Weekend Trip to The McIntosh Pines

Absolutely fantastic spot. Lots of trails to explore. Very secluded. Nice view of the creek from the camping spot but far enough away you don't need to worry about mud and bugs.

absolutely no confusion or issues what so ever, we went straight to our campsite, got set up, and were briefly greeted by the host later in the day. beautiful land, and plenty of space and locations to choose from within the farm. would definitely recommend this location whether your staying one night or multiple! When it was time for us too leave there was absolutely no rush or sense of urgency given by the host, i might come again tbh.

Very private with good views of the lake. The only downfall being the thick vegetation making it hard to fish the lake and use the boat provided. Watch for snakes!

Weekend Trip to The McIntosh Pines

I didn’t know what to expect as this was our first time using Hipcamp, but we were not disappointed! The site is super private, on a ledge overlooking the creek (which was very shallow and still during our stay). On wetter weeks the site may be a tricky to get to, but we didn’t have any issues in our normal 2WD SUV. We wanted a weekend with little to no human interaction and that’s what we got : ) Would definitely come back.

Had a great time at this camp spot! We took our kids and they had a blast playing in the water. It did rain some while we were there so the pavilion was great for our kids to stay under until it stopped. We will be booking this site again!

Great site! Right on the pond with a peaceful view of the caretakers property across the water. Simply gorgeous. Good fishing! We caught 12 bluegill. Caretaker is very welcoming and helpful. Bathroom facilities are within a barn on the property. Nicely maintained and clean. Would highly recommend. A couple of things to note: There is a road behind the campsite with active traffic. During the day, the traffic can be easily heard. Didn't bother us much. To get to the campsite, there is a significant bump to drive over which really is best for high clearance vehicles. This site is about a 5 minute walk to the bathrooms.

Weekend Trip to Hemlock & Hobbit Forest

We had a completely magical time at Melissa’s cabin!! She is so warm and welcoming, and that is reflected in the beautiful spaces she’s crafted. We had everything we needed for a wonderful stay. It was lovely to feel tucked away in the woods but still be so close to a vibrant town and beautiful hiking trails. Thank you, Melissa!

I needed a simple place to set up a tent and grab some shuteye in the middle of a long drive. This place was perfect. Beautiful setting. The owner was very chill and helpful. I would definitely recommend.

Great cabins. I would suggest renting both and maybe the Kermit’s bottom campground outside for a memorable large gathering. Sweet location. Never found the shower though. I’m sure it’s there somewhere within the trees, but it was invisible to us.

Beautiful camp ground. There’s a pond you can fish in and there’s a 4 person kayak that is a ton of fun. The two small cabins we stayed in were perfect. The experience was well worth it. I’d recommend getting thee two cabins along with the meadow at the bottom of the hill (Kermit’s bottom) for large get-togethers. The only negative thing was that we couldn’t find the shower and didn’t have anybody that we could ask where it was. Great time if you’re looking for a secluded camping stay.

What a perfect first time Hipcamping experience for our group! This site was everything we wanted it to be & more. The seclusion was excellent. The site was flat, dry, & cool for our 3 dogs! It was so nice being shaded by the abundant tree coverage, while still having sunshine sprinkled throughout the site. We really enjoyed watching the sun fall beneath the tree line across the meadow in the evenings. Definitely be prepared for a trek to & from the site! Wasn’t a bother for my group, but for sure an unintended workout lol! We can’t wait to book another trip.

Purchased in 2019, these overgrown acres are now a federally registered Farm with the crop being Trees, and have a 10 year Woodland Stewardship Management Plan with the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources. I will be working hard over the years to bring this back to a healthy stand of mixed hardwoods, full of wildlife habitat, and native vegetation. 2024 saw the start of our EQIP contract which includes killing the non-native invasives, like Tree of Heaven, Autumn Olive, Honeysuckle, and more. 2025 was planting, staking, and tubing of 800 tree seedlings, including Black Walnut, Red Oak, Scarlet Oak, Sugar Maple, Persimmon, and Tulip Poplar. Learn more about this land: Enjoy approximately 10 wooded acres while being the only campers on site. Provided are a 4x8 lean-to, outhouse, fire ring, and a spool table. Hiking trails are cut throughout the woods, so feel free to explore. Just stay within the wire fence lines to avoid crossing onto neighboring private lands. The pond is off limits for liability reasons. This is a Federal and State managed Woodland, so please do no harm to any living tree or plant. Feel free to pick up any dead wood for use in the fire ring. (Cut Firewood also provided for free at campsite.) You do have to hike in and out between parking area and campsite. It's about 500 feet from parking to campsite. Mostly level, with one short incline. 10 minutes from The Wilds. 10 minutes from I-70. 15 minutes from I-77 and Cambridge.

