Our stay at Tent Site #2 at Boulderdash Cabin & RV Park was absolutely wonderful! Carol-anne and Lyn were amazing hosts—friendly, responsive, and super thoughtful. They provided helpful tips before our arrival and made sure we had everything we needed for a great experience. The site was peaceful and well-kept, surrounded by nature and just steps from the Medina River. Even though it was a short hike to the bathrooms, we were well-prepared thanks to their clear heads-up and suggestion to bring a tent potty—especially useful since we were camping with our child. We appreciated the attention to detail, from the check-in process to on-site items like firewood and ice. The no-visitor and quiet policies helped make the space feel safe and relaxing for families. We made some great memories here and would definitely come back again. Highly recommend for anyone looking to disconnect, relax, and enjoy the outdoors!

We absolutely loved our stay! We spent the weekend kid free celebrating our 13 year anniversary & couldn’t help but talk about how much the kids would have loved it! We loved camping out at Boulderdash! The campsites were clean and well maintained. There are amenities like freshwater, WiFi, and electricity available if you’d like, but it doesn’t feel like glamping. If you forget anything, Carol-Anne and Lyn have it handy. The riverside sites are a short walk to wading in the Medina river. The kids and dogs had a blast. Campers who come here should abide by the camp’s simple rule; don’t be a jerk. We’re looking forward to coming back as soon as possible!

Our stay at Mockingbird Farms was perfect! It was our 2 year olds first camping experience and the privacy and safety this land provided was perfect. He adored the donkeys and still can’t stop talking about them. The hosts were so generous to offer the cabin when it started raining and coffee on the cool morning. The outdoor bath also made for an extra relaxing evening. We have already made recommendations to friends and will definitely be back ourselves!

This is definitely one of the best camping spots we have been to! Access to the river was very easy, even from up the hill, and the water was absolutely perfect. The restrooms were nice and clean. We stayed in Spot 2 with our travel trailer and we were grateful that no one booked Spot 1 next to us so we had a good amount of space and privacy. There were plenty of other people there but everyone was respectful and we were pretty spread out so the noise was minimal.

I would definitely consider myself an avid outdoorsman/camper, and let me tell you that I am glad that I found this spot. This location has everything you need, restrooms, community sink, and amazing access to the river. The campgrounds are very clean, and the RV sites are perfect. Carol Ann and Lyn put their passion for camping and traveling into their property. And it shows. These people made us feel like we were family, and honestly just want you to have a great experience while you’re at Boulderdash. If I could give this place 10 stars I gladly would. Thank you all very much me and my family, Hope to see you all soon again!

Been to so many camp sites and Sparrow Bend is by far the best!! Clean amenities, spacious campsites, and the most gorgeous view. Sparrow Bend sets a high standard. It's hard to camp anywhere else without wanting to compare. It's doesn't get better, especially at such a reasonable price. Will be coming back over and over and over <3

Weekend Trip to Mockingbird Farms

Where do we start? The Boo Radley Bunkhouse was absolutely perfect — the bed was comfortable, and the space was cute, cozy, and well-equipped. The outdoor shower (with hot water!!) was great. And the path from the bunkhouse to the bathroom was easy to follow, which was a plus since we showed up late at night and had to find our way around. Cait and her merry band of misfits (engaging family, escape artist goats, and other two- and four- legged friends) kept us frequently entertained, but also gave us space to enjoy our anniversary trip undisturbed. We got lucky with the weather and got to light a campfire and look at the stars, but I don't think hearing rain on the bunkhouse's tin roof would've been too bad either. We will definitely be back!!! Highly recommend making the 45ish minute drive to Freidrich Wilderness Park as well — we saw/ heard several endangered birds, and the varied terrain (especially the Vista Loop) made for unexpectedly good hiking so close to San Antonio.

My group & I loved camping here. It was beautiful, hosts were quick to respond/helpful when needed, amenities were better than expected! Outdoor showers/sink/bathrooms were nice. The space was also bigger than we expected. Only thing I'd recommend is to bring some ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. The dogs in the neighborhood would bark occasionally in the night/early AM and any sounds echo from the river canyon. It wasn't a deal-breaker but ear plugs made all the difference in sleep quality. Also, even though the river was low, the water was refreshing/clean & we were able to swim plenty (perfect for floats/paddleboards). Overall, a wonderful experience & we look forward to coming back!

Welcome to the Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve! Just 22 miles from downtown San Antonio, not far off of US 281, our educational homestead is an excellent place to camp. We’ve transformed 45 acres of what was once an active rock quarry just 15 years ago, into a healthy, regenerative, green space as well as an event and training venue. Our venue is nestled in the middle of the rapidly growing suburban landscape around us in north San Antonio. We purchased the property five years ago from good friends who had already started the mission of revitalizing the land. Today, 39 of the acres are in “preservation” status, which means that we are letting the natural micro-ecosystems that have developed from what remained of the quarrying activities 15 years ago to develop on their own. We hope to always keep this acreage in that status for generations to enjoy. The remaining 6 acres is wooded, where we live, have gardens, farm animals and where we interface equitably with our environment. Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree / plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens). Refresh by taking a dip in the above ground pool, or wash off in the outdoor cob shower. [Please be advised that besides campers, we also host homesteading, wilderness survival and herbal medicine classes on our site. Everfree Shire Ranch is an 11 acre estate nestled between quiet country houses and a very active horse ranch next door to the east. Rescue horses are also kept on the property in rotation. Much of the camping here is still a work in progress! So for now, a very private economical choice for campers! The central building has indoor lodging available and the side bathroom with indoor toilet / washer / dryer may be used by campers as well. A new outdoor shower is 95% complete and usable but swimwear is required because we have not finished filling in the slots between the wood fence panels. The RV Dump station is also ready for use as well as the new outhouse! If you forgot to dump on the way out or need to before arriving, please use the free dump stations on I-35 near Natalia on either side of the highway.

Mockingbird Farms

Heavily wooded acreage with goats, horses and donkeys. There is no light pollution and if there are no clouds you can see the stars very clearly. We have a ton of wild birds. Owls and Cara Cara are common. There are deer, feral hog and two resident packs of coyote. We also have ring tail cats, which are nocturnal and rare. The best seasons are October 1st thru the end of April. It gets VERY hot and dry in the summer and can just be miserable. We have a shared bathroom and an outdoor shower and tub. If you are a single woman or a family with children, we don't take other bookings while you are visiting the farm. You will have the place to yourselves. The only exception being my family and I, if we are working or staying over at the farm. We should have a second bunkhouse up and running by fall of 2025. If you are tent camping, you may camp anywhere on the property but there are certain spaces that may make curious horses your roomies.
