Amish country is also just 15 minutes away with a great bakery, markets and greenhouses. This area is home to an impressive network of ancient earthworks including the world famous Serpent Mound. Our accommodations range from primitive tent-camping to "glamping" in one of our tiny off-grid cabins. The sites are spaced out for privacy and each site offers a private picnic table and fire pit. There are two shared privies/outhouses which have basic composting toilets (not flushing). A grassy parking area is provided near the road, however, ALL SITES ARE WALK-IN (with the exception of site #1). ***Please take note that this is private property and the host lives on site. If you are looking for a place to be loud and party into the night, this is not the place for you. If you are looking to spend some quality time in nature, welcome. You’ll encounter abandoned historical sites and relics dating back to the early 1800s, hidden away among the wooded hills of Ohio’s least populated county. If you're a lover of outdoor recreation, this is the place to be. Within about a half-hour drive, there are many opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, kayaking, hunting and fishing, and birding.  Nearby parks and forests include Hocking Hills State Park, Hocking Hills State Forest, Lake Hope State Park, Zaleski State Forest, the Moonville Rail Trail, Lake Alma State Park, Tar Hollow State Forest, and more!Set up camp wherever you like!  There are 12 acres of open field space, surrounded by 50 acres of wooded hills and hollows with hiking trails and level spots to pitch tents. Vehicles can be driven to the field sites; we are still working on a road to access the hill sites by vehicle.  The fields have about a dozen "permanent" sites with stone or metal fire rings and log seating.  Portable fire rings are also available that can be moved anywhere.  Dead wood for campfires is free to gather, or split firewood is available to purchase for $5/bundle. A toilet and solar shower are located at the center of the property. An outdoor water spigot is also available. Guests are expected to follow the "Leave No Trace" principles. Any trash packed onto the property must be bagged and taken with you.

Turkey Hollow is nestled in the rolling hills of Holmes County Ohio. We are right on the edge of the largest Amish settlement in the nation. The primitive campground is in the corner of a small 40 acre farm owned by Matt Polcyn. He started the campground 13 years ago because of his love for nature and real camping. He enjoys traveling in many places in the States and the Caribbean islands and loves finding places off of the beaten path and not commercialized. Because of his interest and love for primitive camping he decided to open the campground in order to provide the same opportunity as a getaway primitive camping location that he tries to find when he travels. We now just added a shower in the trees, warm water rinse off area. The peaceful 20-acre country farm has food gardens, a frog habitat pool, a barnyard for the chickens & ducks, a bluegill fishin' pond, a pollinator maze, a prairie garden, and an outdoor stage. After crossing a winding creek into 10 acres of woods, you may see deer, turkey, fox, coyote, mink, eagles & barred owls. In early spring, the peepers are peeping, wildflowers are abundant & the vernal pools welcome the wood frogs, salamanders and fairy shrimp. Summer brings on the bullfrogs, butterflies, dragonflies and fireflies. Fall is a great time to pull grapevine to make wreaths & to build stick forts in the woods. We cater to the tent camper so that we can hear frogs & owls instead of generators. But, there is an RV section up front for those with quiet generators with several feet of gravel under the grass to hold the weight of your camper. We charge by the carload & there are different rates for driving back toward the woods for camping depending on the number of wheels & the weight of your vehicle (a factor on the wear & tear on the land). We believe in going outside to play, growing & eating fresh food, strengthening family bonds and promoting the awareness of our natural resources. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: 1) The speed limit is 5 mph as soon as you enter the property (kids & dogs are quick to dart in front of you). 2) As a state registered campground, it is mandatory that you check in at the house to fill out a Registration Form before heading to your campsite. 3) No glass allowed anywhere on the property (we don't want our feet or paws cut open and can do without flat tires). 4) Children under 18 must be attended to at all times for their safety (the frog pool is 10' deep, the pond is 8-10' deep depending on rains, and the creek can turn into a churning river). Heartland Homestead is the perfect spot for you to enjoy away from home and in nature. With dreamy vibes and open skies, you can relax in our tent camping spots around Mother Oak or reserve a glamping cabin for a true unplugged experience - but make it comfy cozy. Depending on the time of year + season, you may see our goats, cows, pigs, chickens, or more! We may have pick-your-own tomatoes, pumpkins, + flowers as well Glamping Cabins We have two glamping cabins that include beds and lanterns so you get the feel of sleeping in nature but comfortably. Each cabin has a picnic table, fire pit, and charcoal grill. One cabin has a queen-size bed and the second has a full-size bed and a trundle bed with 2 twin-size mattresses. The cabins do not have electric or water. A porta-potty is located near the barn (a 5 minute walk) and a lug-able loo or portapotty will be available closer to the cabins depending on when you stay. We are happy to help get your gear back to the cabins with the farm cart and then it is an 8-minute walk along a hay pasture to the parking area. Tent Camping Our tent camping spots are located under Mother Oak, a 100-year-old oak tree in the middle of our farm. With ample shade, a fire pit, and nearby portapotty, you can relax under the stars into the night. Hiking trails weave through the back of the property and you are welcome to explore those as well. Because we are a working homestead and farm, a few things are true: -Sometimes there’s mud. We suggest boots for walking around the property and in the woods. -Our farm animals are great - and may also bite. Please do not pet or chase them. We are happy to arrange opportunities to interact with the animals. Just ask! -Not always, but at times, our neighbors will start farming early in the morning and you can hear their machinery. All of our sites have privacy but are not truly remote. We want you to enjoy yourselves but please be mindful that our house is on the property as well as our neighbors. Music needs to be turned down to a low level by 11 PM. We can accommodate pop-up campers, camper vans, etc near Mother Oak as well. Please message with any questions before reserving. Additional fees would apply. We can also accommodate larger tent camping groups depending on the day. Additional fees would apply. The homestead is located near 58 so you can hear cars during the day and night. The cabins are about a ½ mile from the road so the noise is greatly reduced. We regularly host modern homesteading workshops, full moon yoga, and sound baths at the farm. If you would like to inquire about booking one of these as an add-on to your stay, please message us! Conveniently located 1 mile from Oberlin College, 6 minutes from the turnpike (I-80), and 35 minutes from Cleveland, Heartland Homestead is like stepping away from the hustle of everyday life and into nature. Great space, warm, safe and welcoming! Impressive woods and garden! Beautifully laid out and reasonably accessible. We loved the private feeling of staying at the A-Frame. If you are using a wagon to transport your camping gear be sure to navigate it up and down the steep hill in the woods with 2 people. If the weight is too much you can flip it or send it shooting into the ravine.

