Weekend Trip to Stargazing Huts

I absolutely loved my stay at the Stargazing Hilltop Hut. Mitchell is a very responsive host and you can tell a lot or detail and care went/goes into the making of this magical little place. There is electricity, heating/fans, a fully functioning sink and single burner stove with anything you could need to prepare food as well as a shower. We loved making a little campfire with the firewood provided by the host. As well as some more things to do around the property such as axe throwing and even a little kitty came to visit us and hang out in the hut for a bit (absolutely LOVE cats so this was awesome). 10/10 would recommend this place to anybody looking for a private woodland retreat and a more upscale camping vibe if you find yourself near the Smoky Mountains!!

4 nights at Stargazing Huts

This is one of those rare places where it feels like the host has truly thought of everything. There was a heat lamp in the (hot) shower to keep you warm when you’re done, dry firewood provided, all the dishes we needed, and of course fresh eggs! We brought our own camp chairs, hatchet, lighter, hammocks, etc. but didn’t need them because it was all there for us. If you’re looking for a charming night under the stars… this is a great spot.

We loved how quaint and thoughtful the hut was. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we could not see many stars, but instead played with the games provided in the comfort of the heated hut. The outside gas stove worked well for our needs and the fresh eggs were a welcome treat.

Weekend Trip to Contrast Cove Glamping Dome

Ravi has a beautiful lot with excellent views. The dome was super clean with all the amenities you could ask for. We didn't leave the entire weekend. Just bring groceries. There is a nice wall unit that keeps the temp comfortable, PLUS an extra heater and fan. I'd definitely return.

5 nights at Contrast Cove Glamping Dome

We stayed in the Contrast Cove dome in Hartford, Tennessee for 5 nights for NYE and after with our three boys (5, 5, and 7) and had a fabulous time! Our friends rented the dome next to it (Forest Fairy) for a few days and it was great to have everyone so close. I will start with my favorite part of the dome - the view! It was AMAZING. You can see mountains for miles. We even got snow so looking out to the snow cap mountains was very surreal for this southern girl. You do have a neighbor but we couldn’t even see the house and never heard anyone. We felt very secluded and the privacy was very nice. The dome itself was very cozy. We had snow and I believe one night it dropped down to 17 degrees but it was always nice and warm inside. There are heated blankets you can use as well. The kitchen had everything we needed and the induction stove, fridge, and dishwasher really made it beyond a “glamping” experience. The shower was always nice, clean and warm. There was plenty of storage as well. The enormous deck was perfect for our boys to run around and play. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub and the fire pit on the deck. We made two trips to Gatlinburg while at the dome and it was pretty close. It was about 50 minutes away and pretty convenient to the dome’s location. Ravi, the host, quickly responded and helped with anything we needed throughout the trip. We will absolutely stay here again. Our boys called it “the igloo” and said they wanted to stay a million days. <3

2 nights at Private Glamper/HOT TUB/MNTN VIEWS

For my birthday this year my boyfriend & I were going to go primitive camping 1 hour from where we live. Spots were filling quick so I browsed online for hours. I accidentally came across this listing & fell in love instantly. My 1 hour away camping trip with no running water or power quickly turned into a 3.5 hour away camping trip with a camper, hot tub, mountain views & ALL the fancy necessities a house provides. After my boyfriend & I both had a super tough week, I surprised my boyfriend with this upgraded camping trip & little did I know it fit right into his plan. I got to say "Yes" to my boyfriend right by the bonfire pit, surrounded by the mountains, & a sky full of stars. About the site: I don't feel like the listing photos really give the site justice. I arrived late after the sun went down & so the mountain view the next morning blew us away. It is absolutely breathtaking. My time spent here couldnt have been spent any better. My boyfriend & I checked in as a couple dating, & checked out as engaged. I hope to get to continue to come back to this same spot as its now our special place. I was able to make so many irreplaceable memories here & got to spend quality time with the person I love & I could never be more thankful for coming across this site & having this opportunity. ♡ If you're reading my review to see if you should book it, I hope you do. & if you do, I hope it brings just as many smiles, laughs and comfort as it brought us. Overview

Maggie Valley is a cozy North Carolina mountain town that sits on the banks of Jonathan Creek. It’s 10 minutes from the Cataloochee Ski Area and makes an ideal basecamp for exploring the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Blue Ridge Parkway. Maggie Valley is close to hiking trails, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting. It also borders the Nantahala National Forest, where hundreds of miles of trails let you explore waterfalls, lakes, and old-growth trees. At 3,000 feet elevation, Maggie Valley is accessible year-round. The deciduous trees surrounding Maggie Valley put an an astonishing fall foliage display of golds, reds, and oranges each autumn

Where to go

Maggie Valley Area

Ten minutes from Maggie Valley is Soco Falls, an iconic double waterfall. The three mile section of Jonathan Creek that passes through town is designated Mountain Heritage Trout Water. There are multiple creekside RV parks and RV resorts with full hookups and wifi, as well as mountain cabins with hot tubs and glamping sites in this area. If you aren’t satisfied with your options in the Maggie Valley area, checkout nearby Waynesville or Asheville.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Maggie Valley is just below the Great Smoky Mountain National Park’s Balsam Mountain area. At 5,130 feet, the Balsam Mountain Campground has sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and mountain views. If you enter the center of the park on Route 441, you’ll intercept numerous hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail and the approach road to Clingman’s Dome. There are beautiful hikes to waterfalls and lookouts throughout the park, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot its famous fog or black bear residents. The park’s central campsites have excellent RV camping and tent camping, but book early for these popular spots.

Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway bisects Route 19 a few miles west of Maggie Valley. This scenic byway starts at nearby Cherokee and travels a whopping 469 miles to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. The Parkway traces the ridge-line of the Blue Ridge Mountains in a winding course with incredible views. There are multiple overlooks and spur-trails for hiking along the Parkway. It’s also a popular road ride for cyclists. The Waterrock Knob Visitor Center is a local highlight with great sunrise and sunset views.

When to go

Maggie Valley is a fun getaway year-round. Summer has the best temps and the most sunlight, fall has peak foliage, winter is ski season, and spring has powerful waterfalls and the least crowds. The summer is the busy season in this area, so book well in advance. Winter visitors should also be prepared for road conditions with snow and ice.
