Weekend Trip to Cedar Root at Highland Butte

It is a nice place to camp. The site #2 was a big campsite. The other campsites are also big. The area had plenty of room to roam . It even had a playground. I would stay there again.

I loved Anna’s land, it had a huge enough space to turn my 17 foot trailer around. We had a stunning view, loved how peaceful and quiet it was. Everything was exactly as the pictures. Directions were great found it easy. Anna kept in touch. I’d definitely be going back again.

2 nights at Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood

Loved camping here! Super friendly host that was more than accommodating. The bus/kitchen was well equipped, tons of spots to eat outside, the communal fire pit was great! At first I was bummed we could not have our own st our tent but then we ended up at the fire for 6 hours with other campers and families! Can’t wait to go back!

3 nights at Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood

Such a cool property. We stayed midweek so it was less busy. We really enjoyed the Forest camp, looks like you are actually out in the woods instead of just being in someones yard. Although, there is yard camping too if you prefer. The communal kitchen stayed clean, but I recommend bringing your own dishes. Some where available, but it's sparse. Nice forest trails to walk but still close to grocery and restaurants.

1 night at Luna Lake Vineyard Camp

This site was nothing short of extraordinary. The hosts went above and beyond—everything was thoughtfully prepared, making my stay not only seamless but genuinely memorable. As I make my way up the U.S. West Coast, this was my final stop before Portland, and without a doubt, the most breathtakingly beautiful of the journey. The peaceful chorus of birds and lake life at night added a sense of calm and wonder that’s hard to come by. And the rowboat—charmingly rustic—was an unexpected delight. I had the joy of taking it out with my dog, who was absolutely thrilled to be gliding across the water. A perfect ending to this leg of the adventure.

1 night at Luna Lake Vineyard Camp

Fantastic spot, beautiful and very private. Bullfrogs were no joke in mid-June, I had earplugs though so was able to sleep well anyway.

3 nights at Camp Colton

Camp Colton provides a gorgeous glamping experience close to Portland. When you need relaxing and ease more than remote and rugged, this is the place. Big trees, moss, ferns, scenic creeks, with beautiful metal sculptures sprinkled through, we enjoyed exploring the land. We walked each of the wild trails multiple times, delighting in the small waterfalls, quirky bridges, and wild flowers. Our two small dogs loved it. The premium fire pit kept us at the campsite cooking and enjoying each other’s company at night. The yurt was comfortable, especially the bed, surrounded by greenery and a bird symphony in the morning. We had so much privacy while being close to the bathhouse which featured hot, private showers, multiple toilets, drinking water, and laundry. It was easy to leave and explore other parks in the area and pick up anything we forgot.

2 nights at River Mountain Meadow

100% recommend! Huge sprawling green hills (perfect for my dog to run off leash!) The area is beautifully maintained and little cottontail bunnies hop around the property. A field of adorable cows borders the property and provides an idyllic nature atmosphere. The owner, Anna, is the sweetest human ever; she made us feel SO welcomed. I can't wait to return!

Weekend Trip to Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood

I had such a wonderful stay at Zigzag's Land! I originally booked a campsite but forgot to bring my tent lol Thankfully, the hosts were incredibly accommodating and upgraded me to a van parking spot without any hassle. They were so welcoming and made me feel right at home, which truly made the whole experience even more special. The location is perfect for outdoor adventures, just 20 minutes from Trillium Lake and about an hour from Portland. I can’t wait to come back, this time fully prepared with my tent! Highly recommend this peaceful little gem :)

3 nights at River Mountain Meadow

Beautiful location with lots of space. Anna is very friendly and welcoming. The yard is very clean and tidy. The cows on the other side of the fence were definitely a treat. It is worth noting that it felt like camping right in someone’s backyard, which may not be everyone’s preference for camping as you can see homes around you. We made the best of it and have no complaints. We camped with a 17ft trailer and had more than enough space. I would probably book again for tent camping and try out the other space. The pond in development looks like it will be awesome! Overall a great trip

Neil rules, he’s the best and his work is incredible. If you get a chance to walk around the property you should pay attention to the sculptures, many of them he did.

