3 nights at Honeysuckle Springs Smoky Mountains

Pros- This place is peaceful. The view was mesmerizing. We really enjoy the pop up camper. The hosts were super responsive. They provided us with everything we needed to get to the site. The best part is that they have WIFI. Cons- Camp sites were way too close to each other. It was hard for us to turn on our music enough for all us to hear. All of our concentration was focused on trying to not be too loud. Since we didn’t want to disturb our neighboring sites. For those of you, who like the idea of Meet and Greet while enjoying the beautiful nature view, then this place is for you. The bathroom was super clean. It was good opportunity to get few steps in lol. But it was a little far to walk down in the middle of the night.

Weekend Trip to Appalachian Pond Campground

Although I only stayed one evening, I absolutely loved my spot at site #3 (actually #4). Motorcycle camping, coming from Florida this was just beautiful site on a hillside with a small creek below and hsd a sunset view of the mountains. John was able to go out and pick up some firewood for me, which was amazing. Extremely friendly and wholesome people, I would be happy to visit again. The gravel road up to the tent sites is a bit steep, but I had no issue traversing it on my street bike with saddle bags in the dry environment. Thank you again, guys!

1 night at Gateway to the Smokies

We stayed here on a trip to the Smokey’s. The land is well kept, private, and only a few minutes from the park. The highway is nearby so you’ll get the vehicle noise and lights from businesses. This will likely lessen during full foliage but never be absent. Either way we prefer the feeling of our own camp site rather than large campgrounds which this provided and we all slept fine.

Great location right by a flowing stream. I thought the highway right next door would be too loud but the water drowned out almost all of the noise. The site is great! The lights from the Dollar General across the road were pretty bright but I would imagine in the summer and fall that won’t be a problem.

This is my second time coming here. We absolutely love Kimber and her animals. Her donkey Abby is my favorite, she yells at us over the fence when she sees me demanding pets and will follow me around like a dog. I will always stop back anytime we are in Tennessee.

Did some car camping and my friends were tent camping, overall we enjoyed the property. Plenty of woods to collect dead wood from for fires and a nice cold creek at the bottom of the hill to soak your feet in and relax. Not far from the Smoky Mountains and a quick drive to all the nearby towns.

Very pretty sure with a stream flowing at the bottom of the camping area. The upper site, Peace Park, is a bit hard to level but managed it. The showers and actual flush toilets were much appreciated.

Won't be long until this is a a top HipCamp in North Carolina. I've done 8-10 mile hikes where the pinnacle was not as rewarding as Cherokee Waterfall campground. Richard is a superb host: thorough and communicative yet left us our space on arrival, I got the feeling he understands why folks choose this style of camping... solitude and peace in nature! Plus he delivered dry firewood for a fair price. Full hook-ups on a level site / flushing toilet and hot shower /fire pit / privacy with a locked gate at the entrance. We'll be back!

What a delight! John, Judah and family have made this property so wonderful to unwind in a serene setting. The supplied bathrooms were spacious with great temp/pressure. Judah was so helpful with recommendations and a generous fire bundle of only 7 bucks. We were by the very little creek ,but up on the hill the views were beautiful. We’d love to stay up there next time. If you want to be out of the hustle of tourism, but still accessible to this side of the park, this is great and the family earns it!

Quiet Troublesome Gap

My parents bought the 120 acre property in the 1960s. I started clearing and building the campsite in 2019. Watch the sun rise on one side of Troublesome Gap and watch it set on the other side. There is a circle drive for 2 teardrop / squaredrop or pop up campers and plenty of spots to pitch tents. There are also great spots to hang your hammock. Camp where my family camps. My parents bought the property in the 1960s and we have camped up here, hiked, hunted, and cut firewood many weekends. We decided to share the property so you can enjoy camping up here too! The property is in a remote location where you can enjoy the wildlife and the cooler temps in the summer. You'll have 3 acres all to yourself. You wont have to share the spot with anyone else unless you bring them. The closest grocery store is an hour away but the Trust General Store with a restaurant and gas approximately is 7 miles away. There is also a burger joint (Dave's 209) on the way to the Trust General Store. This camping site is in a remote area and the nearest neighbor about 1/2 mile away. Max Patch is about 25 minutes away and features beautiful hiking. The quaint town of Marshall is about 30 minutes away. Asheville is about an hour away. The campsite is easily accessible from Baltimore Branch Road. However Baltimore Brand Road (public road) is steep in places and we don't recommend an RV bigger than a popup camper. If you are pulling a trailer you'll really want to consider having 4wd. If you aren't used to driving on steep dirt mountain roads, you may want to bring your 4wd vehicle. If you have a 2wd vehicle, then you'll want to come to the site via Big Pine Road. This route will take you through Walnut, NC We also provide a porta-a-john for your convenience. Once the reservation is made, I'll send out an info sheet with important info like the gate combination. Please let me know if you haven't received the info sheet within a week of making the reservation. The inclusion policy below is from HipCamp corporate. Our policy is much simpler. Be respectful to others and the property and have a good time. This is a campsite where have the whole 3.5 acre property to yourself. You are surrounded by properties that vary from 40 acres to over a hundred acres. You are with the people in your campsite and pretty much no one else. We just want you to have a great time and bring home great stories. It seems like every visitor to Troublesome Gap has a great story. Come camp with us and build your own story. Important Note: Water is only available on the site from May through September. If you camp on the site Oct through April, you'll need to bring your own water. There is a camera on the property. It faces the gate (and away from the campsite). The camera is mounted on the apple tree.

