The Center Farm

1 site · Lodging142 acres · Hardwick, VT
This land is a very special place. The energy is calming and you will feel at peace with yourself after just a short time walking through the woods. This property was first purchased by my great grandfather in 1919. I was fortunate to be able to purchase it from my father in 2007. Much work was done to bring it back from being neglected and overgrown. The original buildings burned to the ground in 1948 and the property has been rebuilt over the last dozen years. It is a work in progress but also a labor of love. Enjoy a stay in this small rustic cabin. Experience peace and solitude while enjoying magnificent views atop forested hills offering stunning southeast views that overlook Vermont's central mountain ranges. The site is secluded and private and is ideally situated to view wildlife, allowing one to experience the outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. WiFi is available at the barn should there be the need to reconnect with the world at large. Two guests sleep comfortably in the cabin; four would be a little tight but manageable - there is ample room for tents if need be. The 8' x 8' cabin has one set of twin bunkbeds (bedding is not provided) and an 8' x 4' covered porch. In the colder seasons there is a propane Buddy Heater available to keep the cabin cozy. The outhouse with a composting toilet is situated close to the cabin. There is a fire ring on the stone patio with a cooking grate available for grilling. Pre-purchased firewood will be at the cabin, ready for your arrival. Additional wood is available for purchase on the way up to the cabin. Recently added is a portable kitchen, set up outside for an easier cooking experience as well as a wash bin for dishes. Items available at the site: Water for dishes Cast iron pan for grilling/grate cooking Small pots with covers (multiple) Pizza pan for grilling/grate cooking Basic grilling utensils (spatula, tongs) Serving spoon(s) Various eating utensils/knives Cups/plates/bowls Dish soap & cloths Heat-resistant gloves (for grates) Small propane grill First aid kit & fire extinguisher The main property is located in the heart of a rural farming community between the town of Greensboro (home of Caspian Lake), and the village of Hardwick. It offers 3 - 4 miles of groomed, wooded trails, ideal for walking, hiking, mountain and fat biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The cabin is also in close proximity to Hill Farmstead Brewery (7 miles), The Highland Center for the Arts (3 miles) and the Willey's Store (3.5 miles). The village of Hardwick (3 miles) offers local shops, markets, restaurants, Buffalo Mountain Co-op and Front Seat Coffee (an artisan coffee house also offering free WiFi). 13 miles from the town of Craftsbury and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, an olympic-style sport training facility catering to all ability levels. Additionally the central location offers access to many of Vermont's State Parks (Green River Reservoir State Park, Elmore State Park, Groton State Park, Crystal Lake State Park, Willoughby State Forest, Brighton State Park, just to name a few) offering daily access for hiking, fishing, swimming, paddle-boarding, canoeing and kayaking.

Firefly Farm at Burke Hollow

4 sites · RVs30 acres · Burke, VT
Our story begins around the turn of the millennium when we were expecting our first child and thinking passionately about how we wanted to nourish him. We planted our first garden, shopped at the co-op, and began working with whole foods: baking our own breads, tortillas, canning jams, and freezing small harvests. After an unexpected move to the coast of Maine, we took advantage of the climate, and began growing a lot of our own food, raising hens, and dreaming about a farm of our own where we might grow enough food to sustain ourselves. The dream included a farm with an old barn, still standing, and a place to build a tiny net zero home. It also included many vegetable gardens, a farm stand, a mature apple orchard and sugarbush, a pond, a cleared pasture, at least 25 acres, and it had to be in a cool town in Vermont. This list grew over the years, as did our family. As a family of four, we had become very connected to our community in Maine, and suspected that we would not return to our home state until many years later when the kids were grown. But one night at the kitchen table, in a moment of political frustration, we peeked at the real estate listings, and there was our farm! All of it! Waiting for us! So we jumped ship, all four of us, and said good-bye to our dear friends and the house that had been our home for almost a decade. We bought a used camper and landed, home. In our first two years back, we built a small energy efficient house, a chicken coop and a sugar shack. We dug a pond, created gardens, grew some vegetables, planted berry bushes and more apple trees, thinned the sugarbush and boiled some sap. With the help of the Vermont State Conservation Grant, we began rehabbing an 1800s barn that is the only remaining structure of the original farm. In our third year, we launched a CSA, opened a farm-stand made and sold maple syrup, erected a hoop house, built a greenhouse and guest space. Our dream evolves. We are doing what we love, in a beautiful place, and designing a means of sharing it all with others. We hope to continue to grow food, nourish our community, host events, and allow the dream to grow for generations. Tucked in the hills of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, Firefly Farm is committed to providing access to locally grown food free of pesticides, utilizing farming practices that enhance biodiversity while combating climate change, and working with nature to promote wellness for our Earth and all its beings.  Stay with us, connect with the Earth, engage with the community, and recreate in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom! Our campsites are primitive. There are no toilet facilities and toilets are the responsibility of the campers. All waste must be carried out and disposed of properly. Thank you for keeping Vermont clean!

Green Mountain View’s

1 site · Tent48 acres · Barton, VT
Please look up the Wiki about Barton Vermont . Fascinating history and information about the area . This property will be turned into a homestead for my now 13 year old daughter who has become too Americanized and on her phone all day 😉. She is going to learn how to grow her own food and become fully self sustainable . In the meantime I would like Hipcampers to enjoy the property and the views . Learn more about this land: Great mountain and lake views on secluded 48 acres ! The property is close to Crystal Lake , Lake Willoughby. You can see Canadian mountains from the top camping site . I Recommend parking in lower lot and hiking to the top to camp. The road is a off road/logging road to the top. Hipcamp and myself does not cover any damage to your vehicle . Read reviews before booking. It is a hike to the top that takes about 10-15 minute. Wear proper footwear . Must be a camper, outdoorsy or in decent shape to book this campsite . Again , please read reviews before booking . Thank you

Camp Sunshine

1 site · RV, Tent25 acres · Plainfield, VT
My property is about 25 acres in size on a dead end road that connects with a 40 acre undeveloped Town Forest and extensive private forest beyond. A long private driveway through a diverse forest leads up to the top of the property that is an open meadow with southern views of the Groton Mountains. There is an RV site as well as shaded and open tent sites with a fire pit and some firewood available. There are extensive carefully maintained trails for nature walking and biking throughout the property. Many kinds of wildlife thrive in the larger area and expect the opportunity to listen to the melodic sounds of nature without human interference.
