When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. This home was built in 2019 by an expert craftsman with the vision of making it cozy and spacious with sweet artistic details and lots of care and love. The home is 300 sq feet but feels much more grand inside. You will be nestled on 14 pristine acres of forest, with two decks, your own personal private hot tub, and a spring fed creek not too far down the driveway. There is a gas fireplace outdoors on the porch, and an outdoor fire pit for your use as well. The house has a queen size bed in the upper loft, a large twin day bed on the first level, and an extra loft with camping mats if needed above the day bed. The house can comfortably sleep 3 and up to 4 or 5 especially if a couple of them are children or petite people. The house has a full kitchen and bathroom, living room area and two lofts. For now there is a composting toilet that is easy to maintain and we are happy to help you with it if you’re on the land for more than a few days. The main house is about 30 yards up the hill, and although somewhat close, you will have plenty of privacy. We are close if you need us, but we try to give all of our guests ultimate privacy. The house is under a huge magnolia tree, so it stays shaded in the summer and quite cool. There is an AC unit and heaters in the house as well. There is a personal hot tub, which is screened in, and located on the front deck of the house now. You will love it! There is a back deck that is only for meditation, yoga, and bird watching, and we ask that folks stay silent on the back deck if they use it. Pets are welcome at an extra charge of $40 a night. If anything is needed down at the house we are available. Much of the time there is a massage therapist on site, so if you are interested in getting Bodywork please just inquire about prices and availability. There is also a wood-fired sauna on the property, so if you would like to sauna please let us know. And an added bonus is that you are only 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and LOTS of great hiking, great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, art galleries and more. Asheville is 15 minutes from the tiny cabin and Weaverville is 10 minutes away. On any given day you might see a family a deer, turkeys or bears in the front yard. There is a spring fed creek on the edge of the property you are welcome to soak your feet in, and there is incredible hiking just a few miles away. You are welcome to explore the 13 acres of property as well that the home is located on. This is not a place for parties. Our neighbors are about 200 yards down the hill so we try to respect their privacy and keep it quiet. That is why we have made the back deck a retreat/silent deck. Maximum of 4 guests.

This 1890's farm was many things in times long ago! It acted as a working Tobacco Farm, a country store and was known to have the purest spring in the region by the indians and mountain men! While this space is not winterized it has some insulation and a propane heater. We traveled as a family of 4 and two dogs and we had a wonderful time at Ocean Blue cabin. Exceptional host and cabin was amazing. We had everything and more to has such a great time. Hiking trail on the property was perfect for our young kids. We took it twice and met friendly cows on top of the hill. Hot tub was a perfect spot for after hike and evening watching the stars! We will definitely come back and bring friends with us!

4 nights at Glamping Domes & A-Frame

The view is the star of the show. Add a hot tub and fire pit and that’s a bonus. Inside is very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen setup was adequate. It could use a toaster/counter top convection oven. The grill outside worked well however. Also the fridge was a good size for the 4 nights we stayed. Google maps ends short of your destination so getting there was a bit confusing. We were lucky Ravi was on sight to escort us. Hopefully better signage will be added. The road is a bit rough but manageable for the last 1/4 mile or so. Again, once there, it’s all about the view and the isolation. Shower was roomy and nice. The bed was huge and comfy. The geo-domes were close but it all felt private enough and our neighbors were quiet. It’s close to the Smokies which was our draw but not much else. Fine by us as we didn’t even leave the premises for a day and a half. Did I mention the view?

Kevin's cabins was well stocked with all the essentials, clean, well furnished, and cozy. Great for couples! The hot tub was clean and warm upon arrival. Fire pit ready for use or cooking food over with the supplied grilling grate and fresh firewood stacked close by. Ocean Blue is a wonderful place to get away from it all for a relaxing stay. Would absolutely recommend to others.

3 nights at A Tiny A-Frame 15 acres creek front

We stayed at the A-frame cabin for three nights and had a great time. The spot is tucked nicely into the woods, far enough from the main road to feel private. There’s a small road off to the right, but the sound of the creek next to the cabin easily masks any passing cars. The place had everything we needed. There’s a full setup for cooking, a fridge and freezer, and a futon. The futon mattress is a little thin though, and you can feel the frame underneath. I brought a tri-fold memory foam topper, which fixed that completely. When the futon is extended, you can fit a twin mattress on the floor beside it, but that’s about the max you’ll get in there comfortably. The outhouse was surprisingly nice, with no strong odor. The whole property feels peaceful and remote, nestled in the western part of North Carolina. The internet handled work calls fine, and if you need faster speeds, the local library in town has solid high-speed access. Everyone we met was friendly. Dennis and Ashley were great hosts and stayed in touch the whole time. We’ll definitely be coming back. It’s the perfect home base for hiking around western North Carolina.

The cabin had pretty much everything you needed to have a good time, and the covered gazebo was nice to eat at and play cards. The road noise can be a little loud at times but it’s peaceful at night with the little creek by the camp. It’s very close to some good hiking!

What a wonderful place to stay! I'm a middle-aged woman with joint pain, and initially I was nervous that the crawl to the bed in the loft would be too much for me, but I figured out how to shuffle along, and by the time I left I was so sad to be going and didn't even feel bothered by the tight maneuvering. I stayed for a week while in town for a work thing. I primarily was there later at night and it was so special. The whole space is so thoughtfully done, the lighting just builds the mood, and there are so many wonderful touches. I used the gas fire pit outside a lot more than I expected, and I loved sitting in the hot tub listening to all of the sounds of nature. I absolutely hope to come back in the future! I didn't get to try the sauna, which hopefully I will be able to do in the future. And Kellie was very helpful throughout the stay with any of the needs I had.

Weekend Trip to Plumtree Campground Tents & Cabins

Plumtree Campground was a great experience for my family. We stayed in the primitive cabin and it was much roomier than the pictures make it look. Also a lovely view of the mountains from our porch. There is a nice little playground that my daughters loved and even a hiking trail on the grounds. On our second night there was live music which made the experience even more special. The owners and managers were wonderfully nice and helpful. It’s a clean environment and very family friendly. We will definitely be going back!

Just an amazing and dreamy little place nestled in the mountain's. My husband and I wanted a way to disconnect for our anniversary and enjoy some peace and quiet without the kids. This was the perfect place!! This little house is so well equipped to make your weekend feel like a private spa getaway and no need for anything more. We didn’t cook while there but well equipped to do so, and everything is thoughtfully provided. There was even a bag of popcorn to pop and some pancake mix if you needed. Really sweet touches. We enjoyed the spa with wonderful views, had a beautiful bathroom to shower up after, relaxed on the deck in the comfy chairs and even took advantage of the his and hers robes which we loved. I highly recommend this place for a get away and hope to return again. The host is top notch in his communication and we really appreciated his guidance on things we were looking for in the area (ie eateries). Thanks for sharing a little peace of your property with us for our special weekend.

Enjoyed the outdoor shower once they turned the water on to it. $100/night after all the annoying taxes and fees are worked in is on the extreme high end for something this small and basic. But it worked for us. Would not have been as enjoyable if the weather wasn't really nice because it's too small to spend much awake time inside. Good place if you're able to sit on the covered porch, which we did. One slightly awkward thing is that the gate that you close when you enter the outdoor shower has gaps that are too large, and anyone walking by could easily look into see you.