Rowdy Bear Highlights: • 12ft glass panel door that opens the cabin to nature • Queen Tempurpedic bed • Rain Captured Shower • Fire Pit The Space: The Rowdy Bear is an Off-Grid Cabin that is situated in the Great Smoky Mountains with easy access to both Bryson City and Franklin. The cabin itself was built using rough sawn wood acquired from a local sawmill. Many of the items used in the cabin came from local shops or antique stores. There is a 2000-watt Solar Generator in the cabin that can be used for lights, charging cell phones, and running the pump for the shower. The Solar Panels are enough to charge the Generator to 100% each day. Rainwater is used for showers. The gutter system on the cabin is used to catch rainwater. The downspout runs into a "First Flush Diverter", which allows any dust, dirt, or anything else that might land on the roof between the rainstorms to be diverted away from the water storage tank. The clean rainwater then fills the water storage tank. Be aware that Rainwater is fine for showers, but is not meant for drinking. Propane is connected to a space heater and the shower. The space heater is 17,000 BTUs, which is plenty for colder nights. The shower has an at-source water heater and can heat the water up to 120 degrees, which is more than enough for a hot shower. A porta potty is provided for bathroom purposes and is cleaned and restocked every Thursday. Pets are allowed! The following items are provided: 1. Linens 2. Towels 3. There is plenty of room for the fire pit, vehicles, animals, and any outdoor games you might want to bring (cornhole). Both Bryson City and Franklin are fairly close to the cabin. Bryson City is approximately 20 minutes away, while Franklin is approximately 30 minutes away. Both towns offer great little downtown areas that have shopping and restaurants. Don't be afraid to try the food trucks, they have some of the best food. Bryson City has many trails for hiking such as the Road to nowhere, Noland Divide Trail, Three Waterfalls Loop (FYI: There are three waterfalls on this trail), and Deep Creek Waterfall Loop. The fishing in Bryson City is also great and the guided trips are very reasonably priced. I would suggest going in the morning and doing a float trip. Franklin is bigger and a little more spread out than Bryson city, but there are a lot of neat little stores and restaurants. I personally like going to the Currahee Brewing Company. Currahee is right on the river and is set up to host live bands and it gets pretty lively in the late afternoons and evenings on the weekends. Other things to note One of the things you would want to bring is a 1 lb propane bottle for the Torch that is provided. Using the torch to start a fire is much easier than kindling. The solar generator has enough power to run the small coffee pot if you don't want to use the percolator. The generator also has enough power to run hair dryers. The main thing you want to keep in mind is anything that uses a heating element will drain the battery quickly. Lanterns are provided If needed. Overall, you should be good to go, but it is something to keep in mind.

