Weekend Trip to Al's Hideaway Escape to the Country

We were met by Al himself and given a tour of the land and then upgraded to a better spot complete with a phantastic Merry Prankster inspired bus to hang out in! Had to leave a night early but will 10/10 return!

1 night at Lost Woods

Not much to say, we pulled in late and left early. Probably could have parked on the side of the road, but I hate getting woken up and having to move. James the host was responsive and helpful. The place looked pretty killer for a nice getaway. It's not a typical campground, it's private land with outhouses and sites with firepits. Very reminiscent of a Baja situation. Host says he locks the gate at night but I couldn't confirm. Overall I'd recommend

This was our second time out there and we brought some friends. Everyone was amazed with the landscape and night time views. Warren and his family came by the camp to chat and were extremely hospitable. We are already talking about a 3rd trip before the Texas heat really kicks in. This is an overlanders dream come true.

Weekend Trip to Lost Woods

We stayed twice this season so far and it's honestly a fast favorite! We have a small 16' teardrop that fits perfectly for use at sites 1, 2, 3, 6, & 8. Our 1st trip was with some friends, their kids and our dogs at sites 6, 7, & 8 at the recommendation of the owner. Perfect to sit at the shaded campfire space @ 8 with space for everyone's tent! The 2nd trip was for a family birthday camping with some dogs as well @ site 1 - which was adjusted to site 2 to be further from the entrance road. James is always very responsive and easy to communicate with for anything! Notes for potential campers: - IT IS JUST THE WOODS...in the suburbs. There is the convenience of access to stores if you forgot something but once you are on site, there is 1 port-a-potty (cleaned 1/wk?) that is within a 5-10 minute walk from any site. No water connections & no electricity. Great "tester" for introducing people to camping b/c of the safety net of being so close to civilization. - Most sites VERY well shaded. If you are in site 1 or 2 I recommend bringing a canopy because the sites are cleared pretty well. - Road is very accessible but it is a dirt/rock road. More uneven and larger rock than gravel. - Sites 4-8 have the least road noise, with the lowest road noise being at 8. - Carpool for groups as much as possible. Parking (except at 1, 3, or 8) limited. - 8+ppl tents: Sites 1-4 & 8 have space for at least 2 tents; site 6 (maybe 5?) for 1 tent; sites 5 & 7 poss. but tight - Very walkable!

2 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat

Me and my buddy camped out in a tent on the land. For starters I’ve never seen so many deer in one place. We pulled up after dark our second night and was greeted by at least 50 deer such a beautiful sight. Adventured up the creek bare foot and enjoyed the sparrows dancing in the sky. Secure location, clean restrooms, and the outdoor showers were and amazing experience (wash yourself fast lol) the hot water doesn’t last very long when it’s a little colder outside but I’m sure in the summer weather the shower is amazing. I will be booking again in the future.

This place is beautiful and the owners are very kind it had everything we needed a/c restrooms and nice showers, charging stations came in handy sense we stayed 4 days! The river is so clear and beautiful my girlfriend found so many pretty rocks around. The hills in the back ground was a refreshing view to wake Up with, so many deer running around I had so much fun

Our group really enjoyed our experience at the Lost Woods Campground. We stayed at site 6 which was super convenient for us since it allowed us to back our vehicle right up to the camp spot.

2 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat

This place is a hidden gem! I almost don’t want to let the secret out but the hosts are awesome and the grounds are amazing! You get more than you expect and the campsites are so huge! The pictures don’t do this place justice. Sparrow bend will be our getaway spot. Had to leave early but were sad to go. We will definitely be back! Thank you Angela!

3 nights at Sparrow Bend River Retreat

We had a great time :) We loved that you can rent tubes and stuff which provided for something for us to do. The spot is beautiful and the water is just a quick walk away. We had a rough go during our stay though, with our neighbors in a cabin not abiding by the quiet time of 10pm, so we did not sleep. The 2nd night of our stay, there was a LOUD fight, loaded with profanity in the middle of the night coming from the same cabin. They also left their string lights on the entire night which beamed right into our camper windows :) We were able to commiserate with our RV neighbors (haha) who were kept up as well. There were also lots of dogs barking and howling nearby. I was surprised with how small our parking area was, and how close it is to the cabin. In addition, when we arrived someone from the cabin was parked very close to our RV space, infringing on our zone quite a bit until they moved the car. This spot may be better for the cabins & less so for campers in tents and Rv's.

