3 nights at El Cosmico

We stayed here three nights, went down to Terlingua/Big Bend for three nights then didn’t hesitate to stay at El Cosmico again on our way back. We slept in our van in the lot one night and tent camped the other nights. The lounge with wifi was wonderful for getting some work done or just enjoying the complimentary coffee in the morning. The outdoor kitchen came in handy to do some dishes and make tea in the evening. Both the indoor and outdoor bathrooms were clean and much appreciated. Yes, there’s some road noise, but it didn’t hurt our enjoyment of El Cosmico.

El Cosmico is a great option for anyone wanting to stay in Marfa. Self-camping is easy with access to good restrooms and a lovely space to hang out in. They also have great coffee served in the morning! Our only complaint was the noise. It’s near a busy road, very close to a train, lots of barking from dogs, and the people around us were a bit loud. These noises could be minimized if you camp in a spot away from the path and further from the bathrooms though!

Great location and overall a pretty cool spot. Has free coffee in the morning too. If you're bringing an RV/camper just know RV spots are in the parking lot excluded from the general camping area.

Tent camping at el cosmico with 2 kids was easy and fun. We were there in early March and it was very quiet only a few other tents. The location is great for checking out Marfa and surrounding region including Fort Davis. Outdoor shower was perfect and common spaces were fun to hang out in. You are right off a main road so there is some road noise but overnight was pretty quiet.

Know before you go- RV camping is in the parking lot with no hookups. So if you're bringing an RV you won't be in the actual campground. Otherwise it's a pretty cool spot and I enjoyed my stay. Great location and free coffee in the morning. I recommend

Weekend Trip to Agua Fria Adventure

Getting out to this open area of West Texas was amazing. This spot is a perfect place to disconnect for a few days. If you love geology, this spot has some of the coolest rocks to check out. My two dogs loved being here and didn't run into any other animals or people during our stay. We took the drive slow with my RV but did not have any problems following John's directions.

It was a good stop for an overnight stay. In the earlier evening hours someone down the street was needlessly honking their car horn. However, the neighborhood was peaceful during the time we slept into the next morning. Upon arrival, a kind gentleman made sure my husband was settled in.

El Cosmico is eclectic and charming and the staff is very accommodating. It is an easy walk or bike to town. We set up camp near to the office for WIFI. But it was definitely the busy end of the parking lot. The lounge is very comfortable especially when there's a cup of coffee involved!

We cruised into Marfa on our way to Big Bend in late February, so we were able to enjoy tent camping with only one quiet neighbor. There are so many options for lodging onsite, I don’t know if it would be a good match for someone seeking quiet during their busy season, although signs with ‘quiet hours starting at 10 pm’ are posted. The camp is between a road and railroad tracks. Train whistles were infrequent. The store has an area with couches that we were able to relax in, which was super appreciated with the low evening temperatures. Very conveniently located near Chinati, which we had never heard of, but were glad we took the time to check out. One thing to note is that many places in Marfa are not open on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We loved everything about El Cosmico. Really cool place, with pristine bathrooms and showers and delicious coffee. The parking was leveled and big enough to accomodate various campers while still feeling private. You are next to a road which may be a bit noisy, however, there's very little traffic at night. The staff at the lobby were really nice and the music they played there was great!

3 nights at “Roble Perdido” private RV site

Sweet camp spot close to downtown Marfa! We enjoyed sitting outside at the picnic table and taking in the scenery. The walk downtown was easy. Definitely recommend!

Vehicles are not allowed onto the grounds, so if you are staying in your car or RV you will post up in our large parking lot with easy access to the grounds. Tent camping is dispersed, so you pick your space within the designated camping areas that are indicated on the property map provided at the front desk. Consistently drawn to the Big Bend area, after horseback riding and traveling all over Texas I decided to make it my home and have never looked back. The property is on and surrounded by other large ranches between Alpine and Terlingua, allowing space and privacy. Learn more about this land: Open range is a thing of the past, yet the ranches here intertwine, and the view goes on forever. Undulating hills of desert shrubs, cactus and rock – like an ocean with its waves. Just over 30 miles from Alpine and within an hour from the Big Bend National Park entrance. At a higher elevation than Terlingua, temps are at least 10 degrees cooler here. Easy access to Alpine, Marathon, Marfa, Fort Davis and Terlingua. Great location for Viva Big Bend or a stop-over on the way down south. We have two campsites available. Site 1 can accommodate trailers and Site 2 with primitive tent camping (or car camping) - no trailers. High clearance preferred with both sites, required for Site 2. Campsites are far enough apart to allow privacy. High desert camping, dark skies, views of Calamity Creek, Elephant Mountain, Santiago Mountains, Santiago Peak, Kokernot Mesa. 300 acres. No wifi currently or amenities other than pure peace, quiet and beautiful sunsets. Immerse yourself in the beauty and peacefulness of our high desert. 360 views! Campfire ability dependent on weather/wind. Improvements ongoing. Pack it in, pack it out. This is a wildlife exemption, please respect the desert. Rattlesnakes are more prevalent in the warmer months. Leave no trace! Please dispose of all human waste. No hunting or gathering of any kind allowed. Hiking roads is permitted, as well as on host property. Gates and sites are difficult to find after dark - please notify host if arriving after sunset. Specific/detailed directions will be sent upon booking. Owner lives nearby, out of sight. Yes - you may hear a donkey!