The winter months you'll enjoy a sea of green as our cover crop takes over the field. You can cool off in the river or check out the surrounding Pisgah National Forest. Dogs on leashes are welcome and owner is responsible for cleaning up after pet. The farm provides a portable toilet but no other amenities. Campfires may be restricted, so check local regulations. We're 2.5 miles from the Cherokee Casino and 3.5 miles from down town Cherokee If you're tired of crowded campgrounds then you'll love the privacy this campground offers. This is now a two site campground with each site being around 100' away from the other site with trees and vegetation growing in between, you more or less cant see on site from the other from May until November. There is a orange cone that marks the border of the two sites. One set of campers will not be allowed on the other campers campsite, if this happens you will be evicted with no refund. Check in is at 2pm and check out is at 12pm. No shooting firearms, (although you may hear people shooting firearms because you will be camping in the mountains) but your more than welcome to bring your firearms. Its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. No fireworks. No making trails or collecting firewood (This is not because I want to sell you firewood, its because I want to have the property remain as pristine as possible) Do not cut down trees alive or dead If you move picnic tables please move them back Dogs are permitted but message me first to see if your do will be a good fit. There is a small Church around 200 yards from the campground. They hold services every Wednesday and Sunday. They generally start around 5pm and it lasts around a hour. This home was built in 2019 by an expert craftsman with the vision of making it cozy and spacious with sweet artistic details and lots of care and love. The home is 300 sq feet but feels much more grand inside. You will be nestled on 14 pristine acres of forest, with two decks, your own personal private hot tub, and a spring fed creek not too far down the driveway. There is a gas fireplace outdoors on the porch, and an outdoor fire pit for your use as well. The house has a queen size bed in the upper loft, a large twin day bed on the first level, and an extra loft with camping mats if needed above the day bed. The house can comfortably sleep 3 and up to 4 or 5 especially if a couple of them are children or petite people. The house has a full kitchen and bathroom, living room area and two lofts. For now there is a composting toilet that is easy to maintain and we are happy to help you with it if you’re on the land for more than a few days. The main house is about 30 yards up the hill, and although somewhat close, you will have plenty of privacy. We are close if you need us, but we try to give all of our guests ultimate privacy. The house is under a huge magnolia tree, so it stays shaded in the summer and quite cool. There is an AC unit and heaters in the house as well. There is a personal hot tub, which is screened in, and located on the front deck of the house now. You will love it! There is a back deck that is only for meditation, yoga, and bird watching, and we ask that folks stay silent on the back deck if they use it. Pets are welcome at an extra charge of $40 a night. If anything is needed down at the house we are available. Much of the time there is a massage therapist on site, so if you are interested in getting Bodywork please just inquire about prices and availability. There is also a wood-fired sauna on the property, so if you would like to sauna please let us know. And an added bonus is that you are only 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and LOTS of great hiking, great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, art galleries and more. Asheville is 15 minutes from the tiny cabin and Weaverville is 10 minutes away. On any given day you might see a family a deer, turkeys or bears in the front yard. There is a spring fed creek on the edge of the property you are welcome to soak your feet in, and there is incredible hiking just a few miles away. You are welcome to explore the 13 acres of property as well that the home is located on. This is not a place for parties. Our neighbors are about 200 yards down the hill so we try to respect their privacy and keep it quiet. That is why we have made the back deck a retreat/silent deck. Maximum of 4 guests.

Maggie Valley is a cozy North Carolina mountain town that sits on the banks of Jonathan Creek. It’s 10 minutes from the Cataloochee Ski Area and makes an ideal basecamp for exploring the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway. Maggie Valley is close to hiking trails, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting. It also borders the Nantahala National Forest, where hundreds of miles of trails let you explore waterfalls, lakes, and old-growth trees. At 3,000 feet elevation, Maggie Valley is accessible year-round. The deciduous trees surrounding Maggie Valley put an an astonishing fall foliage display of golds, reds, and oranges each autumn

Maggie Valley Area

Ten minutes from Maggie Valley is Soco Falls, an iconic double waterfall. The three mile section of Jonathan Creek that passes through town is designated Mountain Heritage Trout Water. There are multiple creekside RV parks and RV resorts with full hookups and wifi, as well as mountain cabins with hot tubs and glamping sites in this area. If you aren’t satisfied with your options in the Maggie Valley area, checkout nearby Waynesville or Asheville.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Maggie Valley is just below the Great Smoky Mountain National Park’s Balsam Mountain area. At 5,130 feet, the Balsam Mountain Campground has sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and mountain views. If you enter the center of the park on Route 441, you’ll intercept numerous hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail and the approach road to Clingman’s Dome. There are beautiful hikes to waterfalls and lookouts throughout the park, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot its famous fog or black bear residents. The park’s central campsites have excellent RV camping and tent camping, but book early for these popular spots.

Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway bisects Route 19 a few miles west of Maggie Valley. This scenic byway starts at nearby Cherokee and travels a whopping 469 miles to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. The Parkway traces the ridge-line of the Blue Ridge Mountains in a winding course with incredible views. There are multiple overlooks and spur-trails for hiking along the Parkway. It’s also a popular road ride for cyclists. The Waterrock Knob Visitor Center is a local highlight with great sunrise and sunset views.

When to go

Maggie Valley is a fun getaway year-round. Summer has the best temps and the most sunlight, fall has peak foliage, winter is ski season, and spring has powerful waterfalls and the least crowds. The summer is the busy season in this area, so book well in advance. Winter visitors should also be prepared for road conditions with snow and ice.
