We purchased this slice of paradise in 2003 as a place to relax, recharge, and someday build our dream home. It started as nothing more than a gravel road leading to a small clearing with an old bus and a couple decks. Our children have grown up out here learning a deep respect for nature and the real (non digital) world. Now empty nesters, we live on site. Part of our retirement planning is to spend next several years developing the lower portion of the property (approx. 15 acres) into a campground and retreat for our guests, as well as our own family, friends, and grandchildren.
The campground area (currently) consists of a handful of primitive campsites, and a group area. We are working steadily on improvements, including adding more sites, improving the roadways, and upgrading the common areas. In all we will likely have 12-15 total designated camping areas (including a group area or two, as well as a couple hike to secluded locations).

Our sweet town of White Salmon is 3 miles away and has all you need for entertainment, food, and supplies. The yurt bed is super comfy, and the bucket toilet is indeed a bucket, but gets the job done! Running water available, dogs encouraged.

Camp Colton was beautiful! I wish I could’ve stayed longer. The chanterelle yurt was great. The fire pit and the hiking trails were awesome. Would definitely come back!

We had a wonderful relaxing few nights at Camp Colton. It was wonderfully quiet with only crickets, the creek, and birdsong. We loved exploring the trails with our pup. The puffball yurt was perfect for two of us plus our dog. It was warm during the chilly nights, had electricity, the fire pit had a great grill top, and the nearby bathrooms were nice. Even waking up to the sound of rain on the roof one morning was nice! Highly recommend and we'll be back.

I took my two daughters, age 7 & 9, to Camp Colton. We had an amazing time exploring trails, playing in the creek, lounging by the waterfalls. The space was well taken care of with clean bathrooms and kind staff who waved at my kids. We stayed in Forest Cottage which has everything we needed. I will be inviting my friends to do a group camp soon.

Weekend Trip to Camp Colton
We loved our cozy stay at the Puffball yurt nestled into a gorgeous retreat area with several little trails to take in nature. The small fireplace inside the yurt kept us warm at night and we were thrilled at how clean and well designed the bathrooms are. Neal was a great help as well in getting us situated and answering questions. Highly recommend!

I almost didn't want to leave a review because I want to keep this place all to myself. This space was so perfect for a glamping get away. Everything you could need while also staying out in the woods was provided. I felt like I was back at summer camp with some swanky upgrades (the private showers and laundry?! Outstanding). I wish I had stayed more than one night, but I am most certainly going to be a frequent guest all year long for weekend get aways! What an absolute gem.

If you’re craving peaceful, no‑frills glamping nestled in a lush Oregon forest, Puffball is a dreamy pick. Tucked deep among towering evergreens and perched near Canyon Creek, this yurt offers one of the most secluded stays at Camp Colton. The host thought of everything—every little touch and comfort to make it feel so cozy and glamping‑perfect. Bathhouse with hot showers just a short stroll away. One thing to note though, if you arrive after 5PM, make sure you let them know ahead of time and that the number they provided is correct. Mine was not and we tried calling for half an hour finding way to get inside our tent.

Camp Colton provides a gorgeous glamping experience close to Portland. When you need relaxing and ease more than remote and rugged, this is the place.
Big trees, moss, ferns, scenic creeks, with beautiful metal sculptures sprinkled through, we enjoyed exploring the land. We walked each of the wild trails multiple times, delighting in the small waterfalls, quirky bridges, and wild flowers. Our two small dogs loved it.
The premium fire pit kept us at the campsite cooking and enjoying each other’s company at night. The yurt was comfortable, especially the bed, surrounded by greenery and a bird symphony in the morning.
We had so much privacy while being close to the bathhouse which featured hot, private showers, multiple toilets, drinking water, and laundry.
It was easy to leave and explore other parks in the area and pick up anything we forgot.

The whole campground is incredibly beautiful. We stayed in a yurt, the beds and bedding were way above and beyond expectations. All of the mattresses including the bunkbed mattresses were magnificently comfortable.
So, the yurt had a wood stove, but when we tried it a couple of times it filled the yurt with smoke even when we only left the door open long enough to get it going. I don’t know what’s going on with it, but we decided it was completely unusable. There was some kind of plug-in heater that didn’t put out enough heat to accomplish much. The yurt has practically zero insulation so it was drafty and cold especially near the walls. The second day I went and bought a heating pad thinking that would do the trick. It was an even colder night. I went outside at 2AM and could see my breath. I ended up taking a space heater from the bathroom and that made it reasonably comfortable for the rest of the night. I wished I’d brought a couple of space heaters and electric blankets. BTW this was in mid-June….so..?
We brought our 4-year-old twins along, and they loved it! My only complaint is that there is Foxglove everywhere. This plant is literally toxic. It’s fine it’s left alone, but it made me nervous with the kids running around. If you visit, please just be aware.
On a final note, the staff was wonderful—specifically Neal. He was very friendly and happy to help. The place is up-scale and all of the campers were quiet and respectful. It was much better than a state park!

Weekend Trip to Yurt camp near White Salmon
We loved staying in the yurt on Kate’s land! The bed was very comfortable and Kate made sure there were nice and fun amenities like a galaxy light for the evening and a hot plate and pour over to make our morning a little better with coffee. Kate was very friendly, as was her dog Wilson, and she made sure we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend staying here!
