The trail head is accessed by a dirt road that winds around our corn field and into the woods, and can be accessed by any vehicle in normal weather conditions. We will provide warning/refunds if the river road becomes 4x4 only. Fishing is allowed with a valid Texas fishing license. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. Currently, we are only offering semi-primitive camping spots - we have electricity, Wi-Fi, and a porta-potty for our guests to use, but no running water or showers. There is an 8ft. diameter communal firepit with firewood that can be used as long as there isn't a burn ban in effect. There are designated parking spaces on the property and from there, it’s just a short walk to the camping areas. You will need to bring any and all gear needed for camping, as we are only offering camping spaces. No glass bottles or containers of any kind and no generators. While there isn’t much to do inside Dickburg, other than exploring the land, stargazing around the firepit, and generally just vibing with Mother Nature, there are plenty of things to do nearby. We are only 15 minutes from Sherwood Forest Faire (only open during the weekends of March and April & a few other days during the year), 18 minutes from Bastrop State Park if you want to fish, swim, or hike, 25 minutes from Downtown Bastrop, and 30 minutes from the Dinosaur Park, the Capital of Texas Zoo, McKinney Roughs and Zip Lost Pines! Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash. Please be sure to clean up any messes your pet makes. Dickburg embraces a ‘Leave No Trace’ camping style, meaning, whatever items you bring with you, please take with you when you leave, including trash, items to be recycled, and pet waste. Please keep in mind that, while it may feel like you’re hundreds of miles from civilization, we do have neighbors on both sides of us and behind us. Three out of four sides of Dickburg have a regular fence while the fourth (north side) has a natural barrier of piled brush. Please do not cross into our neighbor’s property or allow your kiddos/animals to wander unsupervised. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 8 am. Other Things to Note: We have done countless hours of work to get Dickburg ready for you to enjoy. With that being said, it’s still raw land out in the country. There will be critters - snakes, lizards, bugs, etc. This was their land first and we’re just grateful we get to share it with them. Please use common sense when exploring the land and do not handle any wildlife. There is absolutely NO hunting or killing of any wildlife while at Dickburg. The ONLY exception to this rule is mosquitoes. You'll definitely want to bring bug spray, bug zappers, citronella candles, etc.... and kill as many of those blood-sucking jerks as possible! Do not be surprised if you hear gunshots during your stay. There is a shooting range just down the street. We mention this, not to scare you, but to make you aware so that you’re not scared when you do hear them. #countrylife String lights have been installed around Site #2. This is not only to light your way after the sun sets but also to set a boundary of where not to venture after dark. Please stay within the lighted area. The lights can be plugged in and unplugged at the electrical pole, near the RV (yellow extension cord). Dickburg is a very new camping area and is still a work in progress. After clearing the land, the land was left with exposed roots and tree stumps. For the safety of our guests, please be sure to have a light source with you when walking around at night. We are working to get roots and stumps removed, but it will take some time. We may or may not be onsite during your stay as we are continually working to improve the space for our guests. Feel free to come and say hi if you see us out and about. Or don’t! It’s completely up to you if you feel like being social or not! Welcome to Magickal Dickburg! This gorgeous 5-acre secluded piece of paradise is located between Bastrop and Paige, Texas. Dickburg is perfect for anyone wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and be fully embraced by nature. You will find yourself surrounded by dozens of beautiful Loblolly Pines, Junipers, and a variety of Oak trees. On a clear night, you’ll be able to look up and see all the stars over Texas! Currently, we are only offering semi-primitive camping spots - we have electricity, Wi-Fi, and a porta-potty for our guests to use, but no running water or showers. There is an 8ft. diameter communal firepit with firewood that can be used as long as there isn't a burn ban in effect. There are designated parking spaces on the property and from there, it’s just a short walk to the camping areas. You will need to bring any and all gear needed for camping, as we are only offering camping spaces. No glass bottles or containers of any kind and no generators. While there isn’t much to do inside Dickburg, other than exploring the land, stargazing around the firepit, and generally just vibing with Mother Nature, there are plenty of things to do nearby. We are only 15 minutes from Sherwood Forest Faire (only open during the weekends of March and April & a few other days during the year), 18 minutes from Bastrop State Park if you want to fish, swim, or hike, 25 minutes from Downtown Bastrop, and 30 minutes from the Dinosaur Park, the Capital of Texas Zoo, McKinney Roughs and Zip Lost Pines! Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash. Please be sure to clean up any messes your pet makes. Dickburg embraces a ‘Leave No Trace’ camping style, meaning, whatever items you bring with you, please take with you when you leave, including trash, items to be recycled, and pet waste. Please keep in mind that, while it may feel like you’re hundreds of miles from civilization, we do have neighbors on both sides of us and behind us. Three out of four sides of Dickburg have a regular fence while the fourth (north side) has a natural barrier of piled brush. Please do not cross into our neighbor’s property or allow your kiddos/animals to wander unsupervised. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 8 am. Other Things to Note: We have done countless hours of work to get Dickburg ready for you to enjoy. With that being said, it’s still raw land out in the country. There will be critters - snakes, lizards, bugs, etc. This was their land first and we’re just grateful we get to share it with them. Please use common sense when exploring the land and do not handle any wildlife. There is absolutely NO hunting or killing of any wildlife while at Dickburg. The ONLY exception to this rule is mosquitoes. You'll definitely want to bring bug spray, bug zappers, citronella candles, etc.... and kill as many of those blood-sucking jerks as possible! Do not be surprised if you hear gunshots during your stay. There is a shooting range just down the street. We mention this, not to scare you, but to make you aware so that you’re not scared when you do hear them. #countrylife String lights have been installed around Site #2. This is not only to light your way after the sun sets but also to set a boundary of where not to venture after dark. Please stay within the lighted area. The lights can be plugged in and unplugged at the electrical pole, near the RV (yellow extension cord). Dickburg is a very new camping area and is still a work in progress. After clearing the land, the land was left with exposed roots and tree stumps. For the safety of our guests, please be sure to have a light source with you when walking around at night. We are working to get roots and stumps removed, but it will take some time. We may or may not be onsite during your stay as we are continually working to improve the space for our guests. Feel free to come and say hi if you see us out and about. Or don’t! It’s completely up to you if you feel like being social or not! Big beautiful campsite right along the Colorado river gorgeous view. Super cute bath house with two showers one toilet there’s towels , shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available. There’s a separate dishwashing station on the left side of the bathhouse. The host was extremely nice very responsive. She’s on the ground so if you ever need anything, she’s there to help. We’ll definitely return!

