As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war. It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well. All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time. During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings. There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest. Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

This off-the-grid tiny house is nestled on a 23 acre parcel at the end of a quarter-mile dirt road. The property itself is secluded but is less than 2 miles from the heart of Saranac Lake's downtown. This property is bordered by the Saranac River, the backside of Baker Mountain and State Forest. The only other building on the property is our timberframe which we may or may not be at during the time of your visit. The property does have private trails up to the cliffs on the backside of Baker mtn however, the Saranac River is down a steep embankment so it does not make for a good place to launch a boat (several public boat launches nearby). My grandfather moved an old ice house under the property in 1943 and built the existing camp in 1949. He was also a talented watercolor painter and his original work is displayed throughout. We are only the third owners and we have been enjoying the cabin since the 80's. In the last 30 years we have introduced some creature comforts (hot/cold water, electricity) while maintaining its original charm. In a time where it is so hard to disconnect from the world, we offer a comfy bed, fresh air, starry nights, a fire and no cell service at the cabin. Learn more about this land: Come, sit back, disconnect and relax in our unique cabin in the Adirondack Park. Our 100-year-old cabin comfortably sleeps seven. There are two small private bedrooms: one with a queen and the second with a full bed. The third room is open to the living room and features a bunk bed. Linens, blankets and towels are provided. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, a full-sized stove, refrigerator, microwave and farmhouse sink with hot and cold running water. The bathroom has a flush toilet, sink and tub with handheld shower. There is a pellet stove (pellets provided) in our kitchen/dining area and a wood stove (wood provided) in the living room. Both bedrooms have thermostat controlled electric heat. The cabin is a true escape: no internet, no telephone and hit or (mostly) miss cell service. There is electricity if you need to recharge a device and there is a great sound system to Bluetooth your tunes. Built by Dr. James Cormier in 1924, our cabin became a summer getaway for his family. He was also an artist and his original watercolors still adorn its walls. We are only the third owners in nearly 100 years and we have been building cherished memories there for decades. We have made improvements to the property while retaining its charm. There is one P/T neighbor who shares our driveway but the property provides privacy. We are adjacent to a NYS Forest Preserve and surrounded by woods. The cabin is a short drive from Lake Placid and Saranac Lake and close to hiking the Adirondacks, canoeing in the St. Regis Canoe Area, close to the Six Nations Indian Museum and an easy drive to the Visitors Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s College. For the water and fishing enthusiast a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk brings you to the North Branch of the Saranac River, Rainbow Lake and Lake Kushaqua. Local fishing, and hunting opportunities abound. The cabin’s location also offers history buffs a chance to explore the impact of tuberculosis sanatoriums which served patients from the big cities in the early 20th century. Sites are available to explore within walking distance and a small museum in Saranac Lake is worth the trip. Lastly, there is a cool antique store within a few miles whose owner is always available for conversation about the area. After a day of ADK fun, you can kick back around the fire ring (outdoor burning wood supplied) and take in the stars. If the weather isn't cooperating, stay in with a good book, play some card/board games or just spend some uninterrupted time with people you care about. As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war. It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well. All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time. During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings. There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest. Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since. The camp was first built in 1905 by Dr. Goldsmith and family. The doctor and his family used the camp for summer vacations. During the winter the camp was rented out as winter hotel for loggers. Ice was harvested from the pond and stored in what is now one of the cabins. When our family bought the place, the hotel was falling down and the buildings were in disrepair. Geoffrey, the family caretaker, has spent the last few years cleaning up the site. All that remains now of the hotel is the chimney while the ice house has become a cabin and has been improved and ready for visitors. We have a double futon, small wood stove and gas burners for a cozy indoor experience. With 840 ft of pond frontage and 4.4 acres you can pitch a tent on the banks of the pond, up in the woods, or stay in the small cabin all are included in the cost of booking! Swimming and boating in the pond is obligatory. Year round fishing has long been a tradition. The spring fed pond is home to large and small mouth bass, northern pike, crappy, and blue gills. There are a number of ponds and state lands nearby. Accommodations include two outhouses and two docks so no waiting. There is a canoe and rowboat available and life jackets. The camp is car accessible Mid-May to the end of September. There are summer cottages across the pond but not much happening on our side. Cedar Lodge, the nearest bar/restaurant, is about 5 minutes away and very popular all year round. The closest gas station and convenience store is about 20 minutes in the village of Parishville.

