Camping near Martindale with climbing

No frills car camping, highly recommended! John’s land is beautiful and has many sites to choose from with flat places for tents, fire ring, tables and chairs. John is friendly and so are his dogs. He’s done a lot of DIY projects like an outdoor shower, bucket flush toilet, disc golf holes (bring your own discs) and has a few campers, a dump truck and other equipment on site that might not feel like pure nature but it didn’t bother me. If you want a true “pristine natural area” look elsewhere but for weekend car campers it’s a great place. Firewood available on site. 15 mins from downtown.

Super shady with trees and easy access to the Vineyard. Was a very clean area.

We rent camped here for two nights, it was in a great location. The only con is that there are 0 picknick tables around the camp sites.

2 nights at Camping near Hamilton Pool

Great amount of land on a beautiful winery. Perfect for just a couple people or a whole family. We enjoyed it a lot! Having the bathrooms nearby was really nice as well.

Sheri & Johnny are really nice and welcoming. Their campsites are great and easy to access, and such a short drive to so many things.

John was an amazing host and a great guy! This was my first time solo camping as a college student and he went above and beyond with making me feel welcomed on his beautiful property. From the extensive care he puts into this place to his friendly demeanor he was one of the best hosts I’ve ever had ! All the sites he offered were well maintained and you could tell he truly cared for preserving the nature here. He went as far as to check on me here in there while also giving me space to be secluded in my own little world of nature. Also only being 15 mins away from the city of San Marcos was a definite plus. I can’t write everything good I wanna say but not one negative or complaint from my side everything about this place is amazing!

Sheri and John were awesome! They for sure have a great property they allow everyone to enjoy! We will be back!

John had great communication throughout the entire process. Easy access and comfortable site. Will use this campsite again.

3 nights at Twisted Oaks...

Stayed here on multiple occasions and had a great time, every time. Each campsite is the perfect distance from one other- you won't see much of fellow campers, but you may hear a stray laugh from another campfire every so often. Dogs are welcome, and love the scenery. Each site is thoughtfully set up to include tables, a fire pit, and a grill ready for charcoal among other amenities. Sheri and Johnnie are awesome hosts and kind people. Can't recommend enough.

We had such a great stay! John was extremely helpful during our time on this beautiful property, and so were his two sweet dogs who came to say hello! Such a peaceful and quiet spot to spend a long weekend at. Highly recommend staying here! Thank you so much John!

Absolutely amazing campsite! Directions were perfect, land was excellent to camp on. Bathrooms were nice and it was so great to have a sink. The wine tasting was fantastic!

4 nights at Urban Garden Oasis with Hot Tub

Had a really nice overnight camp. Bought the discounted wine flight through the Hipcamp checkout and it was a good value. The pizza was fresh and tasty as well. The winery’s owner was super accommodating and helpful with our stay. While my friend and I stayed in the Shady Oak Grove, there was a large group of families in the other camping area. It was spread out enough that their happy noises did not bother us at all. The bathrooms were clean and in good operating condition. It is a little walk through the grape vines to get to them, but also a 1 minute drive, if you’re not able to walk it.

We had the best time. Two adults (one over six feet tall) fit in here just fine. The bed was very comfortable, with lots of pillow preference options. The outdoor shower was stellar, with really nice shampoo and body wash products. The hot tub was awesome. Snacks and caffeinated beverages and water provided. All in all, a top stay.

This is an excellent car camping style experience. We threw in the truck… a hammock and stand, a folding table and a tent, coffee basics, pocket rocket and some firewood. Getting there with some time to relax at the Tasting Room before it closes at 6pm will absolutely elevate your experience. We were so impressed with many things, so here’s a list: The wine, The location, The potties! The PIZZA 🤯 The owners homemade love brownies The camping sites and animals 🐮 The fire pit The Stars The friendly faces What can I say.. it’s a vibe ✨ Hope you find as much peace and comfort as we did on our quick Star gazer get away!
