Starting December 1, or first night below freezing we will be closing down Bath House and only access will be at outhouses. Only sites near outhouses will be open and there will be no access to water. Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky. We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays.

This property was once a 300 acre plus tobacco farm. We are located within two miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian trail via a gated, public, forest road. Hikers should park at their campsite and walk up. The original log cabin was built in the 1850s and now serves as our dining room. The front portion of the house was completed in April of 1861 and the back in the early 1900s. We have plans to eventually turn it into a working farm which produces tinctures, salves and extracts of various native plants. Learn more about this land: Heavily wooded mountain side with flowing creek. Easy access (walking distance) to Jefferson National Forest, National Forest horse trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. (Note: You cannot drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway as the path is an old forest road which has been gated, but you can walk up to it.)  We also have a tree house which has AC, heat and electrical connection.     You may camp anywhere on the property.  There is plenty of frontage on the creek and several tents can go up there. Great campground! We had a beautiful view of Sharp Top from our site. It was lovely being able to hear the creek all night along with a couple owls in the early hours. The sites were spacious and felt pretty private although we seemed to have the place to ourselves. The bathouse was clean and nice. I never caught his name but this little kitty was an excellent host too. Would definitely stay again.

We thoroughly enjoyed this campsite! The solitude and serene views were truly unmatched. We could see for miles, and the sunsets were amazing. We traveled with two young kids who loved exploring the nearby creek. The host was wonderful—friendly, attentive, and made sure all of our needs were met. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Buttermilk Bluff

The pictures don’t do the view justice at this place. Perfectly isolated, yet close enough to local amenities to go get something if necessary. The sights and sounds of the area are amazing! We saw deer, wild turkeys, a beaver, and plenty of friendly cows. With minimal light pollution, the night sky was breathtaking. Katie was more patient and accommodating than we deserved. We enjoyed campfires both nights and utilized the well placed utility hookups for our camper. I definitely plan to return and visit some of the local attractions that we learned about and weren’t able to fit into this trip.

Great site, we will be back again. The tent sites and cabins look amazing. We stayed in the RV site with electric and water. It was easy to get to and set up. The only negative is that you are close to the road and get the traffic noise. There is lots of room to roam and let kids and dogs play.

My dog and I were just passing through on our road trip and what a beautiful place to stay! We got there late, but were able to set up and an adorable orange kitty came to help. I really enjoyed how easy it was to find the site, despite it being really dark, and the site was flat and ready for me to set up. My friend & I loved camping at Katie’s site. Her land is so beautiful with a great view of the Peaks of Otter. There were really easy directions to get to the property & so helpful to be provided firewood. Also she was very kind to give us a little gift with s’mores supplies, a map of their property & recommendations of things to do. Also my dog (& my friend) loved watching the cows.

Weekend Trip to Stoney Creek Campground

A great place and host. Added bonuses were the nearby gas station , a nice view of sharp top mountain, close to the hiking trails for Peaks of Otters and close to Lynchburg. The bathroom has shower. washer and dryer. He has a good WI-FI connection. The landscaping is also nicely laid out. The cats and chickens are super friendly.

Weekend Trip to Thunder BRidge

This was our 5th visit back to Thunder BRidge and won’t be our last. Fall colors were popping as good as anywhere this weekend. The grounds were flawlessly clean and well kept as usual. Thank you Adam, your hard work is showing through ☺️

Actually stayed at tentsite #3.... Adam was very accommodating to my date change and even suggested the tent site for car camping. Great site and amazing to have restroom and shower so close. Good wifi signal at the rec room and even reached my site.

Quiet, peaceful campsite. Close to many outdoor activities but not far from town! Chris was a great host. Highly recommend for anyone with a small camper or tent/van looking for a more serene camping experience.

Stayed here in my 20' van for a week. Beautiful property, easy to get in once you figure it out. Bathroom was sufficient but as other have said it could use some upgrades. Very worth it for the price. Inconsistent cell service with T-Mobile and Google Fi (sometimes great sometimes non-existent). Cute neighbor cats that hang around too :) would definitely stay again!
