Big Rock has a fire ring, 2 picnic tables, and its own pit latrine. A seasonal spring (Oct-July) is available on the property and a small stream, Piney Branch, that runs year round, drink at own risk (see map). There are two marked hiking trails. Please use the map to stay on property. Green Haven is centrally located 20 minutes between Brevard and Hendersonville. DuPont State Forest is 25 minutes away and it includes hiking, mountain biking, and waterfalls. Boaters will find the French Broad River, Horseshoe Bend, river access less than 10 minutes. More mountain biking at Ride Kanuga and Ride Rock Creek downhill mountain bike park 15 minutes away. The 7 mile paved Ecusta Trail from Horseshoe to Hendersonville is open, several miles away. Nearby breweries include Mills River Brewery and Bold Rock Cidery 15 minutes away.

No tents allowed here, but it's a peaceful alternative to a cracker barrel parking lot. ----- Once you set up camp feel free to visit the Coffee Shed - It's a small shed on the property by the house that has everything you need to make a great cup of coffee. Coffee is always free. :) I have fire pits, tables an, if I am home, I have a super cute corgi that roams around the property throughout the day. If you spot me outside feel free to say hi or ask any questions about the area. I love helping guests find new places to explore. You will be about 8 minutes to DuPont State Forest (my favorite hiking and biking area) which has miles and miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The entrance to Pisgah National Forest is about 15 minutes away as well so it's a convenient drive to visit the forest and drive up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also own a company that guides "coffee hikes" to local waterfalls in DuPont State forest. You can find more about that in the photo descriptions. :) Please note!! My road up to my driveway is steep and bumpy. It’s only 0.3 miles up but bumpy. You don't need four wheel drive but higher ground clearance is recommended. (I have had small cars make it up but it is a bit intimidating if you are not used to driving in the mountains). if you have a small car just go slow. :) ------- Larger group? Want an indoor bath and shower?? If you are planning a larger group camping retreat and want to book the entire campground (including the main house with indoor shower, restrooms, and full kitchen and spare bedroom) I can make that happen for $500 a night. My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Learn more about this land:   Pitch your tent in the grass on the tip top of the mountain or park your camper in the flat gravel spot with a fire pit just below the top with beautiful views overlooking Cane Creek.  In the fall and winter enjoy 360 degree views and in the summer enjoy the shade and cool breeze while relaxing & snacking on wild wine berries and black raspberries.   What you will not find is light pollution, traffic, and a desire to leave the mountain.  Fall asleep to the calls of the hoot owl and wake up to the knocking of the wood pecker.       If & when you decide to explore the area, be sure to checkout Hickory Nut Gap farm just 7.9 miles away & Whistle Hop Brewery 7.7 miles away.  Turgua brewery just down on Cane Creek road is only 6.2 miles from camp.  Cane Creek Valley Farm as well as the Cane Creek Community swimming pool is also at the base of camp just in case the kids need a dip of ice cream or a dip in the pool.  Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville.  We love taking our kids there.      We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. Lynn is a true Blue Ridge native and we both hope you enjoy the proximity to our towns, the mountains, rivers, streams, and waterfalls. The local apple orchards are also amazing! Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and rafting are only a few of the activities available within a short drive. So, soak it all in, come back home to Back Yard Campground, watch the sunset and enjoy sweet dreams.

A truly healing stay. I traveled from Charleston to Greenville to revisit some meaningful spots and say goodbye to old memories before moving. This campsite was not only affordable but felt incredibly safe which was important since my husband was on a work trip and I was camping with just my dog. I’m so thankful for this location, it was exactly what I needed. It was a camping experience but near the city.

Weekend Trip to Barnhill Mountain in Fletcher, NC

We had the most wonderful weekend at Edwin’s spot. It was absolutely beautiful, incredibly private, and exactly what we were hoping for in a peaceful getaway. We tent camped in February, and even with the colder weather, we were comfortable and cozy. I didn’t expect the shelter on site, but we really appreciated using it for extra storage. The views were stunning, the sunrise was breathtaking, and the campfire kept us warm all afternoon while we cooked and relaxed. There’s something special about spending a slow day by the fire with nowhere else to be. Our dogs had the best time exploring all the open space, too. It truly felt like our own little retreat for the weekend. We were sad to leave when the trip was over, but we’ve already shared this hidden gem with friends and hope many more people get to experience it. We’ll definitely be back!

Amazing location to everything in Asheville and lovely private campsite with some great add-ons. Adding the hot tub option turned a camping weekend into a luxury weekend! Plenty of space to get level, turn around and no road noise.

Beautiful spot. I’m more of a backcountry person, but this felt very comfortable. Big open field, as well as wooded area to wander in, nice platform to set your tent up on. Very easy to find. I’ll definitely be staying here again.

Such a lovely spot! I live in the area and needed a spot in the woods to decompress and this was just that! The spot and the view were lovely, I enjoyed having all the storage for gear and firewood, and the privy was such a nice convenience! The space is well kept and the host was easy to communicate with. I will definitely be recommending this spot to my friends and hope to stay again!

The site is exactly as lovely as the listing describes. The hosts are kind and helpful and the site is spotless with every amenity in top quality. The area lost power due to bad weather and the hosts were helpful with outage updates and site fixes that were electric company related. The camp was private, scenic, and convenient. The drive into the city was quick and easy. Our stay over a winter holiday was perfect and we were so glad we picked this site to make us comfortable for winter camping.

We had a wonderful stay at this camper site. It was peaceful, clean, and incredibly relaxing—exactly what we were looking for. The extra amenities really made the experience special. The location was perfect for what I was looking for. Very quiet and secluded. I went on Christmas Day, which was really nice because being winter I could see through all the trees and I had a 360° view of the mountains around us. Several good spots to pitch multiple tents, and just a great spot overall. Highly recommend

Easy to find, wide open space with a horizon view full of mountains! Beautiful sunset, great stargazing opportunities and an established firepit. Lots of room for parking, huge wood built deck for tents or chilling out. This was right off the road but not a lot of traffic or noise. There was 2 “outhouse “ structures but not potty usable ( unless I am a moron and didn’t know how to use them) but they both faced the trees so at least there was partial coverage.

This was my first-ever Hipcamp stay, and even though the weather was freezing, I absolutely loved it. The site is beautiful, private, and extremely well cared for. Everything was spotlessly clean, and having plenty of firewood and kindling provided was such a welcome touch on cold nights. Even in the cold, I was still able to enjoy the outdoor shower and hot tub, which made the stay feel extra special. The stargazing was amazing — dark skies, quiet surroundings, and total peace. The host’s communication was superb from start to finish — clear, responsive, and genuinely thoughtful, which made my first Hipcamp experience feel easy and stress-free. For those newer to towing like myself, the drive in has a bit of elevation, but it’s manageable and absolutely worth it once you’re settled in. Overall, this was a fantastic introduction to Hipcamp. I felt safe, comfortable, and truly relaxed. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, private, and well-equipped RV spot near Asheville.
