It’s a safe, open space for kids to run and families to reconnect, surrounded by the simple beauty of Mother Nature.
* Showers are seasonal, with the last day of use on October 15th. You’re welcome to bring your own portable shower and use the shower house for privacy.
* The shower system requires access to a cigarette lighter port (vehicle or portable battery) to power the pump.
* The property is solar-powered with no electrical hookups, so we recommend bringing flashlights and backup battery packs for charging devices. On low-sun days, solar lighting may be limited.
* During rainy or muddy conditions, and in winter, access to the hilltop sites may require 4WD, and even then, it is not guaranteed—especially in early spring. Please plan accordingly.

*Important note: Lake Rd is busy and there will be road noise that dies down after 11pm. There is a historic and active railroad line behind the cabin and you will hear the train pass through the day and night. Some people have found it cool or relaxing but others have not.
Nestled on its own 4-acre parcel within our family's 12-acre plot, this cozy retreat offers a private driveway and setting for your getaway.
New additions this year include a fire ring and porta-potty, adding to the complete experience of your stay. Just a mile down the road, you'll find access to Lake Erie, boasting a small beach and kayak slip. On clear nights, don't miss the opportunity to gaze at the stunning stars above.
Your host, Brian, has infused the cabin with photography and treasures from his global journeys, adding a unique touch to your stay. The hosts philosophy is to not bother you at all during your stay unless you have a specific need or concern, so your stay is all yours. The price is kept low to reflect this a campsite rental, not a hosted Airbnb. With that said every effort is made to make things comfy.

For your safety, please exercise caution when venturing into the woods and avoid approaching the active train tracks located at the back of the property.
While the passing train adds to the rustic charm of the setting, it may NOT be suitable for light sleepers. Road traffic noise tends to calm down in quiet hours.

The Hosta Cabin sits on about 7 acres of peaceful lakefront property with 450 feet of frontage on Lake Erie. We have stairs that provide direct access to the beach, and there’s ample room to hang out, enjoy a campfire, or take a long walk by the water. If you’re traveling with children or want to camp, there’s also plenty of space for a tent.
There are two cabins on the property, each with its own fire pit and chairs. While they are next to each other, there’s ample space between them, and they’re close enough for a family or group to rent both for a shared stay.
We live on the property, so you may see us or our friendly dog around. While we try to give our guests space, we’re always available to answer questions and enjoy a friendly conversation when welcomed.
Please note, while we have a dog, we do not allow guests to bring pets.
Things to Know Before You Book
This is a SMOKE-FREE property, both INSIDE and OUTSIDE.
We want everyone to enjoy their stay and relax responsibly. However, we do not allow any illegal drugs or excessive drinking. If we feel that guests are intoxicated or using drugs, they will be asked to leave, and the police may be called if necessary.
The only people allowed on the property are those listed on the reservation. If you’re thinking about having guests, please reach out for permission first. There will be absolutely no parties.
There is no TV. We do not offer wifi. Think of this as a place to unplug and enjoy some peace and quiet. Having said that, most cell services work just fine here.”
We do have neighbors who are generally quiet. My dog may bark at wildlife. You may be present during my yard work. There is always the possibility of road work. As a rule, it is quiet and peaceful.
My yard is a shared space. The beach is shared, too; although we do not have a lot of traffic.

The southern section of the property ascends abruptly from 2050'-2250'. The northern range is less abrupt.
It has been my passion & a genuine labor of love to keep this environment as pristine as possible. My ultimate goal is to be able to provide a place for man to be nurtured, where nature & wildlife will thrive, always striving to keep the environment as pristine & serene as possible. Truly a unique balance. Due to this balance, occupancy is limited. Small groups are welcome (contact us for pricing.) Ample parking & private picnic areas are also provided. The Nest was as advertised: quiet, away from other cabins, a great opportunity to unplug, and had all the amenities we needed. The creak was so enjoyable to listen to. I would recommend hiking boots for hiking in Minster. The Shaw House in Sheffield is a delicious place for bar food, and reconnecting if you need to. There is a beautiful new covered area with the grill that looks close to new and a new picnic bench. It is however the flattest spot on the site. Be prepared to walk on uneven ground and up/down throughout the site, especially getting to the creek. No problem if you are in shape. I would not recommend it if you have any trouble walking. We tried fishing but no luck getting any nibbles. Loved the swing by the fire pit! The cabin is a bit tight especially if you want to eat inside. Ben and his mom were SUPER communicative. We unfortunately had trouble with the water flow stopping. We drive into town to call Ben and he gave us a few suggestions which unfortunately didn’t work for us so we cut our trip a day short. Ben is easy to work with and does right by his guests. Very trustworthy owner.