The Lake at the Flying J Farm

The owner bought the farm in 1998 for his retirement from a faculty position at the Ohio State university. Two buildings, the farm house and old barn, are original dating back to 1831. These have been restored for current use. The mission of the farm is to restore health both in people though the products produced and in the land by farming in a sustainable way with no conventional chemicals, antibiotics, and use of GMO. We host many visitors including tours and events. An on farm market is available to visitors for purchase of our products including grass-fed beef, maple syrup, and fruits and vegetables. The cabin was built using wood from the farm. It has off-grid electricity meaning it is powered by batteries charged by solar panels. There is not sufficient power for devices with a heating element such as coffee makers and hair dryers. You may charge cell phones. For any other use, please check with the owner. Wild Life. There is an abundance of wildlife to be observed on the farm. Deer can be seen at dusk, raccoons can be seen going through your camp food at night (if you put it in your car), turkeys, hawks, vultures, rabbits, coyotes (heard screaming at night), frogs (especially heard at night), fish (jumping), and many song birds (my favorite, the bobolink, May and June only, nesting in the pastures). Trash. This sustainable farm has no garbage hauling, please carry away your trash.

We've had guests set up a tent on the deck beside the treehouse for fun! Swings, and a slide make the Oxley a fun adventure. The double bed in the loft and the two stacked single beds are comfortable and cozy. The McKee Farmhouse was built in the 1800s and is rich in memories. It's a rustic old house, with wood trim, hardwood floors, and plenty of imperfections that make it unique. You can sit on the porch and drink your coffee with a view of the barn and pastures, or cozy up in one of the house's four bedrooms and sleep in. The house is fully air conditioned and heated, has all the amenities of home, but takes you back to a simpler time. Our campsites are all set apart from one another in various locations on the 240 acre farm. Secluded and unique, each campsite has its own charm. We provide guests with a fire ring and a shovel, and some sites have a picnic table. Hiking trails are marked throughout the land. Guests can hike with views of horses, cows, wildlife, corn fields, large boulders, and rustic barns. The dirt roads provide great places to drive ATVs and four-wheelers. An Amish farm borders McKee Farm. Guests should know there is minimal cell service, however, this can offer a great opportunity to unplug. Tullihas in the Trees provides a perfect remote and rustic getaway for anyone. In October and November, access to hiking is limited.

Edge of the Ledge Camp is a 4 site primitive campground on ground is located in a mature oak hardwood forest that offers bright light under a full forest canopy. In our many camping adventures over the years our favorite campgrounds were in our National Forests. We have built the campground with that "feel" of a forest experience. We provide a drinking water station, 2 clean sit arewidely spaced and offer considerable privacy. There is great scenic motor touring from Spring Mountain, the highest point in the county, across the Mohawk Dam, to riverside drives, scenic backroads and a ride across a covered bridge! Walk the forested blue loop nature trail on an adjoining 13 acres that loops through BIG trees and large rocks of glacial till under the shade of an ancient chestnut oak tree. The trail begins across the road opposite the campground driveway. Ticks, mosquitos and deer flies can be bad at times. Protect yourself! See us on Facebook at Edge of the Ledge Camp. The 7 Principals of Leave No Trace *Plan Ahead and Prepare *Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit. *Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies. *Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use. *Visit in small groups when possible. Altering a site is not necessary. In popular areas: *Concentrate use on existing trails and campsites. *Walk single file in the middle of the trail, even when wet or muddy. *Keep campsites small. Focus activity in areas where vegetation is absent. In pristine areas: Disperse use to prevent the creation of campsites and trails. Avoid places where impacts are just beginning. Dispose of Waste Properly Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite, food preparation areas, and rest areas for trash or spilled foods. Pack out all trash, leftover food and litter. Utilize toilet facilities whenever possible. Otherwise, deposit solid human waste in catholes dug 6 to 8 inches deep, at least 200 feet from water, camp and trails. Cover and disguise the cathole when finished. Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products. To wash yourself or your dishes, carry water 200 feet away from streams or lakes and use small amounts of biodegradable soap. Scatter strained dishwater. Leave What You Find Preserve the past: examine, photograph, but do not touch cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches. Minimize Campfire Impacts Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the environment. Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light. Where fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires. Keep fires small. Only use down and dead wood from the ground that can be broken by hand. Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, then scatter cool ashes. Respect Wildlife Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, [habituates them to humans], and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Protect wildlife and your food by storing rations and trash securely. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter. Be Considerate of Other Visitors Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Step to the downhill side of the trail when encountering pack stock. Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors. Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises. These principles were established by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, and built on work by the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management in the mid 1980s.
