1 night at Heartland Homestead

Heartland was perfect for me stopping through on my road trip! I was able to pull my car directly to the site and set up my SUV tailgate tent. I arrived after dark so it was a little difficult to find the entrance, I only had to turn around once, but during the day the entrance is clearly labeled and it is just before the Equestrian property they mentioned. It was a safe and quiet spot for the night and I would absolutely stay again!

Second time here and would stay more often if I wasn't six hours away, great peaceful place that is out in the country but really close to the neat town of Millersburg which has not only all the old interesting parts of town but a modern outskirts with 100% anything you need. We tented again but did check out the new cabins Matt offers and they look super neat with wood stove and all!!

This really is a must visit cabin! Pj was a huge help when my wife and I and of course our fur baby came to stay during the new years. The cabin was so cozy, clean, and just perfect for some much needed relaxation. We will be back for sure!

Was the most beautiful cabin I have been to. Mr Pj was awesome I can't wait to get back there. Me and my daughter spent Christmas here and it was magical. They even had a Christmas 🎄 waiting on us. I didn't stay in the cedar cabin, it was too cold and the roof was leaking when I scheduled so the wonderful host graciously offered me her much cozier "hobbit" house, which was essentially the same size but warmer. I have to say it was one if the coolest eco friendly houses I've ever stayed in! Really thoughtful attention to details such as the assymetric construction based on the layout of the slope and hillside. An inspiring example of how human structures can interact organically with, and even be enhanced by the natural world. All of this is only to say the host is a really welcoming, and vibrant individual and such a wonderful property is surely an extension of their warm artistry.

A beautiful place to disconnect and enjoy time in nature. The place is super cozy. Even our 2 year old & 4 month old enjoyed it. Our dog loved the open area she could run off leash safely & explore. Nothing but positives to say. The hosts are super friendly; making sure you’ve got everything you need!

Couldn't have had a better stay at a nicer place. The cabin had everything we could have needed. A full kitchen, nicely stocked, a full bathroom, and a beautiful view. Outside is set up perfect for a nice fire. Quiet, private stay. Hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. 10/10 recommend.

4 nights at Shady Owl Ranch

Such a beautiful and inviting space! The cabin is adorable and very comfy. I loved watching the ducks in the morning. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 8 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. Shady Owl Ranch is a 18 acre non-profit animal sanctuary with dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and turkeys. Owners Chuck and Amanda moved from Northern California and re-established their rescue here in Central Ohio. We have two finished studio cabins. They are very close (2 miles) to the town of Mount Vernon, OH with hiking trails on the property. Pets are allowed but there are free range animals on the property so their safety is priority. We have added a 2 acre fenced in area for dogs off leash. It's our version of a Dog Park. Plenty of bike trails around town and only 20 miles to Mohican State Park. Farm fresh eggs from our rescued chickens and local honey are available for purchase. Money from our vacation rental helps with feeding our rescue animals and expanding our non-profit animal sanctuary.

Heartland Homestead is the perfect spot for you to enjoy a weekend away from home and in nature. With dreamy vibes and open skies, you can relax in our tent camping spots around Mother Oak or reserve a glamping cabin for a true unplugged experience - but make it comfy cozy. Depending on the time of year + season, you may see our goats, cows, pigs, chickens, or more! We may have pick-your-own tomatoes, pumpkins, + flowers as well. Glamping Cabins We have two glamping cabins that include beds and lanterns so you get the feel of sleeping in nature but comfortably. Each cabin has a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. One cabin has a queen-size bed and the second has a full-size bed and a trundle bed with 2 twin-size mattresses. The cabins do not have electric or water. A porta-potty is located near the barn (a 5 minute walk) and a lug-able loo or portapotty will be available closer to the cabins depending on when you stay. We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area. Tent Camping Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night. Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well. Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true: -Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods. -Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask! -Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery. All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM. We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply. We can also accommodate larger tent camping groups depending on the day. Additional fees would apply. The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced. Want to add on a farm-fresh breakfast? We do that! Our breakfast package features eggs from our chickens, breakfast sausage from our pigs, and bread baked just for you. At times, we also have beef burgers and sausage available. We can also offer charcuterie + smores boards during your stay. Firewood is available for purchase or you can gather dried wood from the woods around the cabins. Cast iron, coffee percolators, games, and more are available to use for your stay as well. We regularly host modern homesteading workshops, full moon yoga, and sound baths at the farm. Earth Song Farm is an organic, bio-dynamic farm growing a variety of produce, chicken, eggs and more. An extra large party tipi ("Great Gatherings") is available for larger groups as a daytime rental or for overnight stays (up to 18 people). This tipi is on a woodchip base for a more primitive authentic experience and has optional cots and chairs for your use. In the fenced Tipi Village compound area there is a large Tipi on a wooden deck, a small play tipi for kids. The Tipi is adorned with native American Indian decor and furnished with one queen size bed, bedside table and camp chair. Optional cots available, offering sleep accommodations for a total of 5 -6 people. Tipi Village is equipped with a shared outdoor kitchen and dining area, including a gas barbeque grill and fresh spring water. There is also an instant-heat outdoor shower available. Two gas stations within a 5 minute driving distance offer ice refills for your cooler and quick snacks, Miller's Grocery is in Lodi (5 mins) and Medina is just up the road (15 mins). For the Tourist: Medina Town Square is adorned with tiny shops and boutiques. You can also find Castle Noel, a Christmas museum displaying paraphernalia from popular Christmas films throughout time. Two Farmer's Markets are active from May 1st- September in Medina on Saturday mornings from 9am-1pm. Nearby Litchfield offers an outdoor Flea Market (about 15 min. drive). Cleveland is 45 minutes away with the rock-n-roll museum, science center, botanical gardens and much more. Amish country is 45 minutes South with many attractions, stores and restaurants. There is a large assemblage of old order Amish just 10 minutes west with many farm produce stands. Dragway 42 is also just 10 minutes SW near West Salem. Akron is 30 minutes East and has many worthwhile attractions including Stan Hywet Grounds, the former estate of F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