This is a really nice quiet place to relax and unplug. The owner and his family were very helpful and there’s plenty of amenities available while still feeling rather off grid. Got to fish, sit by the fire and enjoy a fresh summer meal off the grill under the pavilion. Would definitely recommend and would definitely come back!

It is so clean, the sites are spacious, and it is the perfect launchpad for hiking the Allegheny National Forest. Jessica and Scott were exceptional hosts. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel so welcome and truly went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. They checked in with us every day to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed, which was such a thoughtful touch.

We loved our time in the farm! Very remote and perfect for a getaway. The property is beautiful and the amenities are convenient. The goats and other animals are very friendly but shy. We found a bunch of fun things to do in the area like chilling at a nearby beach and exploring the nearby towns. Overall we had a blast and hope to comeback!

We loved this adorable cabin on the hillside especially with the riverfront and the proximity to the ANF. We made it to Jakes Rocks for cycling, Minister Creek for hiking, and also Hector Falls for a short hike. There’s no cell service, which was a great way to unwind. The little cabin has everything you need, feels very homey and locals are super friendly. Make sure to stop at the Blue Jay Inn for food.

We recently stayed at this cabin for our anniversary weekend to explore lake Erie and it was the absolute perfect choice for a getaway. The cabin itself is incredibly cozy and inviting; it has that warm, charming atmosphere that makes it hard to leave once you’ve settled in.
One thing we were curious about before arriving was the location, given its proximity to the road and railroad tracks. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was very quiet throughout our stay. The background noise blended in and It truly didn't impact the peacefulness of the weekend at all!
A quick tip for future guests: The cabin is well-stocked with some basic essentials, including the power station. which was incredibly helpful not needing to set up ours. I would recommend bringing along your own "goodies"—drinking waters, your favorite coffee, snacks, or specific pantry items—to really round out your stay. It’s the perfect setup if you like having the basics provided but want to personalize your treats.
Overall, we had an amazing experience. We’re already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing escape!

We loved our trip! It was a perfect weekend get away for our family. We walked in the river, swam, went fishing, and just relaxed. We came with our 9 year old and 1 year old, they both had a great time!
The site has a nice covered pavilion with a gas grill, fire pit with a swing near by. The kitchen has a two burner stove, toaster over, fridge, keurig coffee maker, and sink. Hot water, AC, and dvd player and a ton of DVDs which was nice when the storm rolled in.

Where to go
Allegany State Park
On the north end of the reservoir, Allegany State Park offers 65,000 acres of rare, old growth forest, two lakes, and rugged terrain with plenty of trails for hiking, biking, and snowmobiling. Two developed areas—Quaker and Red House—offer more than 300 campsites, 350 cabins (142 winterized), and eight cottages. Amenities include swim beaches, playgrounds, playing fields, boat and bike rentals, and boat launches. Just west of the state park, in the Enchanted Mountains of New York, Onoville Marina Park offers nearly 100 seasonal and transient camping sites, some right along the shores of the reservoir.
Allegany Indian Reservation
The northwestern part of the reservoir is surrounded by the Allegany Reservation of the Seneca Nation of Indians, which also includes several towns, the city of Salamanca, and the Seneca-Allegany Casino. Campers can stay at the Highbanks Campground, across the reservoir from Allegany State Park’s Quaker Area. Options include tent sites and RV sites with water and 30-amp electric hookups, picnic tables, and fire pits, along with spacious cabins and chalets, and amenities that include a boat launch, pool, picnic areas, and playground.
Allegheny National Forest
A mecca for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, the forest features 10 developed campgrounds. Willow Bay, Dewdrop, Kiasutha, and Red Bridge are the closest to the reservoir, and together offer more than 400 tent sites, RV sites, and rustic cabins. Most sites include picnic tables and fire rings, while many RV sites offer hookups and a dump station. For the best views, book a waterfront site or stay at a boat-in campground, such as Hopewell, Pine Grove, or Hooks Brook. With more than 500,000 acres, there’s plenty of space for dispersed camping.
