You don't have to be an interpretive dancer (though it's probably recommended) to understand the helpful interpretive signs that describe the six distinct habitats through which the Beaver Pond Nature Trail passes at Higley Flow State Park. Despite the otherwise heavily-wooded and hilly terrain, there is a sandy beach for swimming and plenty of leveled campsites so you won't roll your own little dam down stream. Take advantage of the many amenities this camp has to offer, even for winter visitors (ice fishing, anyone?), but be aware that they do allow hunting during certain peak seasons so be sure to check the calendar and throw the oranges in tow!

Big Moose Lake is 4 miles long and a mile wide at it's widest point. Willow Hill Farm is a family-run working horse farm. We train , teach, board horses, and run a day camp. We had a resident camp for 40 years. We have mountains in our backyard and the Au Sable River with world class fishing bordering our meadow for a half mile. Great swimming there, also! We are 45 minutes from Lake Placid and 30 minutes from Plattsburgh. Montreal and Burlington, VT are a 1.5 hour drive. Lake Champlain is 15 minutes away. Hiking, boating, and swimming are all close, and riding lessons are available on the farm. Most hip camp sites are near where resident campers stayed. There are two sleeping cabins with many bunks. Each has two small rooms where a counselor slept and one large room. There are screened windows with shutters on all sides and screen doors without locks on each end. There are electrical outlets and over head lights in the cabins. We have plans to improve the cabins. Past the cabins is the Green with 4 loose stone firepits. Across from the cabins is the shower house with four hot showers, sink, and toilets. Showers and toilets have closed stalls. Currently, the water system is above ground and will not work in freezing temps. We have installed an outhouse for year round use. All water is from our excellent well. On each side of the former(closed) dining are spots. There are electrical outlets on the outside of the dining hall. People with campers may like to park in the riding arena near the barnyard. There are outlets, but no toilets. Good water is available from the barns. Lovely views of sky and mountains! We also have a beautiful 50 acre field with a household type outlet, but no well. There is an outhouse there. Excellent sky viewing here. This is where we jump and train our horses. Horses may be turned out in this field.

Holly has a great setup boardering state park land with trails that connect. The area has a lot to offer with some great hikes. They have potable water available close to the camp site and a porta potty at the site. If you like animals, they have all sorts of farm friends for you to watch and visit with. It was a wonderful place to stay.

I stayed two nights while exploring the trails and really enjoyed the view over the field with their horses during the day and the stars at night were amazing. This campsite was amazing! We wanted the pond site originally but so happy we went with Knotty Pines. It has everything you want to have when camping. Big pines, view of the stars, and a big fireplace. Not to mention a swing set, picnic tables, and plenty of space. This campsite was BIG! Our host Cara was by far the kindest host we have ever had on our hipcamps. She was so welcoming and down to earth. She’s committed to make sure your experience a good one. Could not have been happier with this site. We absolutely loved it!

I am still not over the views at this campground and never will be 😭😍 my husband and I went on our anniversary trip this past weekend and waking up to the mountains and seeing sunset every day was beyond a dream. Sarah’s horses were so sweet and friendly too, and they even came right up to the fence when we were sitting there one day. And on another note, SHE HAS THE 👏🏻 NICEST 👏🏻 OUTHOUSE 👏🏻🤣 it has a light and is clean as a whistle 😂😂😂😂 in addition, Sarah answered our questions speedily and recommended some hiking spots in the Adirondack Mountains. We stayed at camp site #2 for reference and saw the views in the pics below 😍anybody would enjoy their time at Saddle Hill:)

Weekend Trip to Adirondack Adventure Base

Woodland Grove Camping at Adirondack Adventure Base is such a gem. The property is calm, pristine, and full of charm with cute little trails to wander right on-site. It feels like a perfect mix of peaceful and fun. Bob and Sheila are the kindest, most thoughtful hosts, and it was such a treat getting to spend time with them. Mim is just the coolest human being ever and made the stay even more special. We also got to try their maple syrup, which truly was the best we’ve ever had. The spot is also in an ideal location, just a short drive to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and some of the most beautiful hiking and sightseeing in the Adirondacks. We left already talking about when we’ll come back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable Adirondack stay.

Our family of six had the most amazing time camping at the Black Hole and Dunkley Falls campsite. The tents and accommodations were spotless, comfortable, and far exceeded our expectations. The Fords went above and beyond to make our stay special—bringing us warm water for showers and even surprising me with cupcakes for my birthday. They truly think of everything, making it a completely carefree glamping experience. We loved exploring Dunkley Falls and jumping into the Black Hole, both just a short walk from camp. Beautiful site up in the Adirondacks. The shady areas were a lifesaver in the summer heat. Really enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again

Weekend Trip to Kickin' Up Dust Farm

We loved camping at Hee Haw Haven! My kids loved all of the different animals, play areas, zip line, and camping for the first time. Holly and her husband were so welcoming and generous. They want to return soon (in their minds all camping happens there) and wonder if they can build a portal to get there faster.

2 nights at Black Hole and Dunkley Falls

Amazing! 100% recommend. My son and I went white water rafting nearby and found this amazing site for two nights of camping. Absolutely everything has been thought of and it is clear the owners have invested significantly in making this an idyllic spot. The kitchen area is fully stocked and the tents are extremely spacious. Being able to drive or walk down the road to the Black Hole was a highlight. The owners were kind and hospitable and I would recommend this to anyone. Perfect location for family or friends gathering.

Where to go

Saranac Lake

Just a 25-minute drive away, Saranac Lake forms part of the Tri-Lakes Region along with Tupper Lake. Surrounded by high peaks, the town has a charming downtown lined with galleries and restaurants and the area has plenty of hiking trails and canoe routes. A few miles away, 87 boat-access campsites at Saranac Lake Islands span Middle Saranac Lake and Lower Saranac Lake.

Lake Placid

The third of the lakes that make up the Tri-Lakes Region is Lake Placid, a 40-minute drive from Tupper Lake. A two-time Winter Olympics host, the village is a hub for snowsports, including bobsledding and ski jumping. Nearby, the Adirondack Mountain Club's Wilderness Campground has tent sites, lean-tos, and canvas cabins.

Ausable Chasm

Known as the “Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks,” Ausable Chasm is a two-mile-long gorge that has been carved into the landscape by the Au Sable river. Visitors can hike along roaring rapids and across suspension bridges, or go rafting through the bottom of the canyon. Ausable Chasm is around an hour and a half’s drive from Tupper Lake.

When to go

Warm weather and long days make spring and summer ideal for enjoying the trails and water activities on offer, and are the most popular seasons to visit the Tri-Lakes Region and the Adirondacks generally. Fall offers fewer crowds and golden landscapes. For snowsports enthusiasts, winter is even more appealing with many visitors flocking to Lake Placid to enjoy everything from skiing and bobsledding to snowshoeing and dog sledding.
