Not really a ‘HipCamp’, or what we look for in a ‘HipCamp’ (small, off the beaten track, private owner) but Oak Forrest is an excellent, modern, well maintained, full service RV (and mini-home) Park. We stayed here at short notice, another HipCamp provider let us down, and booked in a rush (with little research) as we were visiting Austin for the ACL Music Festival. We spent very little time indeed actually at the RV Park but couldn’t fault it in anyway. While not ‘cheap’ we thought it good value. So, if we were visiting Austin and wanted this type of up-scale RV Park experience, we would certainly use it again. Of its type, I’d consider it excellent.

Stayed here for 1 night, it’s just what I needed while I was in town. Parked my truck on the flattest part I could find by the pond and set up camp and enjoyed the view of the night sky. Some horses were roaming at night but never approached, along with a pretty good amount of sheep in the morning. Expected, and it never smelled bad, so I didn’t mind. Cool spot, I’d come back again.

Amazing hosts and beautiful property! Lots of horses and soft grass. Went fishing at the lake nearby a caught some lovely blue gills, perches and a bass! Went horseback riding as well and BA was sweet and well mannered! The hosts stopped by to greet us upon arrival and checked in with us throughout our stay. Great trip, will be going again!

Gerard’s property was great, my dog and I arrived just before sunset, had dinner and walked around the property a little bit and then settled in and relaxed. Decided to not set up a tent and SUV camped (cleared it with Gerard first). Easy in, called and Tony let us in gate (super nice and helpful), showed us spots to pick to camp at. There’s a combination lock on gate so they give you a code and you can get in and out as often as you need (you are not locked in/stuck as a few others commented, and it’s nice having that outside gate locked so random people don’t wander on the property). My dog loved it and was super relaxed. The only strange thing (nothing to do with Gerard’s camp sites) but a couple literally set their camp site up as close as you can get to the porta potty that 3-4 camp sites use. I don’t know, it was really weird to me why they would want to be basically on top of it, but to each their own. I would stay here again, maybe choose a different area if they are still camped at that porta potty…Gerard has over 300 acres. Oh last note…you will see planes departing because the airport isn’t super far away but it didn’t bother us, we had to shut the SUV because it was cold outside, and put on some music and didn’t hear any plane noise. And this morning we did see a horse roaming on the property close by right before we left.

I fell in love with this Farm. I’ve never experienced so much peace, beauty and solitude in 30 years as I did here! Definitely a diamond in the rough! The owner and employees are so kind and helpful! The animals are so curious and beautiful, you’re seeing the Austin skyline in the background and there’s endless spots to set up camp. I’ll definitely be coming back soon! I wish I could live there forever!

There are wildflowers all over the property; especially in the spring time. We have seen deer grazing on the property and some travelers have found fossils and arrowheads (no guarantees of course). . These are unique camping spots along the Guadalupe River. I didn’t exactly understand how unique until I started getting feedback from my campers. The surrounding scenery will lower your blood pressure and do wonders to let you reconnect with nature. Sit back and close your eyes late in the evening and listen to all the wildlife talking to each other. There is faint traffic noise from 90A about a 1/3 of a mile away but it calms down after 7 or so. Currently no amenities but I am in the plans for some portable bathrooms. Please be prepared to cover all your bathroom and cooking needs. I do have some good clean well water from a faucet on the way into the campgrounds. Campfires are permitted. There is a convenience store (Diamond A) with clean bathrooms and a great bbq just 5 miles to the west on 90A and a Walmart and HEB 10 miles to the east on 90A. (Both Diamond A and Walmart sell fishing licenses if you need one. Dogs are allowed at sites 3 and 4 but not at 1 or 2 where my livestock guardian dogs have access to. No matter the size or temperament of your pets you are always expected to have them under your control at ALL times. I have very small livestock in the area frequently I am almost always on the property and try to have my phone with me while campers are on site, just let me know what you need and I will do what I can to accommodate you.
