We have secluded camping available. Primitive tent camping, or if you want to go glamping you can bring an RV with a generator and be even more secluded but still have the comfortable amenities of an RV.

Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

The Spartan Aircraft Company was an American aircraft manufacturing company, headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Previously known as Mid-Continent Aircraft Company, the company had been reorganized under the Spartan name in 1928 by oil baron William G. Skelly — and operated until 1961, manufacturing aircraft, aircraft components, and recreational vehicle trailers. The company was known for the luxurious Spartan Executive aircraft produced in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
J. Paul Getty acquired the company from Skelly in 1935. After World War II, Getty ended aircraft production and converted the company to manufacturing travel trailers under the Spartan brand using similar building techniques and materials. The Spartan trailer was known as the “Cadillac of Trailers”, with gleaming birch interiors, an all aluminum skin and an art deco theme.
At the time the Spartans were produced, they retailed for $4000 or more with additional features, which was a large sum of money considering at the time you could buy a house for $8000. The Imperial Mansion was one of the largest offered by Spartan. This particular Mansion was gutted to the frame and overhauled in 2015.

Get into low gear and enjoy the slow pace and peace of our little working farm on the edge of the hill country. Low Gear Farmstead's 75 acres border the lovely San Saba River, providing campers the opportunity to swim, wade, fish and paddle. Farm animals including dairy goats, chickens, and horses inhabit the property, but wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, ringtail, fox and armadillo is also abundant. Bird watchers will be delighted at the diversity of birds, especially in spring. Don't forget to look up at night as our dark skies provide excellent stargazing on clear nights and a very visible Milky Way. We limit the number of campsites and spread them out so that campers may enjoy privacy and seclusion. Campsites are provided with compost toilets and most sites also have a fire ring. 4WD is not required unless we have had heavy rains, otherwise most vehicles, except very low clearance ones, do fine. The nearest town, Menard, is about a 12 minute drive from the property and has a grocery store, gas stations, a couple restaurants, a pub and a bakery. Lovers of history might enjoy visiting the Presidio de San Saba, about 20 minutes from the farm, as well as the historic Pioneers Rest Cemetery in town. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming space for queers and POC.

Info about The Spartan:
The Spartan Aircraft Company was an American aircraft manufacturing company, headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Previously known as Mid-Continent Aircraft Company, the company had been reorganized under the Spartan name in 1928 by oil baron William G. Skelly — and operated until 1961, manufacturing aircraft, aircraft components, and recreational vehicle trailers. The company was known for the luxurious Spartan Executive aircraft produced in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
J. Paul Getty acquired the company from Skelly in 1935. After World War II, Getty ended aircraft production and converted the company to manufacturing travel trailers under the Spartan brand using similar building techniques and materials. The Spartan trailer was known as the “Cadillac of Trailers”, with gleaming birch interiors, an all aluminum skin and an art deco theme.
At the time the Spartans were produced, they retailed for $4000 or more with additional features, which was a large sum of money considering at the time you could buy a house for $8000. The Imperial Mansion was one of the largest offered by Spartan. This particular Mansion was gutted to the frame and overhauled in 2015.

Beautiful secluded camping sites, close to Fredericksburg. Angela was very kind and helpful. The only downside was that the porta potty was a pretty far walk from our tent site, not bad during the day but kind of a pain late at night. We enjoyed everything overall and would come back again!

The pull through slots were long enough for our full setup and car. Electricity, water and sewer all worked fine. Had good enough cell service for our hotspot. Getting in and out was easy and the gate is nice and wide. Got to see the deers which are on the property. The issues are the pull through slots are very narrow and close together. Our stairs almost were into the neighboring site. Also, there is one quiet "permanent" rig two sites over which needs a bit of repair and makes things look like this wouldn't be a good spot to stay. This is a great place for an overnight stop.

I loved this cabin. The view of the river from the patio was amazing and the jacuzzi, you could look up at all of the stars. The kitchen is nice. They have a very nice toaster oven, bbq grill, but no stove top (just a heads up)! The cabin was very clean. The location is perfect. It is very close to Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock! My dog even got to join in on the adventure.
