Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

The south side of the ridge has a small pond close to the road. The rest is pasture, and an orchard and small vineyard. The north side of the ridge is old growth timber, and shady and cool. The two cabins are along the river. One is perched on a ridge over looking the river and the other is right on the river. The swimming hole is 30 feet from the lower cabin. There is room for a couple campsites along the river also. The south side of the ridge was a cotton farm decades ago, but was covered in timber when I bought it 12 years ago. The north side has been in timber for the known history of the property.

My Neighbor has started his own Campsite, "The Swimming Hole". If mine is booked up and you still want to camp, look him up. His is better suited for small groups but has much more privacy. We have a new road to the campsite; you can now drive down with two-wheel drive vehicle or RV down and park near your tent! There is plenty of soft sand to set up one tent or ten tents; large groups are welcome for an extra fee. A Porta-Potty is available at the campsite. Swimming is usually possible at the base of the falls; however, large amounts of rain can change conditions and make it unusable. I should also add, this is not a completely private campsite deep in the woods. The camp is visible from a shared driveway, and my residence is up a hill that overlooks the area. Also, I do not own the land on the other side of the stream. Occasionally, the owners of that land will spend a weekend afternoon enjoying the waterfall view also. Still much quieter and more private than a regular campground. Glamping tents and additional camping tents are available through a local company. Look in the pictures for the tent with red, white, and blue balloons. Message me for details. Close to US National Whitewater Center (mountain biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking), Kings Mountain National Military Park (Horseback riding and history), Crowders Mountain (Hiking), 3 miles off of I-85 and US-321 for people passing through.

Each site is expansive, with large areas to spread out and enjoy the views or play yard games. You must travel to Clarks Creek through Valle Crucis via 194. You must also detach any trailer or towed items a mile or so before the camp spot and before the switchbacks. Please view the map and be comfortable with travel to our campsite. There are sections of the road with no shoulder and pit holes due to current construction/road work. There is very limited cellular service in this area. WiFi & WiFi calling should work fine. --- We have a 50 AMP Hookup NO water NO septic. If you have 2 cars, trucks or RVs in the same group you may add them on as another unit. Grandfather Mountain Campground on 105 allows non-guests to use their dump station for a fee. The trash/convenience center is about 2 miles away on 194 for you to take your garbage. Take the trash there before hooking up and leaving as that section of 194 has a large truck warning.

You must travel to Clarks Creek through Valle Crucis via 194. You must also detach any trailer or towed items a mile or so before the camp spot and before the switchbacks. Please view the map and be comfortable with travel to our campsite. There are sections of the road with no shoulder and pit holes due to current construction/road work. There is very limited cellular service in this area. WiFi & WiFi calling should work fine. --- We have a 50 AMP Hookup NO water NO septic. If you have 2 cars, trucks or RVs in the same group you may add them on as another unit. Grandfather Mountain Campground on 105 allows non-guests to use their dump station for a fee. The trash/convenience center is about 2 miles away on 194 for you to take your garbage. Take the trash there before hooking up and leaving as that section of 194 has a large truck warning.

Neal Creek Primitive camping by the creek is located on private property. The two large campsites are approximately 300 feet apart and are located right beside the running creek. Plenty of shaded area's. We have a 6-8 person tent available to rent as well! Learn more about this land: We are only 1/2 a mile from the Interstate 85. So bring your tents, campers or your small RV and come and setup down by the babbling creek. If you don't have or own a tent, we have a large 6-8 person tent available for a small rental fee too. Gusher Knob is a 220+ acre forested mountain near Spruce Pine, NC. One of the campsites has a 12 x 12 raised platform for your tent (we don't recommend pitching a tent anywhere other than the platform), picnic table, fire pit, and a hook to hold a lantern. This first campsite on the property has a spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A second campsite is more primitive (no picnic table or platform yet) is in a forested section with access to the Toe River. It is available now, but improvements are planned such as building a platform, adding a picnic bench and expanding the current fire pit. Please stay on the trails and the campsite areas as the surrounding land is private and monitored. Cell coverage is ok. Nearby hiking, climbing, and fly fishing are a few activities you will enjoy when visiting this lovely area of western NC. One campsite is a short 7-minute easy hike along a well-marked clear trail from the parking spot. The trail is non-technical and will mostly accommodate camping gear with wheels, such as a cooler. The other campsite takes a little longer hike to reach (10-minutes). Since it's situated in the woods, please be aware that you may encounter any number of nature's residents such as deer, squirrels, box turtles, wild turkeys, and bears. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! Super unique little yurt camp out in the NC Blue Ridge. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an easy glamping experience that's a very affordable way to stay in the area really nearby Little Switzerland, Linville, Grandfather mountain, etc..The property itself still feels remote as it is situated on the side of a nearby mountain. That being said, be prepared to drive carefully on the property, especially if you have a smaller car, as the drive is a bit rugged. Very doable even in our little hybrid 2 seater, but take your time in inclement weather (even in early December, we still had a lovely time, and enjoyed the tranquility). Would totally return if we come back through the area!

I also really liked how spaced out the sites were. You didn’t feel like you were on top of the other campers, it felt like you had reasonable privacy. Would stay again.

My family and I loved this glamping experience! The yurt was spacious and cozy, and the beds were super comfortable and it was easy to find/navigate to. The space had all the amenities and supplies you need on site, which made packing a breeze. We enjoyed sitting around the fire and stargazing, the mountain views from the deck, and playing the games provided. Would definitely recommend this experience!

Weekend Trip to Adin`s river cabin

If you're looking for fancy, bells and whistles this isn't for you. If you're looking for privacy, peace and serenity in a rustic cabin then you found it. The cabin is small but cozy. The cabin does have hot water, but only for a couple minutes. It has a decent size sink in the kitchen. The bathroom is tiny and not for the costraphibic, but it's nice having something indoors. There also an outhouse. Adin offers heat for an extra fee if you ask. We didn't use it, it was chilly at night, but still warmer than tent camping. The rd to the cabin in narrow and a little steep, but we made it in and out with two wheel drive. The property terrain itself is pretty rugged and steep(sometimes slippery) with cliffs. I would say younger children need good supervision venturing if you bring them and it wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues. If you have children I would bring a baby gate for the upstairs loft, as it's an open entrance and exit at the ladder stairs, which are steep. Room for extra tents in site. There's tons of deck space here with three decks and amazing views from the top. The sounds of the rapids and the frogs are so serene. The river is beautiful and clear with plenty of room. There's also some trails on the property. Sadly you can see some of the damage caused by flooding from the hurricane. Our little family enjoyed our stay here. Adin and his wife were kind and helpful. What a blessing to own a beautiful piece of paradise. Thank you for sharing it.

My family & I loved Adin’s cabin. It was perfect for us to escape the fast city life for the weekend. We walked the creek bank, searched for worms, tried fishing.. but had no luck. Mr. Adin said Helene had taken most of the fish. The water was crystal clear, & the sound of the water moving had me mesmerized. My friends and I LOVED this camp site! The land was beautiful and we enjoyed waking up by the lovely creek. Dianne was incredibly helpful and nice. In short, we had a blast.
