Loved tent camping with such a gorgeous view. Well marked path to the site. Very close to Linville Falls Winery and a Dollar General if you forgot anything last minute. Weather was warm windy and clear. Excellent view of the stars at night. Heard turkeys and coyotes early in the morning. Would love to come back when not under a burn ban to enjoy a campfire.

I loved camping here! The platform was such a luxury and the view was truly beautiful. The walk to the site was slightly strenuous carrying all of our stuff since it was all uphill, but it was truly worth it. 100% would recommend!

We loved our stay! William has a beautiful campsite and beautiful property that he let us explore. We saw wild deer, wild geese, and signs of some bobcats, even got to hear a pack of coyotes each night! We felt incredibly safe and it was a very private area. We met one of the neighbors when unloading our gear who was incredibly helpful and nice, and everyone we drove by waved as well so it was a nice welcoming stay which was one of our concerns when coming from 6 hours away. Our car was safe the entire time and no signs of anyone messing with anything around it which is a huge plus! The sunrise and sunset are beautiful, especially with a mountain backdrop, and the drive up there was also nice. We stopped at one of the overlooks about 20-30 minutes away from the site and just took in the scenery. The hike has some pretty steep parts. We made 4 full trips with gear, food, and wood. I feel like some of the other reviews don’t touch on it as much, but with just two of us it absolutely wore us out. I believe we took 4 breaks along the trail (even though it’s a fairly short hike) just because of the elevation and how steep it was in some parts. While we are both 5-6 days a week in the gym, carrying everything was still a challenge that we will not forget. Very thankful there were two of us. William let us explore the side trails but remember to still ask for permission for yourself as this is still someone else’s property and should be treated as such. Thank you again William!!

Nice and secluded. Evening sky looking over the mountains was beautiful. Be prepared for a couple small hills on the trail in but well worth it.

Super super secluded. The wooden platform was very nice. Picnic table was cute and great for cooking! The description said the walk was an easy 7 min walk, but be prepared to be OUT OF BREATH lol. Very hill-y but also very scenic. Overall really great place!!

Beautiful location, the camping platform easily large enough for tent and the hike to the top is both short enough that you can lug gear in your hands and long enough to be away from everything except occasional vehicle noise. Lots of woods to explore and minimal undergrowth to get in the way. Will probably go back in the spring.

Beautiful views. Very private and peaceful. I highly recommend this spot. Bring a wagon and another person to help you maneuver it. There's a few caves. Follow the orange blazes to hike down to the river

This site really is great. It was perfect for a couple. The hike up is ok with a cart. Good cardio. It gets dark, so the star gazing is good. There’s just enough of a clearing in the canopy at the fire pit to see stars. 10/10 would recommend.

Very private and secluded. 7 minute hike to campsite is a little over half a mile round trip so definitely be prepared to haul some stuff. It was a great campsite would definitely stay again!!

Hummingbird Overlook at Gusher Knob
We had a fantastic experience and would recommend it to anyone looking for a private, well-designed camping spot! The trail is incredibly well-marked with blue ticker tape the entire way, which made it super easy to find even though we arrived at night.
Like others said, it’s a 7 minute uphill walk from the parking spot, which can be a bit cumbersome if you have a lot of gear. That said, it’s totally doable – we were fine. You’ll just want an extra set of hands for some spots, if you’re carrying heavy things like a wheeled cooler etc.
The campsite itself is beautifully laid out and in a stunning location. Though it sits on a gentle slope, the tent platform is perfectly level, and the picnic table, lantern hook, fire pit and hammock spot are thoughtfully placed. Walking around the site is easy, though those with mobility issues might find the incline a bit more challenging. Still, for us, it wasn’t a problem.
The view is gorgeous rolling hills & stars in the distance. The whole site is dappled sunlight through trees/shade, which is a huge plus during hotter weather/rain. There’s a sun patch for a solar panel near the platform, and you can charge while keeping your generator in the shade too. If you want more stars, there’s an open trail where you can see more of the sky. Around the trail there’s also mature rhododendrons which are awesome in full bloom. It’s clear a lot of care has gone into designing this space. We had an amazing time and would definitely return.

Was a fantastic first hipcamp experience! Small family with a toddler and a dog. The hike is short but somewhat steep, and actually was difficult with a wagon. But it may be due to the recent hurricane damage. A great view immediately welcomes you in the morning when you exit the tent. Beautiful. And a kind and responsive owner.

I loved camping here! First hipcamp experience and the view was phenomenal. The view was perfect and we hiked down to the river also. Nearby to Linville Falls and Grandfather Mtn. Short hike from the road to the site, wish we could have stayed another night the weather was so nice!

Williams land is fantastic for a weekend of tent camping. A short hike from the car to the campsite encourages you to leave the queen air mattress and wifi router at home, but the raised platform makes for a premier site with a fantastic view. I would absolutely return to Gusher Knob.

I loved camping at William's land! The trail to the tent site is very well marked (just follow the trail signs and blue ribbons) about a 7 minute hike, not too steep but definitely pack light. The sunsets there were incredible and it was the perfect blend of privacy while being close to everything.

This platform tent site is so beautiful and peaceful! We camped just before hurricane Helene came through so it was very rainy for our trip. So glad I picked a platform! We had a great time nonetheless. The trail up is lovely and not too challenging. I just backpacked in everything for myself and my dog without trouble. William was wonderful to communicate with during our time. We hope this magical land was protected from the storm so we can return in the future!

Absolutely loved the camping spot! It was close enough to towns yet felt very secluded and private like you hiked in for a few miles. Campsite and trail is very well marked. Plan accordingly for items you plan to bring. The trail is short, however it has 1 steep hill. Bring a wagon if you have one, it helps. If you backpack everything in you'll be just fine. We were able to see both the sunrise and sunset, stars were beautiful and bright at night. The view of the mountain was the star of the show. The wooden platform for the tent really was nice. Campsite is very clean and maintained. I highly recommend this spot!!

was a great experience. some of the track to the site is steep so make sure you have everything in a pack or like we did in a pull behind wagon with bigger wheels to make it easier. the site was awsome with a great view. would highly recommend bringing multiple lanterns or something like a couple tiki torches because it gets very dark up there lol. overall, easy getting there and the trail getting up is easy. some parts of the trail could be trimmed down at the entrance but no complaints. highly recommend. we booked on a whim and we are super happy we did.
