All ready for your summer expedition! Completely sealed up and draft free. Still a very primitive site, but the interior now keeps in the warmth from the fireplace. A set of bunk beds and a 4 seat table as well as some cots makes it work for up to 6 people. Plenty of tent area around of you have a bigger group! Sunnyday's farm and forest was a Christmas tree farm in the 1950's. I've owned it for the last 40 years and it is now a horse farm with pastures and woods. Rustic area of 25 acres of pastures and forest bordering a hundred of acres of railroad and municipal forest. Great for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking. 1.5 miles from Deer Lakes park which has fishing, hiking, mountain biking, frisbee course and a great playground. The Allegheny river, judged to be one of the cleanest in the country, is just 6 miles away. Harrison Hills park offers great hiking along the river and an occasional river otter. The Rachel Carson Trail and Baker trail are just a few miles away. It is a secluded log cabin in the woods on top of a hill overlooking a pasture. It is a very primitive cabin with a fireplace, brick floor, large porch, fabric interior and no chinking in the logs. We provide a bunk bed and cots and a picnic table. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin for tents. There is no vehicle access, no electricity and no water at the cabin, but LOTS of downed wood for fires. There are horses, goats, chickens, ducks and a pig that roam the pastures. The cabin is about 300 yards from the parking area up a fairly steep hill, but the location is worth the walk! If you're stopping with an RV or trailer we have ample parking near the road and have overnight accommodations for horses Great place for a stopover.

Located roughly 20 miles from Beaver Creek State Park, DLR Mustang Ranch is a 17-acre peaceful sanctuary for many wild and previously wild mustangs. The Ranch offers veteran and first responder mustang programs year-round. Please let us know if you are a veteran or first responder for a special rate. Accommodations include a small one-room cabin nestled on a little pond a stone's throw from the main house and veteran program area. The cabin has electricity, a microwave, small refrigerator, tv, futon, heating and cooling; however, it does not have plumbing. Nearby is an outhouse with electricity and a water pump fed from well water. There is a firepit for cooking and picnic tables available. There is also a flat space for tent camping right beside the cabin area. The outhouse and firepit are shared between the cabin and tent campers. If you prefer a more secluded experience, please book both sites. There is space for an RV in the driveway next to the woods with electric hookup and access to the outhouse, water pump, and firepit. While this is a working ranch with farm animals, our aim is to create a peaceful relaxing environment in order to unwind and enjoy the creation around us. Going in the pastures with horses while unaccompanied by the owners is prohibited; however, it can be arranged for you to meet and interact with the mustangs if interested. There are other farm animals including a sheep, a goat, pigs, donkeys, peacocks, turkeys, chickens, ducks and barn cats on the premises. The rich history of Burnhead Grazings is enveloped in a love for God's creation. Dr. Gib and Emmy Lou McLaughlin purchased Burnhead, which is Gaelic for the head of the stream, from William H. Stevens. The once pasture for Hilltop Dairy's cows became a pasture for sheep. Gib and Emmy had been in search of land for years after getting their first border collie and falling in love with the Shepherd lifestyle. Gib trained dozens of border collies to work the sheep and did hundreds of demonstrations highlighting the herding abilities of the collie across the country. Their love for Scotland and the border collie took them Scotland on many occasions. Burnhead Grazings is a snapshot of Scotland, "in bye" or close to, the beautiful college town of Indiana, PA. Less than two miles from two hotels, three miles from downtown, and within minutes from Amish country, it is amazing that this respite still exists so close to civilization. Gib and Emmy's daughter, Moire McLaughlin Bridges and her husband Randy have endeavored to bring the sheep back to Burnhead Grazings and to continue the family tradition as well as to share in the experience. You can listen to an interview on The Christian Witness Program on this page for some history about Moire and Randy in Tennessee where they were residing before coming to Indiana. They are producing lamb, wool for spinning and felting, and hay and are opening up the farm for small events such as weddings or family reunions. Moire is also the author and illustrator of a children's book available for sale on iBooks called Sissy & The King. In November of 2014, with the help of Hilltop Baptist Church and many others, they began hosting an event, LIFE Nativity, the weekend before Thanksgiving, which benefits Life-Way Pregnancy Center. Learn more about this land: This wooded area is 5 miles away from the Ohiopyle State Park whitewater launch area and GAP bike trail. We are less than 9 miles from Frank Lloyd Wright's Classic Fallingwater and about 8 miles from Kentuck Knob one of the last resident homes he designed (both are open for tours). Fort Necessity National Battlefield is 5 miles away. There are numerous native trout streams in the area. Youghiogheny Reservoir is 7 miles away for fishing, boat rentals, and water-sports. The Fern House is the primary camp cabin on the property. Although if someone would want to park a "self contained" camper or small RV on the property we would permit the unit to occupy the area in front of the driveway just pass the entrance gate. It is not within the ferns and is next to the road. There is an electrical outlet available at this small RV or van camper site. We are "nice pet" friendly. Dogs should not be left in the cabin alone. We have a mountain spring (when the spring is running) up the trail road (450 feet away). The ferns will normally be in full glory by the end of May to mid September and are amazing, covering the forest floor. Deer, bear, wild turkey, fox, chipmunks, squirrels and many woodland birds abound the property especially owls. A picnic table, fire ring and firewood is available on the property. Free WiFi on the property as long as the plant life is not too thick! There is a mile hiking loop right on the property and many challenging trails in the area, including the starting point for the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. No smoking is permitted in the cabin. I love solo camping/traveling with my dogs whenever I can. I have a high pressure job and am always looking for peace whenever I can get away. That is exactly what I found at this beautiful property. You feel like you are in your own little nature preserve away from all the stress of the normal day to day. It was the perfect escape. Weekend Trip to DLR Mustang Ranch

