such as the outhouse, communal fire pit and water, but the cabins are not in close proximity so everyone has their privacy. They are both rustic cabins having no running water, or electricity. A futon with mattress cover is provided in each cabin along with a table and chairs. See the individual site descriptions for more details. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town.  It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk!  There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town!  Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay.  A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history.  Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed. Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either!  You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Drury's General Store, where there's also a laundromat.  Burns landing just north of the marina has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior.  This park has picnic tables and grills, and even a handicap accessible outhouse and trail to the lake. Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook.  There are new bike trails if you're into that as well!   Stay awhile.  You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

There is room to bring a boat if you have one, and there is public access to Lake Superior within 5 miles of home. We supply a crock pot, blender, drip coffee maker, and all the necessities to cook a meal at home. It is conveniently located right off M28 in Christmas, less than 5 miles from downtown Munising, the beginning of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There are 2 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. Our cottage offers 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, and 2 full beds. Come up to enjoy Pictured Rocks & numerous waterfalls in the area. Only 2 blocks from Christmas ORV/snowmobile trailhead. The space During the summer, our cottage goes from Saturday to Saturday (not required to stay all 7-days). We are adding central air conditioning to the home for the summer of 2021. The second bedroom here is a little odd. It used to be a jacuzzi tub room. The jacuzzi tub was removed, and now there is a bed in there. The room still has a toilet and sink in it. We have added a curtain to block the toilet view from the bed. While it is unusual, we think it is worth keeping to have an extra lavatory for larger groups. The home has a beautiful view (especially for evening sunsets!) overlooking Furnace Lake and is very quiet and peaceful. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do :) Up to 2 dogs are allowed with preapproval, but there is a $75 non-refundable pet fee that will need to be added. Guest access Guests have full access to the home, garage, red outbuilding next to the garage, and yard. The red outbuilding near the road is not available to guests.

5 nights at Bear Tree Homestead

The Pond Cabin was exactly what we hoped for - a peaceful place to disappear into the woods for a week. What impressed us most was how thoughtfully everything was prepared. We arrived expecting to rely heavily on our own camping gear and supplies, but we hardly needed any of it. The cabin was exceptionally well stocked with cookware, utensils, fire-starting supplies, lighting, and countless small details that made our stay comfortable and stress-free. The loving care and thoughtfulness that went in to making it feel like a real home was so much appreciated. The setting is beautiful. We spent our days exploring local waterfalls and forests, and took day trips out to Pictured Rocks and Au Sable, all to return each evening to a warm fire, visiting hummingbirds, and the quiet of the woods. It struck a perfect balance between feeling secluded and feeling cared for. Jill and Nick were welcoming, communicative, and thoughtful throughout our stay. We tend to be fairly self-sufficient travelers who enjoy keeping to ourselves, and they were available whenever needed while still allowing the space to feel like our own private retreat. For anyone looking to unplug, slow down, and spend time immersed in nature, this place is something special. We can't wait to return.

Staying at Bear tree resort was a magical experience. The sounds pouring from the pond was like sourround sound. Leave your speaker at home and enjoy nature's concert The cabin was very very well built!! It was very cozy and felt very comforting! We were extremely comfortable both nights and would return to stay again! It was a very peaceful and unique experience.

It was delightful to unplug for a few days and explore the local area with a friend. Dark skies, a stunning hand-built cabin in beautiful surroundings and lots of space to wander and hike. It's a little challenging to find, but Jill sends detailed instructions beforehand. And their livestock guardian dogs are so sweet, but true to their jobs, do bark through the night. Otherwise so peaceful and beautiful, and full of such intention, hard work and love. (oh, and the cookies are SO good!)

I am so glad my partner and I decided to go away for a long holiday weekend. This was the last taste of winter I desperately wished for. I adore winter and being cozy. We unplugged from the world and settled in for the joy of just being. This beautiful cabin was perfect for that. I am so thankful for this space and time to be quiet with the snowy forest. Hope to come again in the future.

