The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. The camp sites are private from each other with a large common area at the top of the hill with a fire pit, lean-to shelter, outhouse complex with water for hand washing (seasonally available) and sweeping views of the Green Mountains.
There are trails for hiking and mountain biking (no dirt bikes or ATV's) all over the farm and a beautiful brook in a sheltered mountain valley. Just a 5 minute drive to the bottom of the hill is the first branch of White River; a beautiful clean river for swimming and fishing crossed by multiple covered bridges that lead to the farm.

The SiloSide barn and homestead is better known around town as the "Old Somers Farm" in reference to the day when the barn housed 60 head of cows. The farm was a part of the Cabot Creamery Cooperative, and closed this era in the late 1980s. Prior to being a dairy farm consisting of over 500 acres, the property served as a tavern, inn, tannery, and has always been a traditional, well-loved farmhouse. Our farmhouse was built in 1785, and the barn built around the 1830s and expanded in 1941. The soil here is rich, and the forest full of wildlife. There are trails for hiking and mountain biking (no dirt bikes or ATV's) all over the farm and a beautiful brook in a sheltered mountain valley. Just a 5 minute drive to the bottom of the hill is the first branch of White River; a beautiful clean river for swimming and fishing crossed by multiple covered bridges that lead to the farm.

The site is located behind many large pine trees in the upper part of the field across from our house which is hidden and cannot be viewed from the campsite. You can connect with wifi at the wifi sign near the beginning of the campsite road. We have a few hiking trails on Blood brook road one of which you can walk to from our home and it’s only a very short distance away. We are located 3 miles from Lake Fairlee Public beach also known as Treasure Island so bring your swimsuit! We are also within 5 minutes of the Lake Fairlee boat launch so feel free to bring your canoe or kayak and enjoy a paddle around our beautiful lake. La Lu Farm is a beautiful property! The Goat Yurt is comfortable and the wood-burning stove makes it very cozy. The yurt is a good base camp for exploring the cute nearby towns and hiking in the Green Mountains. On a cold night, be sure to bring a warm sleeping bag and extra firewood (also, bring toilet paper for the outhouse). My spouse and I had lovely stay and would recommend!

And we were pleasantly surprised by having decent cell service (after hardly any coverage driving through Vermont all day). Likewise, we met Dave and he was very welcoming. We had a wonderful time visiting the animals and looking at the stars from Willoughby rescue. There was lots of fun to be had nearby and on site. We left a night early because we wanted to avoid the rain, but loved the eclectic and adventurous stay at the Thoreau Stream campsite (not recommended for the faint of heart/folks with less camping experience). It is a short but rugged trek from the parking spot, but the solitude is lovely. Definitely recommend sharing an apple slice with the donkeys, they are very soft if you are gentle.