Great getaway weekend with my significant other. The sugar shack was perfect if you’re looking for privacy and all the amenities you could ask for. Literally don’t need to pack other things besides you’re clothes, food and maybe some headlamps but we were blown away by how much the cabin had to provide for us. A sauna visit is a must if you’re second guessing yourself. I can definitely see us coming back sometime soon.

Weekend Trip to A-frame rustic cabin

This is place is exactly as pictured it’s a small piece of peace and quiet away from the busyness of life and yet close enough to have anything you could need. The hosts are amazing people, they have so many little amenities that make this rustic cabin a little more Glamping then camping. The weather was cold and they have so many options to stay warm, the cabin provides a great place to rest and relax and I even cooked a stew over the little stove. I will definitely comeback here. Two days flew by and I’m already planning my next time here. The only advise I will give you is call service is spotty for Verizon but my ATT hotspot worked or just shut them off all together if you can. Also get groceries before coming to the area as a dollar store is all that is close. The hosts did a great job describing their place and left clear instructions. Thank you for the great place.

Great spot close to Cuyahoga National park! The hosts of the cabin are very accommodating and have clearly put a lot of work into making the place cozy. It also has a cute history to it which I enjoyed reading in the book:) We wish we could have stayed sooner, but it was truly perfect for the time we were there.

Had an amazing time here, a great way to get away and spend some quiet quality time in nature. The place come with many amenities which are all easily labeled and we paid extra for the heated shower and canopy, it rained but we’re still able to enjoy it under the canopy and the heated shower was very easy to use with the directions given to us in the binder. During October the host says they leave pumpkins for the guest and we had a great fall activity doing that. 10/10 definitely plan on coming back!

This was my 2nd stay at Aimee’s beautiful property. This was my first solo camping trip, and it was amazing :) I felt welcome, safe, cozy, and relaxed. The cabin is rustic and sweet and has pretty much everything you might need for cooking camp meals, a comfy couch and the bed in the loft was very comfortable! Spent lots of time outside by the fire, what a great little spot to disconnect from the demands of every day life <3 just what I needed! Tangy the orange cat paid me a visit every evening to check in on me and to see what snacks I might have. :) The spiders also kept checking in on me, to make sure my heart was working and to let me know I was the visitor! Haha Had a nice time chatting with you for a bit, I am already looking forward to my next visit. Until then, keep it up! You’ve created something so special that you so graciously share with us! We loved our first visit to Hocking Hills, and our stay at Hilltop made that even more enjoyable. We typically tent camp, but since the weather is unpredictable in October and we figured it may get cold, we opted to stay in one of the deluxe glamping tents, and we are so happy we did. It did end up raining one night and we stayed perfectly dry and warm. The deck was great to eat our meals, and the beds were very comfortable. I loved the lighting; it made for a very cozy camping experience. My family loved the jumping pad, and we were all very pleased with the cleanliness of the bathroom/shower house. Overall, we loved Hilltop and will definitely recommend to others!
