Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. The land has been mainly used by ranchers. It is a simple small getaway. Kirtley used to be a thriving city but once they took the post office away, they attached it to Smithville. Luckily, it hasn't lost its quaint nature. There is a stretch of river property that is normally inaccessible to the general public, but you can access it here where it still lives in its pristine nature. If you look for it you can also find a lot of petrified wood. Learn more about this land:This listing is best for people who want to fish, kayak or Canoe on the river. Please read all this information to the bottom of the page. Note that this is primitive camping ( if you don't know what that means look it up). so no toilets, no drinking water. There is trash service. Walmart sells Reliance double doodie bags with bio gel for restroom solutions. If you want to be right on the river bank, the island is the best place for you to camp. (up stream). You would need to bring a kayak or canoe to access the islands. I have kayaks (3) for rent. I do also rent the house on the property with showers and toilets but you must make prior arrangements. You can pitch your tent on the property (it is fenced in to keep wildlife out an it is not directly on the riverbank). You do have access to the river. The river access is not a beach. The camp site is not directly on the river but very close. 2 minute walk to the river. This place is best for people who want to be on the river fishing, kayaking or canoeing. I have three kayaks to rent if needed. No refunds on kayaks or on rain days. The river levels changes constantly and so does the weather. Bring water tubes, kayaks or canoes. There is an island that you can explore or spend time on if you kayak a short distance up stream. Wear a life vest for your safety and water shoes. If you want to spend the day on an island beach you must bring or rent a kayak, You can put kayaks in up stream and end up at the property if you have a way to transport the kayaks. I have 3 Kayaks to rent 35 each if needed for the day. Also bring a shade tent, a hat and sunscreen in the summer. A headlamp is recommended. Check in before it gets dark. Sometimes the grass is a bit long when it has rained a lot and it can not be mowed unless the ground is dry. Please do not leave glass or trash cans n the field. Everyone who stays must pay the fee. I have someone checking on the property and the vehicles on the property. Please be respectful to others camping and do not go onto other people's private property. Let me know when you are close to the property and when you leave. I require a picture of you removing your trash so that you do not get charged for leaving trash. The river is so beautiful and very much not commercialized. The area you are entering is not accessible to the general public because it is all private property.

This cedar cabin was built in the late 1950's and was the first building in Birch Creek Subdivision and was used as the real estate office when selling land for Subdivision. Joy Moore bought this fixer-upper in 1986 when the oilfield went under, at a youngster in her early twenties and has owned ever since. Lake Somerville is known for the best fishing lake in Texas. Deer run plentiful on the property and will come up close and personal when fed corn. So, stop and pick up a sack or two of deer corn before arrival. The closest city is about a 20 minute drive to Somerville so make sure to have everything you need before camping. The property is located halfway between Brenham and Round Top Texas - midway between Houston and Austin. Glampers have a choice of the bigger yellow cabin with full bath and kitchen (sleeps 5 to 6), the Tiny Green Grasshopper cabin with private outdoor bathroom and queen bed (sleeps 2), our yurt (sleeps 4) with access to the Cabana House, airstream (sleeps 3) with full amenities, or primitive tent sites. The Huber family began its legacy of farming and ranching in 1868 when Samuel Isaak Huber, an immigrant from Switzerland, settled in Cat Spring, Texas. His son, Henry, and grandson, Lawrence, followed in his footsteps. Lawrence, a pretty good horseman and roper, used his winnings to acquire more land during the depression. He and his wife, Edna Schaffner Huber, willed the land to their twin daughters, Mary and Faye. Mary and her husband, Eddie, settled on the home place in 1970. Since that time, they have continued to build a strong and vibrant beef cattle operation. Eddie and Mary cultivated beautiful fields of Coastal and Tifton. Hay from these fields provides quality nutrition to our cattle during the winter months. Mary and Eddie's daughter, Connie and her family, Aaron and Skye, moved to the home place in 2013 and soon after created Watermelon Hill as a way of honoring the animals they raise and sharing the Huber family's natural way of life. The ranch consists of open fields of hay and grazing pastures intermixed with hardwood and softwood forest. Hilly landscapes are broken with wet weather creeks and fishing ponds located around the ranch. The town of Bellville is 7 miles, Columbus is 14 miles and Brenham is a short 25 miles away. There are multiple places to dine or enjoy a local brew close as well. Don't forget that Antique Week over in Warrenton is just 25 miles away. However, none of that matters if all you want to do is be quite and enjoy some serenity. The closest highway is two miles away so if quiet is all you want we have that in abundance. Camp sites are primitive with no water or electricity.

