Shaker Mountain Refuge sits on 300, mostly wooded acres at the foot of the Green Mountains. With outstanding views of Camel's Hump (Vermont's second tallest peak), the refuge is a wonderful place to sit back, relax and enjoy the natural world. There are numerous hiking trails on site, as well as a beautiful swimming pond. Access to Camels Hump hiking trails is a short drive away. There is even a special added treat for visitors with a touch of Australian throw in by your Australian and American hosts... We now have 2 completely different sites, each with their own charm and things to offer guests. One is a cabin style canvas tent perched above the creek for romantic and peaceful interludes for two, while the other is more designed for group gatherings with an Aframe cabin, indoor/outdoor bath house and undercover entertaining kitchen/bar/dining deck. Nestled down in a peaceful wooded hollow with cleared vantage point for spotting wildlife while you party the night away around your firepit. I loved camping here! The view is one of a kind and it’s literally jaw dropping in person. The port a pottie was super clean and the host had some water available which was awesome! I wouldn’t say the site is super private as it’s right next to the hosts house, however they can’t see you unless they’re going up and down their driveway. With that being said, the host was lovely and very kind. She made sure we had enough blankets as it was chilly at night and the bed was so comfortable! I would definitely come back if I was in the area!

This was an exceptionally beautiful location with a friendly host and a very comfortable bed. There was a refreshing pond to swim in, and we could see the sunrise from the bed. What a magical space. 10/10. Thank you for your hospitality and generosity with the free wood! Would love to come back.

2 nights at Shaker Mountain Refuge

My partner was hesitant about going camping for the first time (city-raised), and I was able to convince them with the promise of a comfortable bed and a place to swim. Staying in the lean-to absolutely exceeded both of our expectations! The bed is so comfortable, and the views are unbeatable. We got to watch the moon rise up over the mountains our first night there! Truly magical. Waking up to a sunrise at our feet was so special and stunning. We floated in the pond for hours and met many frogs and newts, along with one sweet turtle. I cannot recommend this place enough, and we can’t wait to be back!!

Amazing doesn’t even begin to cover it. This place is beautiful beyond description. And the accommodations are exceptional. The bed in the lean-to is worthy of a 5 star hotel. The spring-fed pond is lovelier than any swimming pool. And the porta-potty is the cleanest one I’ve ever seen. I feel so lucky to have had the chance to spend a little time here.

Medora’s coyote lean-to is adorable and the views are absolutely stunning! The bed was comfy, the toilet clean, and we appreciated that firewood and kindling were included. Medora and her two dogs (Cookie and Posy) are sweet as can be.
