Our story begins around the turn of the millennium when we were expecting our first child and thinking passionately about how we wanted to nourish him. We planted our first garden, shopped at the co-op, and began working with whole foods: baking our own breads, tortillas, canning jams, and freezing small harvests. After an unexpected move to the coast of Maine, we took advantage of the climate, and began growing a lot of our own food, raising hens, and dreaming about a farm of our own where we might grow enough food to sustain ourselves. The dream included a farm with an old barn, still standing, and a place to build a tiny net zero home. It also included many vegetable gardens, a farm stand, a mature apple orchard and sugarbush, a pond, a cleared pasture, at least 25 acres, and it had to be in a cool town in Vermont. This list grew over the years, as did our family. As a family of four, we had become very connected to our community in Maine, and suspected that we would not return to our home state until many years later when the kids were grown. But one night at the kitchen table, in a moment of political frustration, we peeked at the real estate listings, and there was our farm! All of it! Waiting for us! So we jumped ship, all four of us, and said good-bye to our dear friends and the house that had been our home for almost a decade. We bought a used camper and landed, home. In our first two years back, we built a small energy efficient house, a chicken coop and a sugar shack. We dug a pond, created gardens, grew some vegetables, planted berry bushes and more apple trees, thinned the sugarbush and boiled some sap. With the help of the Vermont State Conservation Grant, we began rehabbing an 1800s barn that is the only remaining structure of the original farm. In our third year, we launched a CSA, opened a farm-stand made and sold maple syrup, erected a hoop house, built a greenhouse and guest space. Our dream evolves. We are doing what we love, in a beautiful place, and designing a means of sharing it all with others. We hope to continue to grow food, nourish our community, host events, and allow the dream to grow for generations. Tucked in the hills of Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, Firefly Farm is committed to providing access to locally grown food free of pesticides, utilizing farming practices that enhance biodiversity while combating climate change, and working with nature to promote wellness for our Earth and all its beings.  Stay with us, connect with the Earth, engage with the community, and recreate in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom! Our campsites are primitive. There are no toilet facilities and toilets are the responsibility of the campers. All waste must be carried out and disposed of properly. Thank you for keeping Vermont clean!

Excellent Host!
Ben was an incredible host for me while we were in the area for a bike race. Excellent host. Communicative, patient, hospitable. He checked in with us while we were cooking dinner just to see how we were doing. We shared family stories and he kindly wished us luck on our race the following day. Already looking forward to staying there for Rasputitsa ‘24! Thanks Ben!

Amazing stay at Firefly Farm!
This was the best possible first time camping experience ever! We were greeted upon arrival and introduced to their beautiful land and farm stand. We got some fresh produce (it was so good!) and cooked it up that night. The area is very comfortable with so much to enjoy. The fire pit came in handy with the cold nights. I loved every second of our stay here and I 100% recommend it to you as well. Thank you Ben and Michelle!

Bery nice place. Don’t expect much in the way of amenities but do expect great views, clear air, plenty of quiet and all the goos stuff of camping. Make sure you bring whatever you want besides firewood and water because you are a poke from services, just like camping should be

The campsite was comfortable with nice views and the outhouse was well set up with a creative yurt design. There was also a nice fire pit with a table. Ben and Michelle were over the top kind and accommodating. We helped them move a few pumpkins and squash and they overpaid us and potatoes and home bake cookies.

Ben and his family have a fantastic place to stay. Just a couple miles from East Burke and Burke Mountain, and only 1-2 miles from the KT network. Site 3 is on a small knob, set back in the trees, with a nice atmoshpere. The communal fire pit has everything you need, including views and a grate for grilling. I highly recommend Fire Fly Farm and would absolutely be back next time I visit!

I had a wonderful time camping at Firefly Farm! The woodchip bedding provided a nice level comfy spot for my tent and the privy was very clean and stocked up. You absolutely can't beat the price and I would highly recommend camping here!

What a great quiet place, wonderful location for riding Kingdom Trails, and what a nice host! Plenty of trees, space, and a most unique, nature-friendly loo. A farm stand on the property and a sugar house where proprietary syrup is produced... had a wonderful time!

Campervan Site
We had a great experience staying at Firefly Farm. Parked our van in site 1, which is level, on the edge of a meadow, with overhanging trees for shade and a nice view. We took full advantage of the farm stand in the barn, which is stocked with veggies, eggs, meat, cheese, etc. The composting outhouse is really cool, tucked away in the woods not far from the campsites. We used this location as a base for riding Kingdom Trails, as it is just over the hill from East Burke. The hosts were super nice.

Amazing outhouse!!!! Literally no smell. Very private with only 2 other campsites. Beautiful farm and pastoral view. Close to KT for biking. There is a firing range relatively close by and during daytime hours you do hear the sounds of that in the distance and there is a bunch of road noise, but other than that, great

Nice place to stay for the weekend: well manicured tent site, paths, and the farm itself is beautiful (plus the farm stand is convenient). It's close to Burke and the Kingdom Trails, and a little further on is Lake Willoughby. Would certainly recommend over a busier commercial campground with RVs, etc.

Campsite 2 - A Weekend Of MTB
Firefly Farm was a great place to stay and ride Kingdom Trails from! After finding the driveway to the campsite, it was a very nice place to set up camp for three nights. Camp site two was definitely cozy as it is only a small patch of mulch in the woods, but it fit one tent, and a pop up cover pretty well. We also were able to have two camping hammocks setup at the site off the edge of the mulch, which was very nice! Overall camping here was an extremely good experience and I would definitely come back again. If I could change anything about the setup, I would say maybe put the open bottom outhouse (which was a very very cool outhouse) farther away from campsite 2 and don't charge $5 per bundle for firewood for a communal fire pit! Especially when were already paying a premium for this campsite each night. Thank you to Ben our host, and hopefully we will be back again next year.

Although we only stayed for one night, we fell in love with the place. The views, the fireflies at night, the maple trees and the vibe exceeded our expectations by far. Michelle and Ben made us feel very welcome and helped us with the bike trails in the area. The organisation of the camping is well thought and it remains very private even when there are other people.