Weekend Trip to Camp Colton

The whole campground is incredibly beautiful. We stayed in a yurt, the beds and bedding were way above and beyond expectations. All of the mattresses including the bunkbed mattresses were magnificently comfortable. So, the yurt had a wood stove, but when we tried it a couple of times it filled the yurt with smoke even when we only left the door open long enough to get it going. I don’t know what’s going on with it, but we decided it was completely unusable. There was some kind of plug-in heater that didn’t put out enough heat to accomplish much. The yurt has practically zero insulation so it was drafty and cold especially near the walls. The second day I went and bought a heating pad thinking that would do the trick. It was an even colder night. I went outside at 2AM and could see my breath. I ended up taking a space heater from the bathroom and that made it reasonably comfortable for the rest of the night. I wished I’d brought a couple of space heaters and electric blankets. BTW this was in mid-June….so..? We brought our 4-year-old twins along, and they loved it! My only complaint is that there is Foxglove everywhere. This plant is literally toxic. It’s fine it’s left alone, but it made me nervous with the kids running around. If you visit, please just be aware. On a final note, the staff was wonderful—specifically Neal. He was very friendly and happy to help. The place is up-scale and all of the campers were quiet and respectful. It was much better than a state park!

Weekend Trip to Camp Colton

We enjoyed our weekend at Camp Colton in their Fern tent site area. The setting is beautiful with the creek flowing nearby. The property provided lots of area to explore & hike. The bathhouse was a nice amenity to have as was the gazebo with fire pit. We definitely plan on visiting again!

Weekend Trip to Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood

Zigzag’s was wonderful! I arrived as it was getting dark and it was convenient from major roads and well marked. I parked and followed the signs to the office where Tobias greeted me and showed me around. It was much more than just a tent site! There were bathrooms, showers, a bus converted into a kitchen, a fire pit, an organic garden, yurts, a walking path, just a lot more than what I expected. Everything was clean. All the notes and reminders felt very kind. My tent site was very level, and canopied by trees, secluded but still close to the river, fire pit and houses. I only stayed one night but I would definitely go back and highly recommend this place.

We camped on Anna’s property with our 20 ft camper van and it was great! Beautiful property close to a cute little town. It was peaceful and just what we were looking for! And Anna was super sweet! Would definitely recommend.

2 nights at Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood

So pleased with Zigzag Mountain Farm! Just an hour from Portland, I camped out for three nights while exploring a handful of Mount Hood trails. The communal kitchen/bus allowed me to easily wash dishes, charge my devices. My spot amongst the trees stayed shaded the entire time. You can hear and see people throughout the day but you have plenty of space/privacy. Quiet hours were respected. Great vibe and amenities. I highly recommend renting the propane fire ring for fire at your own site. This place was a lovely surprise. I’ll be back soon!

Zigzag Mountain Farm on Mount Hood

Located on Mount Hood about an hour from Portland, Zigzag Mountain Farm is home to an organic garden, old homestead, house, yurts, and barn. 50 acres of open meadows and forest, bordering thousands of acres of national forest. The farm is home to an organic garden, campfire circle, picnic area, a city bus with a campers' kitchen, outdoor seating area with BBQ, kids play structure and hiking trails. The cabin on the property was built by the original homesteaders. Britta and Jim purchased the property in 2009. It had been vacant for a number of years. Giant slash piles scattered the land from previous logging. The house and cabin were not livable and needed major renovations. In 2019, we purchased and brought in a city bus and converted it to a campers kitchen. A year-round creek flows through the property and 3 major rivers are nearby. The Zigzag Mountain Lookout Trail leaves from the property. The property was homesteaded in the early 1900's. E. Mountain Drive was the wagon train trail into Portland, known as the Barlow Trail. Zigzag Mountain Farm offers the perfect escape from the city.