The cows and pigs are all rescue animals so, where as they are adapted to humans being around them, they are very shy and petting them is not allowed. The goats, on the other hand, are very friendly and love to be pet and fed treats. We are located outside of Dime Box, TX and are a 30 minute drive from the quaint, artist village of Round Top, and 12 miles from Lake Somerville SP. Our property has equal parts rolling pastures and wooded thickets and ravines. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore and gorgeous views of the Texas horizons....time your stay just right and you can stand directly between the sunset and the moonrise! We also have a hike-and-bike, nature trail that offers a 360 loop around the property. We currently offer a Port-A-Potty for restroom needs and we have water access points for non-potable water suited for washing hands, dishes or camping gear.

The land has been mainly used by ranchers. It is a simple small getaway. Kirtley used to be a thriving city but once they took the post office away, they attached it to Smithville. Luckily, it hasn't lost its quaint nature. There is a stretch of river property that is normally inaccessible to the general public, but you can access it here where it still lives in its pristine nature. If you look for it you can also find a lot of petrified wood. Learn more about this land:This listing is best for people who want to fish, kayak or Canoe on the river. Please read all this information to the bottom of the page. Note that this is primitive camping ( if you don't know what that means look it up). so no toilets, no drinking water. There is trash service. Walmart sells Reliance double doodie bags with bio gel for restroom solutions. If you want to be right on the river bank, the island is the best place for you to camp. (up stream). You would need to bring a kayak or canoe to access the islands. I have kayaks (3) for rent. I do also rent the house on the property with showers and toilets but you must make prior arrangements. You can pitch your tent on the property (it is fenced in to keep wildlife out an it is not directly on the riverbank). You do have access to the river. The river access is not a beach. The camp site is not directly on the river but very close. 2 minute walk to the river. This place is best for people who want to be on the river fishing, kayaking or canoeing. I have three kayaks to rent if needed. No refunds on kayaks or on rain days. The river levels changes constantly and so does the weather. Bring water tubes, kayaks or canoes. There is an island that you can explore or spend time on if you kayak a short distance up stream. Wear a life vest for your safety and water shoes. If you want to spend the day on an island beach you must bring or rent a kayak, You can put kayaks in up stream and end up at the property if you have a way to transport the kayaks. I have 3 Kayaks to rent 35 each if needed for the day. Also bring a shade tent, a hat and sunscreen in the summer. A headlamp is recommended. Check in before it gets dark. Sometimes the grass is a bit long when it has rained a lot and it can not be mowed unless the ground is dry. Please do not leave glass or trash cans n the field. Everyone who stays must pay the fee. I have someone checking on the property and the vehicles on the property. Please be respectful to others camping and do not go onto other people's private property. Let me know when you are close to the property and when you leave. I require a picture of you removing your trash so that you do not get charged for leaving trash. The river is so beautiful and very much not commercialized. The area you are entering is not accessible to the general public because it is all private property.

The property borders a small creek and has abundant trees, and wildlife. Beautiful views from every vantage with a high field on one half of the property and a low bottom land near the creek where there are many options for a relaxing, private stay. Chose big sky or a more secluded spot. Incredible wildflowers on display in the spring. The property is not bordered by close neighbors or dense housing, just more land so sunsets and rises are wonderful and open. Low ambient light pollution at night means the stars are very bright (and so are the fireflies)! Guests are required to communicate estimated time of arrival well in advance. When arriving, make sure to meet Aaron or a designate at the red gate before entering further into the property. If tent camping, please do not bring glass containers, also you must pack out all garbage and waste. Inquire ahead of time to see if firewood is available to be gathered on site, or if you will need to bring your own. No uninvited guests without 24 hour prior approval, and additional guest fees paid. Also please no more than one dog per site.
