Bent apple farm is natures perfect scape, thanks to my husband and I efforts to create a sanctuary to share with others. From apple trees, beautiful pond and a rustic cabins. Our farm is at the edge of VT natural forest, with often gifts us the visit of wild deers, moose and turkeys. Our property has 5 cabins total that give a small little village feel to it, but spaced enough that each has its privacy. I am developing a garden of dyeing flowers, as well. Art classes and materials are available, for pottery [ beginner to advanced.] as well as sketching, fabric dyeing, plen air, or making mandalas. I do have leather tools, sewing machines, and stained glass. Bring your project or try a new one. Lots of space in the common barn area for group lesson, or set up a spot and enjoy all by yourself! Cabot has lots to offer for day trips, be it water sports, rail trail on bikes or walking, music, and cultural events, or purchasing fresh milk, beef, eggs, apples, cheese, or homemade breads, all from Cabot. Contra Dance, music from Cabot Arts, or at the Den our local pub, are 2 miles away. The Bread and Puppet, Highland Center for the Arts, Barre Oprah house, art galleries, etc within an hour drive in any direction. A great place for children, I have swings and trees to climb, games, archaeological digs, scavenger hunts finding 10 different antique farm implements, and learning how they were used, to learning about mini microbe's and how to be friends with pollinators. Massage including scar release, and MPS, Cranial Release, energy work with tuning forks and singing bowls are available. Singing bowl concert in the gardens can also happen! Expect the unexpected! Rustic, off-grid, tiny cabin on small farm. This 12x16 tiny cabin, sleeps 4-5. Has queen, full, and twin size mattresses. Propane heater(Mr Heater 18,000btu) to stay warm on chilly winter days/nights. Linens are provided. Solar generator provided. Compost toilet(bucket/sawdust) in cabin. Fire pit, wood fired hot tub(open year round), outdoor shower(spring-fall). Outdoor kitchen setup with sink, charcoal grill and Coleman 2 burner propane stove. 3 gallons potable water available, 5 gallons water available for kitchen, 2 gallons available in bathroom. Weekend Trip to Rooted Acres Farm

We had such a lovely stay here! The host was incredibly responsive to all our questions, and the cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It came with a portable heater inside that kept us warm at night (just remember to turn on the gas outside first!). Without proper winter clothing, it might be a bit chilly to stay here during the colder months, but we went toward the end of October and it was still perfect! And the hot tub!! Such a clever and wonderful addition! Just a heads up: you’ll need to build a strong fire to get it hot within about 3 hours, and you’ll likely want to make two fires - one for the tub and another to sit back and enjoy. Be sure to bring lanterns, as it gets dark pretty quickly once the sun sets. Even though we had cloudy skies, we could tell that on a clear night the stargazing would be incredible. The cabin is well-equipped with dishes and running water for light cooking, brushing teeth, etc. There’s also a small convenience store about 8 minutes away on the main road. Overall, we would highly recommend this place. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be returning!

I love staying at Fernando's cabin with my dog. They had everything I needed and nothing I didn't. The hot tub in the sauna were a real bonus. Loana and Ben were not in the least bit intrusive, but we're quick to respond when I had a question. Their sweet lab Simon greeted us as we were leaving. Would definitely return.

My siblings and I are obsessed with this place! It was larger than we expected, the kitchen is spacious, and the property's amenities (hot tub, disc golf, sauna, pond, etc.) were total treats! We appreciate the rustic charm and thought put into the fisherman-themed design. The outdoor shower and bath are a bit public (but maybe you're into that!).

The hosts have done such an amazing job creating a little slice of heaven at a reasonable price! My 7 year old daughter and I loved this place so much! And the hosts are incredible people with such a great energy and way of life! Everything needed was available on site. The shower was amazing! The wood fired tub is impressive! Some of the cabins are closer together, but didn't feel it impacted our privacy, we definitely felt like the only two in the world while we were there. The walking trail isn't long but it's very pretty, as is the pond. It was just what we needed, highly recommended. We can't wait to come back and check out the other cabins!