There are two small private bedrooms: one with a queen and the second with a full bed. The third room is open to the living room and features a bunk bed. Linens, blankets and towels are provided. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, a full-sized stove, refrigerator, microwave and farmhouse sink with hot and cold running water. The bathroom has a flush toilet, sink and tub with handheld shower. There is a pellet stove (pellets provided) in our kitchen/dining area and a wood stove (wood provided) in the living room. Both bedrooms have thermostat controlled electric heat. The cabin is a true escape: no internet, no telephone and hit or (mostly) miss cell service. There is electricity if you need to recharge a device and there is a great sound system to Bluetooth your tunes. Built by Dr. James Cormier in 1924, our cabin became a summer getaway for his family. He was also an artist and his original watercolors still adorn its walls. We are only the third owners in nearly 100 years and we have been building cherished memories there for decades. We have made improvements to the property while retaining its charm. There is one P/T neighbor who shares our driveway but the property provides privacy. We are adjacent to a NYS Forest Preserve and surrounded by woods. The cabin is a short drive from Lake Placid and Saranac Lake and close to hiking the Adirondacks, canoeing in the St. Regis Canoe Area, close to the Six Nations Indian Museum and an easy drive to the Visitors Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s College. For the water and fishing enthusiast a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk brings you to the North Branch of the Saranac River, Rainbow Lake and Lake Kushaqua. Local fishing, and hunting opportunities abound. The cabin’s location also offers history buffs a chance to explore the impact of tuberculosis sanatoriums which served patients from the big cities in the early 20th century. Sites are available to explore within walking distance and a small museum in Saranac Lake is worth the trip. Lastly, there is a cool antique store within a few miles whose owner is always available for conversation about the area. After a day of ADK fun, you can kick back around the fire ring (outdoor burning wood supplied) and take in the stars. In a time where it is so hard to disconnect from the world, we offer a comfy bed, fresh air, starry nights, a fire and no cell service at the cabin. There are two small private bedrooms: one with a queen and the second with a full bed. The third room is open to the living room and features a bunk bed. Linens, blankets and towels are provided. Lastly, there is a cool antique store within a few miles whose owner is always available for conversation about the area. After a day of ADK fun, you can kick back around the fire ring (outdoor burning wood supplied) and take in the stars. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sara & Matt’s cabin! It’s tucked away in the woods and feels private, but it’s still close to downtown Saranac Lake (4 min drive). Make sure you follow the directions provided, Google Maps wanted to bring us the wrong way (do not turn left down Ledge Lane). There are little HipCamp logo signs that help guide the way at the end of the Saranac Lane when it turns to dirt. The cabin was very clean and inviting. It was cold the first night as the cabin is not insulted or have heat, but between the blankets they provide and the blankets we brought we were comfy. Really appreciated having drinking water provided! We will definitely be booking a return trip to this cabin in the future!

Lots of privacy despite being less than 5 minutes from down town Saranac Lake! The cabin is a great middle ground camping experience- no plumbing or electric but you still get the creature comforts of a bed. The blankets provided kept us warm despite low temps in the 40s. Only downside is the solar shower does not heat up when there’s no sun, but we made it work.

My husband and I stayed in Sara and Matt's tiny house the night after our wedding for some relaxation in the woods. It was truly an amazing place to stay that was beautifully crafted and VERY comfortable. The house is minutes from town where we had amazing meals at Blue Moon Cafe and Campfire and did some fabulous shopping. We enjoyed coffee on their porch and while we didn't get a chance to use the fire pit, it is very quaint and picturesque. Their outhouse is also very well crafted and thoughtfully stocked. Thank you for the wonderful stay to start our married life! We can't wait to visit again!

Weekend Trip to Adirondack Rustic Retreat

We had a great stay here at the end of September with our dog. The property is beautiful. The place is really peaceful - just the sound of owls at night, no traffic noise at all. There's virtually no light pollution, so we had a really nice view of the stars at night. The beach area was well equipped with a fire pit, propane grill, basic utensils, tiki torches and even a screen room so you can eat without being bothered by bugs (though that wasn't really a problem when we were there). The cabin was cozy too. Overall, a very nice experience. We would love to come back again.

This space has a great vibe & everything you need. Although I didn’t come prepared to make a fire, there is a nice little fire pit with several chairs. I might have stayed up later had I built a fire, but I was perfectly happy climbing into bed not long after the sun went down. The local books & having plenty of blankets made it super cozy.

What an amazing property with incredibly kind owners!!! It's an off the grid location, which is what we were looking for to unwind and regroup with life. Disappointed we fell ill with horrible head colds and didnt get an opportunity to explore all there was to see, which only means we 100% need to come back. But there is no better place to lay around, stare at the pristine nature views and fall in and out of naps. We brought our 2 dogs and they loved the property and all the exciting wildlife they got to see. 10/10 recommend if your not afraid of being detached from the world and survive with out running water and electricity!!!!

3 nights at Scott’s Summit

Paige and I had a wonderful time at Scott’s site! The views were incredible, beautiful sunrises and sunsets were had. The site itself had a lot of great amenities and was well maintained. Scott was a phenomenal host who quickly answered any of the questions we had and gave us plenty of privacy. Plenty of great trails to hike around just a short drive away. Would highly recommend having a larger vehicle like an SUV to get to the site and navigate the terrain. I drive a Toyota rav4 and got around just fine. Would definitely recommend this site, we had a phenomenal time.

Our family of six had the most amazing time camping at the Black Hole and Dunkley Falls campsite. The tents and accommodations were spotless, comfortable, and far exceeded our expectations. The Fords went above and beyond to make our stay special—bringing us warm water for showers and even surprising me with cupcakes for my birthday. They truly think of everything, making it a completely carefree glamping experience. We loved exploring Dunkley Falls and jumping into the Black Hole, both just a short walk from camp. We also spent a day whitewater rafting and tackling the Adirondack Extreme Adventure Park—there’s so much to do in the area! We can’t wait to come

You have the entire camper, porch, high-speed satellite internet, full kitchen, indoor full bathroom with composting toilet, outdoor shower and washer/dryer, fire pit, outdoor seating, outhouse, and 32-acre woodland surroundings. Feel free to explore the two marked walking trails (former logging trails). One is marked with orange tags; the other is green. Park in front of the camper.

Adirondack Rustic Retreat

As far as we know, this land has been occupied since shortly after the civil war. It is actually two farms, combined into one around 1900. The main farmhouse was built out of the logs they cleared in 1879, and there are old foundations of the other original farm houses/barns as well. All over the property (now woods) there are piles of stones that the original inhabitants pulled from the fields. The second farm house was built in 1901. Most of the total 240 acres were cleared pasture land at that time. During the twenties and thirties the property was owned by an industrious couple from the City that lovingly turned it into more of a "rustic retreat"; damming a pond, planting ornamentals and upgrading the buildings. There have been many owners over the years, but we are proud to say it has been with us the longest. Our family bought it in 1961 and we have been trying to be good stewards ever since.
