It was a little confusing as there was no designated Campspot. Just a lot of picnic tables. So we parked near one and set up camp with our RV for the night. We loved how private it was and quiet it was. Now that I understand how it works. I would definitely go back again.

Super great place!! I was by myself and felt safe and enjoyed the tranquil scenery with tons of birds and wild life. The creek was perfect! Host were available if I needed anything. I will definitely be going back!!

Highly recommend ! Great for couples, friends or even a solo getaway. Was greeted with a high vibrational energy from the family, very kind and welcoming - felt right at home. Here, you can expect to enjoy the farm animals, sounds of nature and pitch dark nights perfect for star gazing. Absolutely loved it and will definitely book again. Thank y’all!!!

It was the perfect camp set up. A hill overlooking the river and nobody crowding your site. The Managers were sincere and friendly. Maria brought fresh coffee at 7 am and hung out with us. Real good people. Loved everything about it! Definitely coming back!

Our family loved the privacy, creek, pizza oven area and large stones around the firepit. The cows were so cute and the family was helpful in bringing some extra firewood for us. We definitely look forward to coming back again! There is a bit of a slope down to the creek but the rope to climb back up was especially helpful for our son.

Bethany was helpful and accommodating, especially considering the last minute nature of my booking. I was only there for a quick overnight stop, but looks like a great place when they have events. There's a barbecue food truck, restrooms, animals, playground for the kids, and a large communal fire pit area.

Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. Chose big sky or a more secluded spot. Incredible wildflowers on display in the spring. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. Low ambient light pollution at night means the stars are very bright (and so are the fireflies)! Guests are required to communicate estimated time of arrival well in advance. When arriving, make sure to meet Aaron or a designate at the red gate before entering further into the property. If tent camping, please do not bring glass containers, also you must pack out all garbage and waste. The Huber family began its legacy of farming and ranching in 1868 when Samuel Isaak Huber, an immigrant from Switzerland, settled in Cat Spring, Texas. His son, Henry, and grandson, Lawrence, followed in his footsteps. Lawrence, a pretty good horseman and roper, used his winnings to acquire more land during the depression. He and his wife, Edna Schaffner Huber, willed the land to their twin daughters, Mary and Faye. Mary and her husband, Eddie, settled on the home place in 1970. Since that time, they have continued to build a strong and vibrant beef cattle operation. Eddie and Mary cultivated beautiful fields of Coastal and Tifton. Hay from these fields provides quality nutrition to our cattle during the winter months. Mary and Eddie's daughter, Connie and her family, Aaron and Skye, moved to the home place in 2013 and soon after created Watermelon Hill as a way of honoring the animals they raise and sharing the Huber family's natural way of life. The ranch consists of open fields of hay and grazing pastures intermixed with hardwood and softwood forest. Hilly landscapes are broken with wet weather creeks and fishing ponds located around the ranch. The town of Bellville is 7 miles, Columbus is 14 miles and Brenham is a short 25 miles away. There are multiple places to dine or enjoy a local brew close as well. Don't forget that Antique Week over in Warrenton is just 25 miles away. However, none of that matters if all you want to do is be quite and enjoy some serenity. The closest highway is two miles away so if quiet is all you want we have that in abundance. Camp sites are primitive with no water or electricity.

Coushatte Recreation Ranch stands out as a unique destination in Bellville, Texas, thanks to its rich history and connection to the land once inhabited by the Coushatte Indians. Established in 1877 by the Nelius Family, the ranch began as a cotton and cattle farming operation, utilizing horses in the fields until 1948. In the 1950s, Trenckmann Nelius diversified the ranch by introducing chicken and egg production, while still raising cattle and growing maize to feed the chickens. In 1973, Trenckmann and Margie Nelius transformed their vision into reality by founding Coushatte Recreation Ranch, initially offering just 24 campsites. Over the years, the campground has expanded significantly to accommodate 225 sites, complete with full hookups for both 30 and 50 amp service. The campground's name pays homage to the Coushatte Indians, and visitors can explore an Indian Mound on the property, where numerous arrowheads have been discovered. After many years of dedicated management, Trenckmann and Margie passed the torch to their son Howard and his wife Pamela, who operated the ranch until November 2019. The campground is now under the ownership of George Jarkesy, who aims to enhance the experience for guests.

For urban campers looking to escape the high rises of Houston, Rosenberg makes a strategic choice, just a half-hour drive from downtown. The Rosenberg Historic Downtown District should be your first port of call, lined with heritage buildings, museums, and independent shopping boutiques. Once you’ve taken in the highlights, set out for the nearby Brazos Bend State Park, where bird-watching, fishing, and wildlife spotting are the main pastimes. There’s plenty of camping in the park, including primitive tent camping sites and an equestrian camp. Campers can also stay at one of the RV parks in town or along the Brazos River.

Where to go

North Houston

Lakes and woodlands fringe the northern boundaries of Houston, providing a natural playground for adventurers. Boating and fishing are the main reasons for a visit to Lake Houston, while the Lake Houston Wilderness Park has trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Camping is possible in the park as well as in Sheldon Lake State Park to the south.

Galveston Bay

Birding enthusiasts and beach lovers flock to Galveston Bay, south-east of Rosenberg. Discover the wildlife-filled wetlands of the San Bernard and Brazoria National Wildlife Refuges, or enjoy primitive camping in the Justin Hurst Wildlife Management Area. Further West, the Matagorda Peninsula has miles of sandy beaches with choppy surf and beach camping.

When to go

The most pleasant temperatures for camping in Rosenberg are spring and fall, which is the best time for hiking, birding, and other outdoor activities. Summers can be extremely hot and humid with average highs of 94°F, so leave the tent at home or head down to the Gulf Coast to cool off at the beach. Mild winter temperatures mean RV camping is enjoyable year-round.

It’s possible to reach downtown Houston via public transport, but getting to and around Rosenberg is much easier with your own transportation.
Rosenberg has a selection of shops where you can purchase groceries, camping gear, and fishing supplies. Pick up everything you need in town before heading out to Brazos Bend State Park.