I very much enjoyed my camping experience at Rooted Acres Farm. Jerry was a wonderful host. He has created an amazing space there. Everything is as depicted. Some real engineering has gone into the off-grid cabin design. Things have been quite thoughtfully laid out. The cowboy hot tub is a real treat. It takes some time to get it up to a good temp but once it's there it stays hot for hours. You just have to be careful not to let it get too hot for your personal comfort.

A friend and I took our newly 18 year old daughters to Jerry's land over the weekend it was just what we all needed the hot tub was amazing we played lots of fun games and ate delicious food. With both our girls graduating high school this year it was nice to have a trip that we will have great memories of when we send them off at the end of the year. Highly recommend.

My wife and I had another wonderful stay at Jerry's cabin. We first stayed there December of 2022 and it was good to see and enjoy the subtle improvements over that time, demonstrating the host's thoughtfulness towards his guests. We stayed mid February with 30"+ of snow and cold nights dipping to around 0 f with a stiff windchill. The new propane heater kept the nip out of the air and the indoor cooking setup was well stocked with a counter top burner. Dimmable LED city lights and battery powered refrigerator were both nice touches. The improved wood-fired hot tub was a perfect way to relax after days of Nordic skiing at Craftsbury.

I loved my stay at Fernando's Cabin! I was worried about being too cold given the temperature outside but the cabin was so cozy, I had to actually to turn the heat down. The basics were all provided. I used my phone as a hotspot with no problems but there was also a hotspot in the cabin. The property is so beautiful and the hot tub was great. Looking forward to staying again !

We had a fantastic winter weekend at this lovely cabin! It was super cozy and had all the amenities we needed. There was plenty of water, the lighting setup with the electric battery was easy to use and kept the whole space lit at night, and the propane heater kept us warm all weekend. The space is super well designed and thoughtful from the decor, to the bathroom and little indoor kitchen setup. You can tell this space was created with intention and love! We had a lot of fun building a fire and using the cowboy hottub, and the property is magical. Would love to visit again soon!

Where to go

Lake Champlain

Often referred to as the sixth Great Lake, Lake Champlain is a huge freshwater lake flanked by the Green Mountains and the Adriondacks. Nearly half of the lake is in Vermont, parts of it are also in New York and Quebec, and it's known for boating, sea kayaking, swimming, and an array of camping experiences. Campers will find a variety of options near Lake Champlain from RV sites with full hookups and dump stations, and glamping sites near Burlington and St. Alban, to state parks with tent sites right on the lakeshore of Grand Isle and Burton Island.

The Northeast Kingdom

The northeast corner of Vermont is the state's wildest and most remote region, filled with world-class mountain biking trails and challenging hiking trails. Several state parks dot the area, including some with the northeast's most charming campgrounds: Brighton State Park, where you'll find lakeside camping and waterfront cabins, and Maidstone State Park, a favorite among fishermen.

Green Mountain National Forest

Featuring rolling hills of dense forest and some of the best fall foliage shows in the northeast, Green Mountain National Forest is one of Vermont's top outdoor destinations. Hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing weave through the Green Mountains along with nearly a dozen national forest campgrounds and day-use areas.

When to go

Summer is the best time for camping, hiking, kayaking, and paddling in Vermont. Most Vermont state parks are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, although some parks are open through the second Monday in October and others open earlier and stay open later. Fall is especially lovely, when the leaves turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow—catch the show in late September in the northern part of the state or mid-October in the south. Ski season typically runs from December through March.

Know before you go

Vermont State Park reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance. Reservations can be made online, by calling the state park's reservations center, or by calling the park directly (during open season).
Many Vermont State Parks have "lean-to" campsites featuring a 3-sided structure that can shelter campers from wind and help keep gear dry. Some campers set up tents inside the lean-to, and others just use it for cooking and staying dry.
Some Green Mountain National Forest and Groton State Forest campgrounds can be reserved ahead of time online. Plenty of first-come, first-served campsites are also available.