The site was big with a beautiful view of the river and well equipped with a fire pit, picnic table and even a hammock. Bathroom and showers were nice and clean and stocked with amenities like towels, bath rugs and even shampoo and body wash. There is a dish washing station on the side of the bathhouse that was very convenient and appreciated. Bridget was very friendly and helpful and she responded immediately to any questions. I would recommend staying here 100%

I kinda really don’t even want to leave a review because I don’t want the secret getting out. But this camp site is just amazing if you know what you’re getting into! It’s rustic, bring your own table and water rustic. But for that “downside” you get so many upsides. The quiet, ooooh the quiet. The stars and the quiet make you forget you’re only 30 minutes from home. The hosts are amazing, friendly, and on top of everything on the facility. As an example, there was a shortage of tp in one of the bathrooms, no big deal, I keep tp in the truck for this reason. But next time I went in (next morning) it was stocked! It’s the little things in that really and truly make this place incredible.

Craig was a fantastic host, and his assistant Matt was so kind and helpful! We really enjoyed the property, it was breathtaking with all the pine trees around! The fact that my dog was allowed to roam and explore really took the stress of keeping her leashed off me so I could finally relax as well….probably the best thing about the trip! We had a great time here! Sites were large enough to accommodate 2 vehicles and a tent, plus 3 dogs. Bathrooms at the front were clean, plus a hose nearby for non potable water. We had fire wood delivered to our site a couple of times and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to McDonald Farm on the River

My friends and I had such a lovely time at the McDonald farm. The hosts were incredibly kind and communicative, and even gifted us spiced pecans from their land, which were delicious. Being around the farm animals was such a treat (we even got to meet two day-old baby piglets!), and the swimming area was sooo refreshing and calming. A couple things to be mindful of: the property is quite close to a busy road, so you can hear some traffic noise. It didn’t ruin our experience, but it is helpful to know if you’re looking for total quiet. There is also no table at the campsites (that we knew of), so definitely bring one. The kitchen and coffee area were not available during our stay, though it seems like it may be opening soon. Overall, we had a wonderful time and there is so much to love about this charming farm. Btw - make sure to stop at the farm stand...the whole chicken and mulberry syrup were DELICIOUS! Thanks so much :)
