The Enchanted Circle Campground sits on the Avalon Ranch. It is 161 owned acres surrounded by a state trust lease. We are very proud to have been voted #1 Campground in NM 4 years in a row and ranked Top 5 by Forbes in the country.
We have 8 Sites to choose from. (No large RVs at 4, 7 or 8) Campfires are permitted, and pets are welcome. Free potable water is available as well as a portable toilet.
For cooking, you will have a fire pit, with a cast iron grill. Every site (but 7) has a standing charcoal grill, with tongs, a spatula and a grill brush. A fire extinguisher and a shovel. We hang a hand washing jug at every site for your convenience, with potable water, but do not suggest this for drinking water source.
The property was originally homesteaded in 1893. It was also the first potato farm in NM. It has seven ground-fed springs that run year-round and is officially the Coyote Creeks Headwaters. The springs converge after filling 4 of our ponds in the marshland where the potatoes were grown. A family of 4 lived in the first dwelling built here, not much larger than a shed. Since that time, 2 homes, 1 of which still stands, a barn, a smokehouse, and 4 other outbuildings were constructed. There are old wagons and farm equipment from the late 1800s and early 1900's still strewn about the ranch.
We are home to Huge herds of Elk, mule deer, turkeys, prairie dogs, eagles, black bears, 9 horses, chickens, pigs, goats, our 2 dogs and 4 cats, and the occasional Mountain Lion.
We live here year-round. We love our land and want to share it with others.
I am a Veteran and our intent is to eventually have a Veterans Retreat facility here. Not a retreat itself, but rather a location for all of the retreats, nationwide, to be able to utilize, so they can use the funds they have to do what they do best. You are helping to make that possible.
We do pride ourselves on minimally impacting our land. We strive to keep it clean and as close to nature as we can.
And as always, Veterans, LEOs, and Fire Fighters are always free for one night up to 4 guests. Just book your reservation, and show us your ID during your stay, and we will reimburse you for your last night with us.

The Indian ruins and artifacts fascinated him then and he is still happy to share this history with whoever shows an interest. With all the improvements made by his father and family through the years, you will also learn to have a love for the history and beauty here on this unique 30-acre treasure.
You can explore Native American ruins that were inhabited by some 2,000 people between 700-1100 AD. The grounds are wonderful to walk with a little lake which draws elk, deer, hawks, blue herons, etc.
Easy to access just 3 minutes off I-25. We are 5 minutes away from the Pecos Natl Monument and 15 minutes away from the Pecos River with plenty of great fishing spots ;Visit Santa Fe (20-minute drive) or Las Vegas (30-minute drive) with dozens of restaurants, museums, art galleries, etc.

Your Camp Host, Chef Üdø, is onsite most days and evenings, and has 30 years' experience in the catering and private chef biz, and as a camp host. He's happy to coordinate hot meals for you and your companions! No more need to go into town to get a pizza or some icky fast food! We will make you a homemade pizza, dry-aged steak, brined chicken, smoked Wagyu burger, or lasagna...all in-house. Vegan, vegetarian, kosher, low-sodium, and most other dietary restrictions are no problem! We'll bake you a birthday cake, brownies, pie, or even Crème brûlée! Dusty Rabbit Van Life @ Schrimsher Ranch is an alternative camping and Star Gazing location just outside of ROSWELL, yet close to the open road. A great place to relax under the stars, have a camp fire, and kick back next to your travel rig after a long day. You might just want to crash for the night in a safe location out on the rangeland or stay a day or two to enjoy the land to walk, mountain bike antelope trails, and maybe even Sniffers the pronghorn antelope will find ya before you head out. This is a primitive site, so leave no trace practice is appreciated and pack in/out is how we do it here. If you come in the summer prepare the morning coffee early and enjoy the desert sun's rays hit the Capitan, but by 9am it will be hot, so be ready! Best star gazing and satellite watching in the world!
I have several sites to choose from. But remember to keep an eye on the wind and weather as it can get crazy out here sometimes…..!!! I try to keep the sites stocked with firewood, but fill free to bring your own.
Lonely Bull Camp 1 is my most popular site. It is very private and is easily accessible by most vehicles and campers.
Ask about Lonely Bull Camp 4x4 if you have a capable vehicle. Amazing stars!!
Old Highway Camp is a great alternative if you want something closer to the highway and have a safe private place to pull over, camp, kickback, make a fire and get back to your life on the on the road in the morning. It is closer to the highway, but is quite at night and has great star gazing. Enjoy being greeted by The Mountain in the morning. San Juan Quality Waters in the San Juan River offers world class fishing. The Animas River offers fun river floats. Chaco Canyon National Park is only 2 hours away.
In Colorado, we are about an hour from these attractions: Mesa Verde National Park, McPhee Reservoir, Canyon of the Ancients, Lake Nighthorse Day Use Recreation area, Chimney Rock and Purgatory Ski Resort. La Plata Canyon has great mountain hiking and is only 30 minutes away.