There are 11 acres with a vineyard, fruit orchard, large garden, cob garden wall for lounging, fire pit at the vineyard with several picnic tables and hammocks, a big open field above the camping area, and the beautiful cedar forest. large deck off the barn for music, dinners, yoga and gathering. We consider this land sacred. We are only caretakers passing through, and honor this place and the original people of this land: The Molalla, Clackamas, and Kalapuya tribes, who were "relocated" to the Grand Ronde Reservation in the mid 1800's. Please be mindful of the energy of the forest, and all the people and animals who still reside and have come before. The forest is home to beavers, coyote, deer, raccoons, salamanders, frogs, and many bird and bug species. Our dream is to share this land with all people to create community in harmony with nature and provide a safe space We welcome, open heartedly, people of all gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and artistic expression. WHEN YOU ARRIVE: Proceed down our long driveway to the bottom. Take a left at the sport court, and continue right. On your left is the woodshed with the "Calliope Farm" mural. You will see two parking spots to the left of the woodshed (Harmony Hollow parking) and two on the right (Hobbit Circle) You can unload here and grab a cart. Across from the parking, on the red barn, is the water station, and the hot tub sign up sheet. You will be walking/carting your things down to the forest where you will pass the outhouse on the left. For Harmony Hollow, after you cross the first bridge, take the path to the left and cross a second bridge and the campsite is on your right. For Hobbit Circle, cross the first bridge and walk around the pond, which will lead you to the campsite. The campsites are a short walk, (200 yards) but there is a decline, and you need to be a little hearty to walk back up the hill with your things. You will have a good amount of space and privacy for your group, but may encounter others visiting the forest as well. Enjoy a social time while respecting that some come for quiet and reflection. We provide a picnic table We wish to all work together for safety, with intelligence, common sense, and fire consciousness. OFFERINGS: We have a cedar hot tub, massage therapy, and an outdoor shower. The charge for the hot tub is $15 per person for 75 minutes of hot tub time. You can schedule the hot tub for privacy at the sign up sheet on the barn. If you would like to shower and not hot tub, the cost is $5 per shower, otherwise its included in the hot tub fee, and required for hot tub entrance. If you, or anyone in your group did not pay for a hot tub ahead of time, you will find a Venmo link on the barn, or can bring cash. HOT TUB: The hot tub sign up sheet is on the barn next to the water station. It is first come first serve. If you are a larger group using the tub, consider choosing a later spot for water displacement. If the hot tub is too hot, please add cold water from the hose to desired temp. PLEASE do not turn down the temperature on the hot tub, but use the cold water to create desired temp, but not below 102. If you are staying multiple nights and would like to hot tub again, the cost is $10 pp, instead of $15. Kids under 10 are $5 The hot tub is to the right of the house down by the garden. Your time is private, but we may need to visit/work in the garden. PLEASE read and be mindful of the hot tub etiquette posted in the hot tub area. VINEYARD: ~Silas Wines~ This is the original vineyard for Silas Wines founded in 2010. Our Pinot Noir vines are 40 year old Wadensville clone planted by the Ritter family in the early 80's. You are welcome to walk the vineyard, and explore the front of the property. Our neighbor Beth, to the west, is a master gardener, and loves to give tours of her gardens or you can wander on your own. (please inquire) Dogs: Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog. We and our neighbors have chickens that are penned and free ranged. Please DO NOT allow your dog (or yourself) to roam on our neighbors property over the fence in the next field to the East. He is very friendly, and we have a good relationship, but that is his request. Please pick up after your dog. Please do not lose site of dog, and keep them on leash in common areas. Please do not leave your dog unattended at the campsite or anywhere on the property where they will bark and disturb other guests. THE CARAVAN SPOT: Please let us know if you are needing a van camping spot opposed to tent camping in the woods. We do have a few different options for car camping, and when booking select the "caravan spot". We also can split up your group if some are tent camping and others need van camping, but you would need to book the two different sites. We live in a mountain town and host a parked Rv on site. We are walking distance from food carts, small businesses and quaint coffee shops. We are 25 minutes from skiing and even less to more than 15 hikes. We are a 1 min walk from a Forrest trail. With bridges and a continuous creek. Our rig sleeps 8 and is comfortable and cozy. With an outdoor fire pit and all you need for a relaxed stay.

River Mountain Meadow

Learn more about this land: It sits upon a meadow with surrounding trees and a cow pasture in the distance. Spring time offers a small pond (please see below), but the Lewis river is in within walking distance and tons of recreational activities are close by (swimming, fishing, hiking, wineries, etc.). There are only two sites, far from each other. It is a rural property with a few residential homes and Airbnbs along the river, so be aware there are cars that drive through the one lane road. Town is close by for a quick trip. Privacy is better here than at a public campground and it's perfect for a close trip out of town for a day or two. *This winter was tough, lots of wind, so some trees fell, but they are all cleaned up and lots of small trees were planted. Can't wait until they grow!!! Dogs are most welcome, and may be off leash for a run in the field, however, please be mindful of my own dogs and chickens down below so please do not let them go beyond your site or the field when using. We plan on making the pond to be a swim pond that will hold water all year long (the creek that runs into it is seasonal so it dries out depending on how much rain we get in any given year). Please, read each site description carefully! Site 1 has a portable composting toilet for tent campers (please do not rate me based on this or any other things out of my control, I have tried my best to inform you about what to be aware of in this description AND each site's description). The toilet is santized, bags and gel are provided and it's private. You MUST pack out ALL waste; if you do not like any of these conditions please do not book this site. Site 2 is for RVs that already have a toilet so if you are a tent camper and want to book this site you will need to bring your own camp toilet. This is a beautiful property and I enjoy sharing it, please be mindful of the rules.
