I live off grid in one of the toughest climates in the US. I have about 15 acres of land bordered by 10,000 acres of wild forest preserve. Locals refer to this area as The Hill because of its unique weather anomalies. I share my experiences with campers in good weather but exist here all year. I am a Qualified NYS Woodland Guide. My actual license is pending the processing of fees and registration. This should be complete by August 1st of this year. I have over a half century of knowledge gained through a lifetime of hiking, exploring and living in this environment. My main focus is the land, lakes, ponds and streams in the lower Adirondack Park. I leave the high peaks, ice climbing and white water rafting to others that choose that speciality. My goal in guiding is not that of a just a follow me and listen guide. I strive to help those interested in learning about and enjoying the outdoors safely so that you take away real life skills you can use once we are done. I did search and resuce work as a volunteer for many years under DEC Forest Rangers. To help contain costs l will allow up to groups of people to participate at one time. Also. If you would like Amish made products, l can arrange that as well. There is a very conservative Amish community in the surrounding area. I consider these people my good friends and l am very familiar with their customs, traditions and lifestyles. Many people are now thinking of doing what we have done. If you so choose, we can schedule time to discuss any of the offgrid issues that may be unanswered in your mind. The original intent was to offer a peaceful place for you to escape for a time. Located right off the ATV trails and just 15 minutes down back roads from the world-famous Salmon River and Salmon River Falls, our off-grid family camp is tucked away a quarter-mile down an old private dirt road in the woods.
Now, we say "off-grid," but this camp gives you the choice to either rough it like they did in the old days or use our generator system to power lights, a TV, shower, microwave, and electrical outlets.
This is a great place to stay after a long day of fishing, hiking, or ATV riding, or if you're simply looking for peace and quiet away from the crowds.
The cabin features a bed in the loft, a pull-out sofa bed, and two additional beds in the side room. (These beds can remain in the side room or be moved into the main cabin if preferred.)
The kitchen runs on propane, and we provide the propane. We also have a fire pit with water located nearby for safety.
If you decide to run the generator and power up the camp, we provide two 5-gallon gas cans. (If the generator runs all night, it will use approximately 5 gallons of gas.)
We enjoy coming out here so much and wish we could stay for weeks at a time, but sadly we can't. So, we're opening up our camp to others who enjoy the outdoors and can appreciate and respect a good old family camp.
I can also provide recommendations on fishing spots and weekend adventures for fishing or ATV riding for guests who are new to the area. Just ask!

The campsite is so cute, the fire pit was perfect, the cabin was also great! Very clean! I expected to see spiders inside the cabin and I don't think I even saw 1. Karl was very kind and welcoming. I even loved being greeted by the two goats as we were packing to leave. Wonderful experience!

We had such a wonderful stay at Into the Wild! The cabin was cozy, peaceful, and exactly what we were looking for. Karl was an incredible host—so accommodating, helpful, and knowledgeable about the property and the area. He even took us on a walk around the trails, which made the experience so much more special. You can really tell he cares about his guests and wants them to enjoy everything the property has to offer. The setting is beautiful, quiet, and perfect for relaxing by the fire or exploring the woods. We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Coyote Hollow Park
We had a wonderful stay at Coyote Hollow Site 2! Even though it rained most of the weekend, the glamping tent kept us warm and dry. The hosts were incredibly friendly and had thought of every detail to make our stay comfortable.
The site was quiet, clean, and peaceful. Breakfast offered a great variety, and we loved the free-roaming chickens and ducks. We’d happily stay here again and highly recommend it!

Lovely and cozy cabin in a private area. The hosts were great and super helpful. The cabin is solar/battery powered but they ran a quiet generator to refill the battery when it ran out. The bathroom building is right by the cabin and has a flush toilet and hot shower. The running water isn't potable, but they provided a water cooler for drinking water.

The tent and site were perfect! Even better than advertised. The location is amazing-- so close to town but very private and quiet. The tent was spacious and the mattress was comfortable. A small cupboard outside contained a few necessary items we forgot-- namely bug spray and a lighter for the campfire. I intend to stay here again in the future.
Beware that the road leading up to the site is a little rough.

Weekend Trip to Reflections Homestead
We were really looking forward to this stay, and it exceeded our expectations! Karl greeted us when we arrived, along with his daughter, and took the time to show us around and share helpful information about the property and the surrounding area.
The cabin was cozy and comfortable. The bed is a pull-out futon, so I would recommend bringing a mattress pad or sleeping bag if you prefer a little extra cushioning for sleeping. Karl has also recently installed a solar battery pack, which provides lighting and allows for basic device charging, making the cabin even more convenient.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would absolutely stay here again the next time we're in the area for hiking or visiting Utica. Highly recommend!

Our family had a wonderful time here! Everything was perfect and so many thoughtful touches. Christine met us and helped us with our bags. She was very helpful and answered all our questions. So many nice touches, including the soaking tubs. The bathroom was super clean and the bath house had a working toilet, which is always appreciated when camping. Breakfast was great. And we loved how sustainable everything was, using solar power. Bed were very comfortable! We will return!

The tent was toasty during the day (but the oscillating fan helped) and cooled right off into the evening. The camp store and complimentary breakfast were so convenient and kind.
We will be returning to try one of the other sites soon!!

My husband and I were looking for someplace quiet and private to relax and unwind. Karl lives on the property behind the cabin and welcomed us with a burning fire. Even with Karl on the property directly behind us, the cabin faced out into the forest and felt very private. We saw Karl one time when he stopped to ask if we needed anything. We came prepare to camp in a rustic cabin and were pleasantly surprised when we walked in to find we really didn’t need much. There was a camp stove and all of the cook wear and utensils, along with dishes, cups and silverware. Karl and is wife have really put thought into every detail. It didn’t bother us a bit when the nights were cold and the first night rained hard. We found a heater and Yahtzee game inside to keep us warm and content. I really can’t think of one way they could improve. Karl was very friendly. We didn’t get the pleasure of meeting his wife but maybe next time because we definitely plan to visit again. Thank you Karl.
