One of several state parks in the St. Lawrence River watershed; Cedar Island sets itself apart with distinguishing and unique features. Shall we elaborate? You can only get to Cedar Island via water--canoe, kayak, or something contraption with a motor that floats. The docks where you can park your rig are also are popular among fishermen trying to get into deeper water--where the big biters are! Being one of the oldest parks in the region, it is a bit more rustic and… lets just say, ”down to earth.” The shores of the island are the stuff that killer photos are made of, definitely set your alarm to catch the sunrise and sunset when you stay at Cedar Island!

Canoe-Picnic Point is the place to be! That is, if you have a boat or are like a fish in the water. You see, this secluded island on the St. Lawrence river, is well, an island. Automatic coolness factor, +10. The park is on Grindstone Island, which is one of the largest islands in the famous “Thousand Islands” area. (Rumored as one of the most beautiful places in the state). As you would expect, the boating and fishing is excellent and is what draws most people, but the island itself is quite pretty with picnic areas scattered about and secluded, forested campgrounds. Canoe-Picnic Point is a wonderful visit and only accessible by boat… how cool is that?

With cobblestone mill ruins, a 200 year old cemetery at the property entrance and a large dam at the top of some of New York's most beautiful waterfalls, this is the former site of one of the Georgia Pacific's many logging mills dating back to the early 1800's and a part of Adirondack history. Surrounded by bedrock, huge boulders, massive pine trees and miles and miles of trails, the Fowlerville Falls offer days of exploration and/or relaxation. There is a large swimming hole at the top of the falls, just off of the South-facing bedrock bank, where you can swim or lay in the sun. The falls, themselves, are almost 500 ft. across (at the widest point) and approximately 150 ft. in length (from top to bottom), ascending at approximately a 40-45 degree angle, making them navigable by foot. In the drier months (and, of course, depending on rain fall), most of the falls are dry, with only 50 - 100 ft. of water flow, making them navigable by foot. There are many little pools and flowing water across the bedrock to explore, along with the rest of the river, the surrounding woods and adjacent miles and miles of atv/hiking trails. If you are kayaker, there river above the falls is calm and fairly shallow, ranging from .5 - several feet in depth. And if you are white water enthusiast, Fowlerville Falls (and the Moose River) is a nationally rated and renowned spot, boasting a class III-IV under normal release conditions, and a dangerous, cold class V under spring runoff conditions. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Learn more about this land: A raw, pine forest lining the bedrock banks of Port Leyden's Fowlerville Falls, just inside of the Adirondack park. The former site of one of Georgia Pacific's old logging mills, the property has private access to beautiful water falls, a large swimming hole just off of a large, South-facing rock bank, untamed, clean pine forests, ATV and hiking trails, trout & small mouth bass fishing, many fire pits and areas to camp throughout the property.

A fisherman’s paradise, the island boasts some of the best bass, pike and muskie fishing in the region, along with a full service marina and numerous boat launches. If putting worms on the hook isn’t your thing, soak up the sun and splash in the water at the swimming beach; play a round of golf or hang back at your campsite or cabin. The Minna Anthony Common Nature Center is a sweet way to explore too! With pristine shoreline, wooded wetlands and granite outcroppings with sick views, you might just pull a Gilligan and stay forever.

Cedar Island State Park

12. Cedar Island State Park

2 sites · Hammond, New York

Canoe-Picnic Point State Park

13. Canoe-Picnic Point State Park

30 sites · Thousand Island Park, New York

Our property was purchased and farmed by my ancestors in 1803. They cleared the meadow area of trees and rocks and established the stone wall, enclosing the area. A hemlock and pine forest at the edge of the meadow leads to our 50-acre wetland preserve which provides habitat for many bird and wildlife species. Native people also camped, hunted and trapped here in the early 1800s.Learn more about this land:Relax in a secluded meadow, wander through old Hemlock forest trails and watch many varieties of birds and other wildlife on 60 acres of wetland preserve.