Lost Woods seemed far away from the city but in actuality you could run to a store to pick up something you forgot in 10 mins. Sites were far enough away from each other that you felt like you were the only one out there for miles! It was great and my best friend and I loved it there!! We did visit during a burn ban due to the winds and couldn't have a campfire but that was ok. It was so relaxing and we had camp stoves so we just heated up food that way and sat around and talked and listened to music ... 3 days of relaxation.. doesn't get better than that! I did read reviews about road noise... Yes there is a little bit during the day but nothing major... We actually didn't even notice it. Just a reminder as we saw some campers unprepared, even though it's stated through out their website,... Bring water .. For hand washing, drinking, bathing, Coffee... Etc. We had a portable shower, potty and a portable stove with a coffee pot.... And we filled our empty gallon water containers with faucet water from our house and used that for washing, etc... Just bought a couple gallons for drinking.....we could have stayed out there for a month ..... Lol. Just be prepared.... It's just the woods.... And awesome! Thank you James for a wonderful 3 days!!! We will definitely visit again!!

5 nights at Al's Hideaway Escape to the Country

Perfect stay. The pavilion; with kitchen, pool table, tv and showers/ restrooms was a game changer. Owners were amazing, thank you to Gordon, Jennifer and Samantha for make us feel so comfortable. The location is just far enough away from some great exploring. We will be back.

We loved the Haby Ranch. This was our second time staying here. Back during the eclipse and during spring break this year and although is a drive for us coming from Houston, but the drive is worth it. The land is so beautiful and peaceful, the BEST part is being able to bring out Dogs and let them roam all over the terrain, the first time it was a group of 11 people and 5 dogs, I can honestly say our dogs had the time of their life. Warren is such a great host and always greed us and let us know what all the things we can do in the land. The stars at night are breathtaking and the sun sets are so peaceful. Will definitely recommend this place.

Just like the title says. The weekend was perfect and so were the views. 1100 acres offers a lot of room for wandering with plenty of dirt roads to get your tires dirty and space to stretch your legs. No RV hookups, but there is an Rv dump station right outside of Bandera. So be prepared to boondock or tent camp. The only neighbors we had were the co s and the frogs from the nearby creek. This is an overland adventure you don’t want to pass up.

A network of trails criss-cross the creek and wind throughout the property under a peaceful canopy of large beautiful trees. Don't be surprised if you run into deer, squirrels, or roadrunners! Our property is home to a wide variety of hill-country wildlife. - Each of our campsites are private and surrounded by forest. - Each site has a fire ring for campfires - Our trees are our most precious natural resource and set this campground apart! Please don't do anything to harm them. - Port-o-john is available on site. - All of our campsites are primitive. No electric or water here. - When you camp with us you are welcome to explore and play on the entire property! We have 55 acres of trails and woods to explore! Please bring your bikes, trail shoes, or whatever helps you have fun in the wild! - Hammocks welcome! We have so many trees! All of our sites are hammock-friendly. - When you check-in, just text us, your host will help you find your campsite. - Some sites are drive-in where your vehicle can park right next to the fire. Others are walk-in and require a short hike of 100' or less from your parking space. You can indicate your preference during booking or at check-in. If you want to drive right into your site, Campsites 2, 3, 6, and 12 are the sites you want. There is no way to drive to it or even get close except on foot. But it is spectacular and beautiful! Only three sites can accommodate a smaller trailer or camper. Site 1, Site 2, and site 6. Please notify me in your booking if you intend to bring a camper and I can accommodate you. We practice leave-no-trace as much as possible. So please pack out anything you pack in. You are responsible for removing all trash. If any garbage is left behind in your site you will be billed for the cleanup. We have a dumpster located near the front gate. Please use it and put all your trash in there. Heads-up! We have a small farm on the property. Dogs are always welcome and we LOVE our furry friends! For their safety and the safety of our livestock please keep them leashed while on property.
