We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes.  Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. Living in an area that was once subdivided to provide camp sites for people coming to enjoy Medina lake, it only seems right to make our land available for people to do just that. Enjoy. The trees offer shade and draw in nature, while the surrounding Texas Hill country and nearby Medina Lake offer plenty of additional sights and opportunities to explore.

My extended family was a large group and we had the place to ourselves. We had a great time exploring along the river and wandering through the prickly pear forest. Our dogs loved being able to run free. There happened to be no mosquitoes which made sleeping in the hammock perfect.

The treehouse is absolutely beautiful, it has so much charm. The view from the top is just as stunning as you would imagine and all af the levels of the treehouse are well thought out and maintained. My only complaint is that we didn't have the time to stay another night. They are not lying about the driveway. It is rough but just adds to the secluded nature of the retreat. Can't wait to come back and would recommend anyone to come experience it.

Really nice campsite. Clean and easy accessibility to the river. The river crossing was closed and there was no mention of that during booking. It was a bit concerning when we reached the passing and had no cell signal. We had to walk in the river and realize it was ankle deep and passed along side the closed bridge with the car and drove through the river water. Would recommend. Lots of fun and nice to relax in the river.

We were met by Al himself and given a tour of the land and then upgraded to a better spot complete with a phantastic Merry Prankster inspired bus to hang out in! Had to leave a night early but will 10/10 return!
