Weekend Trip to Jim Ned River Front Getaway

An absolute escape from the world. The spot right off the river is amazing and isolated. You can fish right off the Riverside. They had kayaks a canoe and paddle boats for the visitors and are very pet friendly.. I made a mistake with my booking, and the host was very pleasant and worked with me on the details. I will be staying again.

2 nights at Jim Ned River Front Getaway

This is by far our favorite Hipcamp site that we have visited. The host Ted met us and showed us around. What a great host. He is truly a very nice man. The river is beautiful. There are so many different birds and bird sounds. The river is a 20 second walk right behind every RV site. They are only three available sites . This place is very romantic for couples. I would say it’s wonderful for families with children and pets. We did not have children with us, but our dog loved it here. It’s very peaceful and quiet but at the same time full of nature sounds. Without any hesitation I highly recommend this place. They have a nice system where people leave extra bait in a freezer for future guests.

This place is like a little paradise got a river winding around it and go fishing. We were camped down in a meadow quiet as can be stocked with firewood nicest people you ever met. Cannot wait to get back.

Perfect place for privacy and adventure. Cisco lake is within walking distance of your site. There are only two rv sites. How great is that? Johnnie is a wonder host with a lot of knowledge about this area. There is 30-50 amp with water and sewage. You will need a longer hose for the sewage. The old zoo and trails are really fun taking you back in history. When we arrived, Philip another host was there to greet us and show us around if needed. This area is very secluded and woodsy. We love it so much. We are definitely going to try a once a year trip here. I’m not sure what the guy who wrote the review was talking about when he was saying something about buying meth. There was nothing of that nonsense anywhere. We highly suggest if you like privacy and adventure and a nice family town book this place now. They will have a spot for you. I was surprised by how remote this location felt but it was perfect for a one night stop over while driving across Texas. I was the only camper at the time so it was very peaceful. The location was beautiful as the sun set and fun to explore the next morning.

Two other campers in the park while I was there. One was most kind, helping to back in my trailer. Although there is lots of road noise from the traffic, it was quiet overnight. A huge rooster stopped by in the morning to make sure I was awake.

This is my 2nd time coming to this awesome Campsite! I brought my fiancé this time and we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend camping trip. If you’re looking for a place where you can drive up to your spot, drop your tailgate. Set up camp, have a fire, and fish. This is the spot. All the privacy in the world you could ask for. Ted’s plot of land is truly a slice of heaven. We even kayaked up into lake brownwood where caught a wicked sunburn and some white bass. Highly recommend this place if you and the boys or you and the wife want to get away.

We tent camped at Johnnie's campground and had a great time! Very cool historic area with lots of trails in walking distance. Host was very welcoming and helpful, he even gave us some firewood he had. We went due to the proximity to the abandoned zoo trails in Cisco, and found that a very popular disc golf course (#3 in Texas and Top 100 in the world) was about an hour and a half away. Definitely worth the trip from Dallas and would camp here again.

Not too far off freeway but far enough to enjoy tge quiet and the stars. Phil was very nice and helped me find amenities. Very interesting place to stay; enjoyed nature walk in old zoo area and more. Absolutely beautiful perfectly manicured landscaped resort campground. The swimming pool was also at a resort quality level. The campground was hilly making the views breathtaking. Everything was so well maintained and clean. Will definitely recommend FireFly campgrounds to family and friends as well as go back there myself.

Super cool unique spot at the end of a historical dead end road. The history related to the old zoo is cool. If you like exploring abandoned places this should be on your bucket list. RV sites have everything there as advertised.

As the park began to take shape, the Williams' realized what a hidden gem it really is. The natural spring that feeds Joshua's pond was named after Sam's mother, Inez. The area around Eastland is rich with local history, including Captain Eastland and the black bean, Old Rip the horned toad, The Santa Clause bank robbery, Ringling Brothers' Circus, Bonnie & Clyde, etc. In addition the area is known to have had a significant prehistoric Native American population. In fact, Sam and Dee are curators of an impressive collection of artifacts found throughout the area. The park boasts 15 camp sites and a large number of picnic spots along the riverfront and near Joshua's Pond, for day use. The Williams Family carved out a trail system that takes hikers along the rim of rock outcrops, between the gaps of huge rock slabs, along the banks of the Leon River and through a heavy shaded canopy of red oak, pecan and cedar elm. There's even a small cave for the adventurous spelunker. Kayaking is popular on the river and kayaks can be rented on the property. Admission provides a full day of fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, picnicking, bicycling, etc. Guests can even stay overnight on primitive campsites, for an additional fee.

Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with a wide range of animals typical of the rolling hills of Central Texas Hillcountry. The property has patches of open meadows speckled with hundreds of large, beautiful heritage trees including Live Oaks, Red Oaks, Cedar Elms, and Pecans. There are two small ponds on the property, with plenty of frogs and typical aquatic species providing a natural soundscape at night. Feel free to explore the site on foot or vehicles, but please keep vehicles only on existing dirt roads (no off-roading allowed). Feel free to use the RV hookup at the green metal building, and enjoy the stunning sunset views of the Texas Hillcountry from the elevated wooden deck connected to the building. The large propane grill (propane provided) on the wooden deck is also available for camper use. Campers can make a campfire in the designated fire pit only, and you must bring your own firewood.