Beartree Homestead is a slice of heaven on earth. No better place to retreat in winter than Orchard Cabin :) The sauna & cold plunge setup exceeded every expectation. From the sauna’s master wood craftsmanship, to the availability of sauna accessories like towels and essential oils, to the pristine swimming hole carved in the frozen pond, we could not have asked for anything more. Nick & Jill are the very best hosts. Grateful to them both for sharing their homestead (sharing it again! return renters here) with us all!

Me and my boyfriend had an incredible time staying at Jill & Nick’s homestead. We stayed at the Pond Cabin in February, and it was magical! The cabin stays very very warm with the wood fired stove. Jill & Nick go above and beyond with ensuring things in the cabin are stocked, well taken care of, and clean. They are also very communicative and helpful. The location of the cabin was perfect, and the sound of the birds singing and roosters crowing in the morning is something I am missing after our stay. Will be back for sure!

Weekend Trip to Rudolph's Cabin

This is the cutest coziest cabin ever! Wonderfully renovated and such welcoming host's. Exploring the pictured rocks area during the winter was amazing, such beautiful ice formations. Hot tub was so nice to get into after the cold hikes. We had some road closed in town and was unable to get to the cabin on the first night but we were reimbursed and the host was super helpful with keeping us informed. 10/10 would stay here again!

While I’m sure the experience is different in the summer vs the winter, it was a perfect snow globe getaway for us. From the narrow plowed roads to the cozy fire warmed rustic cabin to the picture perfect pond and property, it was a great experience for us. We used it as basecamp and while it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere, the endless options within 15 minutes is a hard find and is perfect if you don’t want to travel far to enjoy your time. We spent the evenings hunkered down in the dimly lit cabin and enjoyed just sitting and staring at the pond, ducks and immediate surrounding area. A true winter wonderland for this stay and would love to return in the summer and experience what I would guess, a much different adventure next time. Thank you for having us.

My wife and I enjoyed snowshoeing and cross country skiing around the beautiful property and nearby park area. We loved the rustic setting with the beautiful highland cattle, chickens and friendly dogs we met on our walks. The sauna was anther highlight of our visit. We will absolutely be back again.

The hosts were very kind and communicated to make sure that I would make it in safely. The cabin was cozy with plenty of firewood for heat. Their little spot in the woods was beautiful and quiet with tons of trails and parks around. My dog and I had just the most wonderful mid-January, 3 night stay at Bear Tree!

The Orchard Cabin was like living in a fantastic dream - life slowed down and we had a chance to reconnect. The cabin is super clean, had comfortable beds, a warm masonry fireplace and electricity. Not difficult to find if you pay careful attention to directions. Kitchen was fully stocked with cooking equipment. Take advantage of the sauna!! We arrived during a blizzard (we have a 4x4) and Jill was a great communicator. The dogs were friendly and we were so glad to meet Jill and her husband. Also so grateful to be able to bring our pup.

Out time at the bear tree homestead was incredible. The cabin was well stocked with anything we could need, as well as books and board games for the quiet evenings. Jill and her family were absolutely wonderful and welcoming and they're dogs wondering the property were wonderful hosts. Highly recommend planning a stay here as I plan on a return trip in the future.

Booked a cabin at bear tree homestead about a month in advance in the winter, as a calm getaway. We couldn’t be more pleased with the friendly and relaxed atmosphere that Nick and Jill. Can’t wait for our next opportunity to make the trek out to their place and enjoy everything the site has to offer. Their communication was top notch and very helpful, especially with the record two feet of snow we got during our stay. One of the best amenities is the direct access from their property to the North Country Trail, and several other trails that can be hiked on.

Wonderfully beautiful cabin and property. A true homestead with cows, chickens, ducks, and a sauna. I will be recommending this place to as many people as possible. Can hike from cabin to Lake Superior on the North Country Trail! Phenomenal, very close to Marquette, but a feeling of great seclusion.
