You don't have to be an interpretive dancer (though it's probably recommended) to understand the helpful interpretive signs that describe the six distinct habitats through which the Beaver Pond Nature Trail passes at Higley Flow State Park. Despite the otherwise heavily-wooded and hilly terrain, there is a sandy beach for swimming and plenty of leveled campsites so you won't roll your own little dam down stream. Take advantage of the many amenities this camp has to offer, even for winter visitors (ice fishing, anyone?), but be aware that they do allow hunting during certain peak seasons so be sure to check the calendar and throw the oranges in tow!

Camp Okwáho

6. Camp Okwáho

46mi from St Regis Falls · 1 site · Tent, RV
Located within the Adirondack Park, our camp is a private woodlot with a fantastic view of Jay Mountain! You’ll enjoy peace and quiet, with no road noise or light pollution. The eastern exposure of the site provides plenty of sunshine. Although you’re likely here to explore the Adirondack Mountains, our property invites you to truly relax and enjoy the surroundings. The driveway leads to a level area for car camping or pitching a tent. You’ll also find a stone fire pit with firewood available for purchase (honor system) on site. A unique timber framed outhouse is just a short walk from the campsite. As a rule, we leave the outhouse stocked with toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and trash bags. However, because we won’t be on site to restock supplies between guests, it’s best to come prepared with those items. We think you’ll agree that our location is hard to beat! You’ll see and hear wildlife throughout your stay. Listen for the drumming of a Ruffed Grouse by day, and for barking foxes, chatty coyotes, and hooting owls at night. While fully immersed in a prime Adirondack setting, you’ll still be surprisingly close to nearby attractions and conveniences: 1 mile from the Jay Mtn trailhead 2 miles from the Ice Jam Inn (dinner) 2 miles from the ADK Cafe (breakfast, lunch) 4 miles from Ward Lumber (camp supplies) 4 miles from Jay Covered Bridge/swimming hole 8 miles to Keene (beer, gas, groceries, etc) 10-20 minutes from lots of High Peak hiking access (Giant, The Garden, and others) 16 miles to Lake Placid While we do mow and cleanup up several times per year, our Camp is fairly primitive. That being said, you might encounter tall grass and an occasional fallen tree (free firewood!). The driveway and campsite are navigable in a vehicle with 4WD/AWD. A bit of extra ground clearance will help. If you have concerns about whether or not your ride can handle it, feel free to contact us… we can weigh in. Please treat the land with respect. We ask that all guests clean up after themselves upon checkout, and take their trash with them when leaving. Thank you for your interest in Camp Okwáho. We know you’ll enjoy your stay!!! 🐺

Willow Hill Farm is a family-run working horse farm. We train , teach, board horses, and run a day camp. We had a resident camp for 40 years. We have mountains in our backyard and the Au Sable River with world class fishing bordering our meadow for a half mile. Great swimming there, also! We are 45 minutes from Lake Placid and 30 minutes from Plattsburgh. Montreal and Burlington, VT are a 1.5 hour drive. Lake Champlain is 15 minutes away. Hiking, boating, and swimming are all close, and riding lessons are available on the farm. Most hip camp sites are near where resident campers stayed. There are two sleeping cabins with many bunks. Each has two small rooms where a counselor slept and one large room. There are screened windows with shutters on all sides and screen doors without locks on each end. There are electrical outlets and over head lights in the cabins. We have plans to improve the cabins. Past the cabins is the Green with 4 loose stone firepits. Across from the cabins is the shower house with four hot showers, sink, and toilets. Showers and toilets have closed stalls. Currently, the water system is above ground and will not work in freezing temps. We have installed an outhouse for year round use. All water is from our excellent well. On each side of the former(closed) dining are spots. There are electrical outlets on the outside of the dining hall. People with campers may like to park in the riding arena near the barnyard. There are outlets, but no toilets. Good water is available from the barns. Lovely views of sky and mountains! We also have a beautiful 50 acre field with a household type outlet, but no well. There is an outhouse there. Excellent sky viewing here. This is where we jump and train our horses. Horses may be turned out in this field.

A hemlock and pine forest at the edge of the meadow leads to our 50-acre wetland preserve which provides habitat for many bird and wildlife species. Native people also camped, hunted and trapped here in the early 1800s.Learn more about this land:Relax in a secluded meadow, wander through old Hemlock forest trails and watch many varieties of birds and other wildlife on 60 acres of wetland preserve. Leishman point is owned by the Town of Waddington and was created during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway. Dredge spoils were transported and placed creating a tract of land that rises 50 feet above the river and surrounding lands. The New York Power Authority acquired the property from the Leishman's who owned and operated a farm on the surrounding lands. In 2000, the New York Power Authority deemed the property surplus and conveyed it to the Town of Waddington. This Hip-Camp endeavor is hopefully our first step in creating a fully functional RV Park and campsite for everyone to enjoy. Visit the Town of Waddington Museum at the Old Town Hall for more information on the construction of the the St. Lawrence Seaway and how it transformed Waddington. Learn more about this land: Park your RV or camper trailer or pitch your tent on top of Leishman Point in Waddington, New York and enjoy the unobstructed views of, and unlimited access to the majestic St. Lawrence River. The Waddington public beach is adjacent to the campsite with swimming, playground, and pavilion for all to enjoy. Bring your boat and safely moor it at the public docks at the beach. Our property dates back to the early 1800’s where it began as a family farm and was operated that way until the 1960’s when it became a tree farm. In 1986 is when it entered our family. Much of our property remains a Red Pine tree farm with modern improvements along the way. With a Wedding Officiant on site special occasions are always welcome such as family reunions or couples seeking to elope<3

Our property was purchased and farmed by my ancestors in 1803. They cleared the meadow area of trees and rocks and established the stone wall, enclosing the area. A very private spot with space for gatherings, tipis, tents, vans -- all are welcome.Absolutely beautiful night skies due to a lack of light pollution.Only 5 minutes away from the village, where you can pick up groceries and whatever else you need.Kids 12 and under can stay for free.

Watch the Great Lake freighters and recreational boats ply the waters of the St. Lawrence River whiling fishing, swimming, sun bathing, or just relaxing by the River.

We are in the foothills of the Adirondack.Experience the area in a rustic, yet cozy cabin. Dragonfly and River Rat are located on 9 private acres situated along the bank of the Oswegatchie River. There are only 3 cabins on the property, rent the 2 and bring the whole family or just rent 1 and still feel like your secluded. We stay in the 3rd cabin for the season. Stay on site and enjoy the river on a canoe or kayak. Or explore the area to trails to waterfalls, hike in the mountains, or check out the quaint towns on the St Lawrence River or all the lakes around.