When we booked this place, we were very excited because we read all the glowing reviews. I can say that it still exceeded our expectations in every way!!!!! The host could not have been more gracious, kind, and welcoming to us. She is an absolute gem. The cabin was lovely, and I kept forgetting that we didn't have a sink in there because it has every other amenity you could ask for! Air con, a heater, electricity, comfy beds, even wifi for goodness sake! The horses and other farm animals were absolutely lovely, so cute and silly. I recommend that you bring binoculars to see the beautiful wildlife at the pond, pillows, bug spray and maybe a citronella candle, and you will have the absolute best time EVER!

Renee was a great host. We were getting in very late and she even went in and got the futon ready for us to just crash. The cabin is cute, clean and has everything you might need (no indoor plumbing, think glamping when packing). Sitting on the covered porch overlooking the pond and horse field was beautiful and so relaxing. Pumpkin, one of the farms cats, hung with us on the porch and watched over us all night. Highly recommend especially for animal lovers!

The wife and I stayed at the Lily pad cabin for 4 nights. It was very relaxing sitting on the porch overlooking the woods and the neighboring farm land. We watched many deer and a few turkey’s. The cabin has a full kitchen, living area with nice furniture and comfortable bedding. We enjoyed the fire pit and the Lily pond with a fountain. The owners were great, we spoke with them numerous times and they really enjoy what they are doing, thank you.

Such a beautiful cabin. Fred the turkey and Pumpkin the cat came on the porch to visit us Friday nite. The cabin is so pieceful but not quiet at night. At night the bull frogs are really loud lol. Renee told us about the mustangs. She told us bout the heards they came from and what there brands on neck ment. Plus she told us their names which I can only remember a few. We fed some of them carrots. Dale and Renee both told us about the program on how the mustangs help veterans and the training they do. It is really great program them have. They also had 3 donkeys. But they wouldn't come to us to pet them. The outhouse was really clean and has lights. We really loved it here and will be back again this year.

Gerard's property is a wonderful place to stay, and he is super communicative, flexible, and generous! I loved meeting his animals - especially his dog. We brought carrots for the horses, who are super friendly. The cabin is in really good condition and is warm and waterproof. We stayed in tents however as we wanted to sleep outside. There is lots of space for tents but it was great to also have a nice dry place for storage and dining during a rainy weekend. My friends and I spent some time in Pittsburgh and it is very easy to get to the city from Gerard's property, only about 30 minutes. I would highly recommend staying here!

Weekend Trip to Sunnyday's Forest

We spent one night on Gerard’s property and it was so relaxing to get away from the local “noise”. The cabin was great especially during the sudden rain storm that rolled through a few hours after we got there. We already had our tent set up for the night and slept under the stars. Around 11pm the horses were up around the tent and we were greeted by them on our way out the next morning. We had plenty of wood for our camp fire that he set up by the cabin and there was a lot of down branches that we collected and used as well. Communication was very thorough on where everything was, where to go, lock codes, etc. The outhouse was extremely clean too! We would definitely stay again and would love to experience some horseback riding!
