Fast forward a few years, and 40 acres next door with an abandoned house on the canyon ridge went up for sale. We decided to purchase it and start a homestead there. That 40 acres where we now live was badly abused, and we have been in the process of cleaning up and restoring it. Fortunate for you, the land surrounding the Snug Shack was never abused and is still pristine and beautiful. By camping at the Snug Shack, you help support us in our mission to restore this beautiful place.We named our homestead after the rings of small oak trees that grow here on the ridge.: "Oak Ring Ridge." When you arrive, you'll be greeted and briefly introduced to some of the cabin's unique features, including attic stairs to the windowed sleeping loft. Downstairs is a sofa and a sofabed. The coffee cart kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, a coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, a toaster oven, and a microwave. Cook on an outdoor gas grill with a skillet and saucepan, and enjoy outdoor dining at a picnic table. Dishes, linens, and bedding are provided. WiFi speed is suitable for basic use. Mobile phones connect through WiFi. The cabin is non-smoking. Children six years and up are welcome.
Summer recreational areas are nearby with miles of trails, including the Pacific Crest Trail, are nearby. Howard Prairie Lake is across the road. Howard Prairie Lake is a local favorite for fishing for Rainbow Trout and smallmouth bass. Birdwatchers can see eagles, pelicans, geese, ducks, hawks, herons, and many other bird species.
A 25-minute drive will take you to Lake of the Woods, where you can dine, hike, and kayak, or snowshoe and cross-country ski in the winter. Crater Lake National Park is 55 miles away.

Kit’s cabin was well put together. It is tight quarters for some but we are a family of four adults (parents and children) so my daughter and I shared the loft while my husband and son shared the sofa bed. Our family travels a lot
And being cozy with our family is something we are used to and just use that as extra time to talk about everything. If you think your family would do well, you will be comfortable. If you have someone who doesn’t share space well or sprawls stuff everywhere, you may want to limit who comes but still go because the cabin is great. I was really nervous about sleeping in the loft as an average sized human during a heat wave. Thankfully the mattress was great, the trees keep the place shaded, the evening air was cool even on the hot days, and there was a portable fan. Everything we needed was available and my favorite part was having a toilet and good shower!
We didn’t use the outdoor tub but Kit showed us how it works, it looked really clean and the water warmed up very fast during the demonstration. It would be a refreshing and wonderful experience that I plan to try during the next visit. Thank you again!

We had a wonderful time in this cabin. Although the cabin is small, it is well designed and feels much more spacious. The loft was great and the outdoor shower worked exceptionally well. The property is so peaceful and private, it was great to hang out. Hope to get back there sometime.

Such a wonderful and cute cabin in a beautiful and peaceful location! It is in a great spot if you’re looking for some seclusion and relaxation. There are also a lot of great lake spots nearby if you are looking to do some kayaking or paddle boarding. Kit was very kind and accommodating host. I would definitely recommend staying here!

This is one of my most favorite places on Hipcamp. I love everything about this place and the host, who was very thoughtful. My boyfriend appreciates how Kit prepared the fire for us, saying that he had never started a fire this quick before. Everything you need he probably has it already in his cabin. I cannot say enough good things about this cabin. Kit, the owner, is just an awesome host. Super friendly and kindly shared some great stories and conversation, while at the same time giving me plenty of privacy during my stay. The cabin was clean and had everything I needed. A large bundle of firewood with kindling, access to a gas grill, mini-fridge, microwave-oven, heater in the cabin, plenty of seating on the deck and next to the fire pit. The surroundings were amazing. I came through on my motorcycle, and it was an amazing area for that in particular. I could go on, but this place really stood out as easily the best Hipcamp experience I've had. I definitely plan on coming back. I would, without hesitation, recommend anyone stay here if either by yourself or as a couple. It's just an amazing place.
