The lake was intended to serve primarily as a reservoir for the city of San Antonio, but it had the secondary effect of transforming the economy of Comal County. Even before the lake was filled, construction had begun on dozens of new subdivisions along the 60-mile lakefront and in the hills around it. By the mid-1980s, more than 80 new neighborhoods had been built, and the little ranching communities of Sattler and Startzville had become thriving commercial centers serving tourists from nearby Austin and San Antonio. Weekend Trip to ZTX Ranch

The property is nicely gated and very quiet. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. We tent camped right infront of the tubing exit under trees. We easily could load our paddles boards in the river which was great for our dogs as well. You could pick any spot you’d like to camp along the river which was nice. I’d highly recommend!

4 nights at Oak Forest RV Resort

Not really a ‘HipCamp’, or what we look for in a ‘HipCamp’ (small, off the beaten track, private owner) but Oak Forrest is an excellent, modern, well maintained, full service RV (and mini-home) Park. We stayed here at short notice, another HipCamp provider let us down, and booked in a rush (with little research) as we were visiting Austin for the ACL Music Festival. We spent very little time indeed actually at the RV Park but couldn’t fault it in anyway. While not ‘cheap’ we thought it good value. So, if we were visiting Austin and wanted this type of up-scale RV Park experience, we would certainly use it again. Of its type, I’d consider it excellent.

We had such a fun and relaxing time with the family! The pool was a big hit, and the location made it easy to explore downtown. The amenities were great reliable Wi-Fi, a dog washing station, propane refill, and even a gym for a quick workout. We'll definitely be coming back with the family and our pups they absolutely loved the dog station!

Weekend Trip to Lavender Sound Homestead

the view 1 direction was beautiful, wildflowers, prickly pear, cedars and the like , but you have to camp right next to 2 campers that are rented out. It was too close for my comfort, even though there was a very nice young man living in one, and he left so there was privacy but the ambience wasn’t as nice as it could have been. The other challenge was the outlet was for a 50 amp plug only, I needed a regular plug. he did later direct us to an electric pole that he said he thought had a regular plug at it, but it was too far from the camper pad for our cord.
