On the morning of Sat.Nov 22, 2025, the Farm will host a 5K Perimeter trail run/walk, with Campsite 1 as the finish line. Therefore, it is closed for camping on the 21. Sites 2 and 3* will remain open, but please note there will be extra people in the waterfront area on the morning of Nov 22 until 11am.

The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has been set up as conservation easement protected land in '23. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks.
Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations.
Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us.
*Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. This makes the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing.

Gator Creek, a secluded natural getaway located near Alligator River on Little Alligator Creek. This is a quiet property surrounded by wetlands and state hunting preserves-perfect for campers who love true wilderness.
Fishing is available all around the area ,and the creek can be reached with a short walk through the woods or by going down the road. There is no clear-cut trail, as I keep the land as natural as possible. A public boat ramp is within walking distance.
With minimal light pollution, Gator Creek offers excellent stargazing and a peaceful wildlife-rich environment. You may spot dragonflies, birds, squirrels ,bears and more, though wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

Another wonderful trip in the books at Spruill. We brought a hot tent this stay and Site 1 was just perfect for our Christmas camping trip! It was such a peaceful break from the usual holiday hustle and bustle. With the cooler temperatures, it was a wonderful convenience to have the port-a-potty and firewood close by. The sunsets, of course, did not disappoint and it was such a treat to experience the differences in nature here during the off season. Can't wait for our next stay!

I did a one night primitive camp at Joyce's land. It is near gamelands but was mostly quiet, especially after dark. I slept well and if I had stayed longer, I would have done more fishing! Thanks for the hospitality!

Gator Creek was a perfect place to get away from everything for a night. Joyce's land is well-cleared and accommodating for whatever flavor of camping you're there for. It was the ideal distance to be close enough to civilization, yet quiet and private enough to feel at home in the woods for a night. Joyce was very responsive and kind, answering all questions we had promptly. We would be happy to stay there again!

Joyce was very kind and allowed me to set up near the fire pit and outside toilet. The near by water area was pretty, especially at sunset. This is a great place for anyone who wants to be in solitude and stick to the campsite. Except for the local hunters who briefly set off some rounds in the day time, it was incredibly quiet. The site is in a very small rural community with only a single convenient store, but there are no shops or local entertainment. Would recommend for anyone into having a complete wilderness experience.

Hands down one of the best hidden gems on the way to OBX. Their dog Fischer greeted us immediately, such a friendly pup, and friendly host/family. The lot is spacious, and the ponds are magical. We spent one night and honestly wish we would have been able to spend more time there! We will be back for sure. Thanks again

We had the pleasure of staying here in the beginning of November. It’s a very scenic spot by several ponds and surrounded by forest. They had even just put in an electrical hookup for us to use. Abegail was a very responsive hostess and her husband even lent me his fishing rod to use. I probably would have caught something if my dog hadn’t thought it was some kind of fetch game lol. Lots of room for my pets to roam about and I had a couple great fires while I was there. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back someday!

What an amazing campsite! Stunning views over the Albemarle, well-marked nature trails, birdsong. Hawks over the fields during the day, barred owls at night! Very quiet, even with other campers on the property. Virtually no bugs (thank you November!) Julia and Lincoln are awesome hosts, easy to reach and very communicative.

I had a good night at Evan's Farm made even better by the fact I was the only camper. Spoke to the owner who was very nice. The fishing was good and the night sky was great. Pretty quiet place which is just what I was looking for. Would definitely come back.

We had a great time camping at the farm. Being on the water was amazing. We did car camping and got to see sunset and sunrise as well as kayak. The porta potty was very very clean and there is plenty of stocked up fire wood for fires sold at a fair price. We hope to come back one day!

I had an awesome solo weekend getaway. Put simply the area was very private, you’re right next to the water, and you can mentally getaway. I had the pleasure of running into the owner (by accident on the way out, shout out to Julia) and she let me know of the walking trails that were around the property. Super sweet lady and she really cares about your experience. Just book it already and have a good time! I’ll be going back this winter!

I’m a solo female traveler, and safety is very important to me. I did car camping on Julia’s land, and it was such an amazing experience. You get the beauty of the farm, as well as a waterfront view on the campsite. I fell asleep to the sound of owl calls, and I woke up to the soft crashing of the waves.
There are clearly marked trails throughout a wooded section of the property with pretty views of the water. I walked the trails before breakfast, and went for a swim in the sound before I left. It was a really peaceful space where I felt completely immersed in nature. I’m planning my trip back already.

I love the seclusion of the campsites. There are only 3 and they are spaced apart for privacy. I also like that there are 2 port a potties! The only thing was ours was smelling something terrible when we were down wind of it. It obviously hadn't been dumped before we go there. The site itself is great, lots of trees, right on the water and a small sandy beach to walk on. I would live there if I could! Julia has made sure you had what you needed to have a great time. Large fire pit with benches all around and cleaning brushes to clean the top of the grate. Don't worry about water, there is an old hand pump for your water needs, to wash your hands, NOT to drink! If you like to explore there are trails in the woods that you can explore. I always feel very safe there as the gate to the property stays locked. It is the best campsite I have discovered so far.
