. These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers.
The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so.
Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds.
Campfires are permitted.
There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one.
Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently

What a perfect spot! We stayed 3 nights in Site 9 and had a blast. We used the ranch as a base camp and visited some of the nearby state parks during spring break. The property is quiet and the stars are bright at night! There’s plenty of room for kids to run and play and be kids.

This spot has a lot of different options: clamping tents, RV spots, cabins, and primitive camping. Primitive spots are very secluded and tucked far away from the main area. We came on a slow week and the peace and quiet was awesome. Good bathrooms, and a cool common cook area in case you forgot something or want to wash dishes. Not too far to walk from primitive sites. Host was very responsive and helped us upgrade when the weather forecast looked bad.

The weather unfortunately was all over the place the weekend we stayed but Billy made sure we were safe and let us know of any major weather updates in the forecast. Primitive camping with glamping amenities?! Yes, please! We loved sleeping outside under the stars away from it all, and we also loved how convenient the communal kitchen and bathhouse (with hot water) were. Though the description mentions that you have to park away from the sites and walk in, the "trail" leading to the campsites is actually very driveable and we were able to drive up to and park at our site making it very convenient. Overall, it was very private. However, that seems to be because site J wasn't booked at the same time we were there. If site J had campers, I wouldn't book site I again as that would be too close for comfort for us, but if it was open, we'd book this site in a heartbeat!

I loved this place. Everything is as advertised. It's right on the river, and it was easy to drag my kayak in and out of the water. I didn't see another soul after meeting Billy and settling in, which is just how I like it. At night I could see tons of stars. I saw fish in the river, including one huge white one that kept slowly swimming back and forth near the bank, mocking me because I'm currently not a great fisherman. I recommend this place, and I'll definitely be back.

Private primitive camping spot. You are able to park your car close. Shaded. Woke up to turkeys gobbling a couple mornings and my last morning there were cows crazing on the pasture property next to this campsite! :)
The shared kitchen was nice, and if you need to boil water to make food, note it took quite a long time for the pot of water to boil, so take that into consideration for any foods you may want to cook on the double burner.
Loved the private bathrooms. They are “outside”/open air- meaning there is no ceiling, but there is the large roof that covers the entire area. There’s also a fan for hot weather and a heater for cool weather to help make the space more comfortable.
I would definitely camp here again as it was a good location to access Pedernales Falls SP and other local hiking spots/state parks.

We loved Primitive I- it was very secluded and away from the other campers! The water spigot isn’t at the site, but instead, up at the community area. The bathroom and showers were also clean, but it was near the entrance, away from the camp site. We would camp here again!

Where to go
Guadalupe River
Some of the best campgrounds and RV parks in the region sit along the banks of the Guadalupe River. In summer, Texans flock here for a relaxing float in the sun. The river also provides year-round opportunities for fly fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Campers will find a bit of everything, from glamping tents and full hook-up RV sites to secluded tent sites right on the water.
Comal River
The cool, spring-fed waters of the Comal River—among the shortest boatable waterways in the country—come from the Edwards Aquifer right in New Braunfels. Another popular floating river, the Comal attracts visitors with its calmer waters, shorter float time, and one epic tube chute. Camp along the water within walking distance of historic downtown New Braunfels.
Canyon Lake
Follow the Guadalupe River north and you’ll reach Canyon Lake, nicknamed the Hill Country Coast. Numerous campgrounds and RV parks line the 80 miles of shoreline. Head to one of eight parks along the lakeshore for swimming, boating, picnicking and camping.
When to go
The cool waters of the Comal and Guadalupe rivers make New Braunfels particularly popular during the hot summer months. It’s well worth visiting during this busy season for the river tubing, but be sure to book your campsite well in advance. To beat the crowds, plan a trip just before Memorial Day Weekend or just after Labor Day Weekend.
Know before you go
- Many campsites offer river tube rentals, as well as shuttle services to bring you back after your float.
- Texas summers can get hot and humid, so remember to drink plenty of water to replenish lost fluids.
- Disposable containers are not permitted on either the Guadalupe or Comal. Transfer your beverages and snacks to reusable water bottles and food containers before your float trip.
