This small farm is 7 acres of the original 25 my great grandmother purchased for her family in 1934. Guests can enjoy the cabin as well as the barn and surrounding property with animals and greenspace.
The Camp Cabin:
Camp in comfort in our "little cabin in the woods." Accommodates up to 6 guests, with a queen-sized bed, a futon and two low single beds in the loft, accessible only by ladder. Kids 6 and older may sleep in the loft-- just like Laura and Mary-- and they can read a chapter of one of Laura Ingalls' "Little House" books before bed!
The cabin contains a small refrigerator, microwave and gas fireplace (no, the pioneers didn’t have that!). Fresh eggs and other snacks are provided for breakfast. The restroom and shower are located in the walkout basement of the farmhouse, a 40 yard walk from the Cabin. The restroom has a private entrance and is used only by guests during their stay.
The Farm Property:
Pet and interact with goats and other farm animals. The goats and chickens love it when guests bring them tortilla chips, crackers or vegetable scraps. Enjoy fun activities on the farm and around the property.
Guests are welcome to use any of the common areas for fires or grilling. Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The Barn:
The barn has a recreation area with basketball, foosball, air hockey, ping pong and swings. The climbing wall is off limits to guests. This facility is open May through October.
The barn is available for parties for an additional fee, depending on the size of the group. We have seating for up to 60 guests. Please note that the barn is not climate controlled (no air conditioning in summer, but the doors open and we have fans). The barn is closed November through April.

The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 8 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 8 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels.

An extra large party tipi ("Great Gatherings") is available for larger groups as a daytime rental or for overnight stays (up to 18 people). This tipi is on a woodchip base for a more primitive authentic experience and has optional cots and chairs for your use.
In the fenced Tipi Village compound area there is a large Tipi on a wooden deck, a small play tipi for kids. The Tipi is adorned with native American Indian decor and furnished with one queen size bed, bedside table and camp chair. Optional cots available, offering sleep accommodations for a total of 5 -6 people.
Tipi Village is equipped with a shared outdoor kitchen and dining area, including a gas barbeque grill and fresh spring water. There is also an instant-heat outdoor shower available. A family-friendly fire pit with surrounding seating is a centralized spot for drum circles, late night marshmallows, and evening conversations. At night you'll see fireflies and hear plenty of crickets, bullfrogs and singing tree frogs.

The cabin is lovely, the beds are comfy, the goats and the sheep are adorable! It was really warm inside the cabin, even in single digit temperatures. The bathroom in the main house is very nice. Shiloh is super friendly (though a bit overbearing). Our son and his friends had a great time sledding on the sledding hill, and it was terrific that there were sleds to use!

We planned a hunting trip and the Friendly Beasts Farm Barn Loft was a perfect choice. Spacious,clean, cookware, spices all the toiletries everything you needed for a quiet getaway,just show up with food and cloths and enjoy. The sunsets from the back deck to all the star gazing,it was truly the perfect choice. Frances and Matthew were wonderful hosts,very attentive with all our needs. Our next hunting trip I hope the Barn Loft is available.

Some of the reviews are overly critical of Matt's camping area. The campgrounds are easy to get to, with improved gravel roads. The road leading to his land is mostly paved, but only one way. The 4x4 camp sites are well marked. I had no issue getting my pop-up camper in and out from one of the close to the road spaces. Kermit's bottom did require 4x4 when climbing the gravel hill. He clearly states this many times in the listing.
All of that being said, the campground is peaceful, serene, and very colorful during the fall. Firewood is provided for a small fee, as well as a fire ring and picnic table. Close to town as well - you can get whatever you need within 10 minutes. Currently there are outdoor showers and a porta potty. I will definitely come back, and I'm sure it will only be a better experience.

It’s an awesome little camp ground! Nice swim/fishing pond, an outlet to charge a phone, outdoor showers with a propane water heater, firewood available and a porta potty. The property was really pretty! Walked the creek bed to see some cool rock formations, bunch of wildlife and had owls hooting to wake us up both mornings. 2nd time there now, I will visit again! I walked past the cabins while I was there also, definitely want to rent one of those, they look really nice.

We had a great time at Shady Maple cabin! It was a beautiful place to unwind, de-stress, and be in an amazing setting! The cabin had everything you would need for a relaxing time. We love a good log cabin and this did not disappoint! It was clean, had snacks, jacuzzi tub inside, a hot tub outside, board games, was private enough and everything worked as it should. It is a beautiful and peaceful place to camp. There are a number of sites to choose from; in the woods or out in the open on grass. The only truly level place is on the grass near the road in so it is not an ideal camping spot for larger pull trailers or RVs. My camper is only 13' so it was just small enough. To my surprise there are a few power hookups and a water hydrant. Also, the owner has provided a port-a-potty and an outdoor shower with an on-demand water heater! He also provides firewood for a reasonable price. If you are a star gazer, there are clear views of the sky with no light pollution. If you like primitive camping with some amenities this is your place. I would definitely stay again.