Welcome to White Sands Smokehouse! The summer of ‘25 has seen big changes to our little primitive campsite! We are proud to offer accommodations in our Air Conditioned 16’ diameter bell tent! You’re up off the ground on a sealed deck. The tent is waterproof and highly resilient in winds up to 50mph. **We do not have bedding available in the bell tent yet, so bring your own sleeping bag, cot, etc.**
Your Camp Host, Chef Üdø, is onsite most days and evenings, and has 30 years' experience in the catering and private chef biz, and as a camp host. He's happy to coordinate hot meals for you and your companions! No more need to go into town to get a pizza or some icky fast food! We will make you a homemade pizza, dry-aged steak, brined chicken, smoked Wagyu burger, or lasagna...all in-house. Vegan, vegetarian, kosher, low-sodium, and most other dietary restrictions are no problem! We'll bake you a birthday cake, brownies, pie, or even Crème brûlée! Chef Üdø maintains current local food handler's certification, as well as HAACP federal certification. Prices are friendly and competitive with local restaurants. Vacuum-sealed frozen meals, aka “sous vide” available for most recipes.
(Please check “extras” section for more detail) We offer a 15amp electrical connection, access to clean running water, and access to our 4 acre back pasture. We feature unparalleled views of the sunrise over the mountains, as well as convenient access to Lincoln National Forest, White Sands National Monument, BLM off-road parklands, and nearby Alamogordo. Firewood available onsite for friendly prices (provided there isn't a current burn ban).
Additional onsite and backcountry packages are available, including fully-catered backcountry excursions in the Lincoln National Forest, wildlife spotting tours, photo tours, and even backcountry drive-in movies are available! Campfire setup, breakfast and omelette bar also available for large groups.

Dusty Rabbit Van Life @ Schrimsher Ranch is an alternative camping and Star Gazing location just outside of ROSWELL, yet close to the open road. A great place to relax under the stars, have a camp fire, and kick back next to your travel rig after a long day. You might just want to crash for the night in a safe location out on the rangeland or stay a day or two to enjoy the land to walk, mountain bike antelope trails, and maybe even Sniffers the pronghorn antelope will find ya before you head out. This is a primitive site, so leave no trace practice is appreciated and pack in/out is how we do it here. If you come in the summer prepare the morning coffee early and enjoy the desert sun's rays hit the Capitan, but by 9am it will be hot, so be ready! Best star gazing and satellite watching in the world!
I have several sites to choose from. But remember to keep an eye on the wind and weather as it can get crazy out here sometimes…..!!! I try to keep the sites stocked with firewood, but fill free to bring your own.
Lonely Bull Camp 1 is my most popular site. It is very private and is easily accessible by most vehicles and campers.
Ask about Lonely Bull Camp 4x4 if you have a capable vehicle. Amazing stars!!
Old Highway Camp is a great alternative if you want something closer to the highway and have a safe private place to pull over, camp, kickback, make a fire and get back to your life on the on the road in the morning. It is closer to the highway, but is quite at night and has great star gazing. Enjoy being greeted by The Mountain in the morning. In New Mexico, in 45 minutes or less you can be at one of the following: Navajo Lake State Park, Aztec Ruins, Glade Run Recreational area, Jackson Lake Wildlife Refuge, Farmington Lake Recreational area. San Juan Quality Waters in the San Juan River offers world class fishing. The Animas River offers fun river floats. Chaco Canyon National Park is only 2 hours away.
In Colorado, we are about an hour from these attractions: Mesa Verde National Park, McPhee Reservoir, Canyon of the Ancients, Lake Nighthorse Day Use Recreation area, Chimney Rock and Purgatory Ski Resort. La Plata Canyon has great mountain hiking and is only 30 minutes away.

Chef Udo’s property was a wonderful experience. The setting is peaceful and welcoming, and the food is absolutely delicious. Every meal is prepared with care and incredible flavor—you can really feel the passion behind it. We had the brisket nachos, brine chicken, chocolate cake, and cookies. A truly memorable stay and a must-visit for anyone who loves great food and warm hospitality. Chef Udo was genuinely happy to make sure everyone has a good time. He let us play with his glow in the dark bocce ball set, while waiting for dinner.

My stay at the smokehouse was genuinely a once in a lifetime experience. Chef-Üdø was SO accommodating, communicative and welcoming; the property felt well cared for and safe. And his food was absolutely unreal…where else can you have a world class steak dinner (followed by a warm cookie) underneath the stars?! I will remember this night for a long time!!

Camping on Chef's property was a unique experience. As you might expect, he is a great cook, and it is rare to have a hot meal served to you when camping. It can be a bit of a challenge to coordinate the timing if you don't know when you might be getting into camp, but things worked out OK. He is a knowledgeable host with a clear passion for the outdoors.
There are no regular camp sites in white sands NP, so this is about as close as you can get and there are other recreational possibilities in the nearby mountains. Chef has great plans for improvements to his site, such as a shower building, and he has a glamping tent available, but for now I had to make do with a shared table in contrast to other hosts that tend to offer individual picnic tables. There is a bathroom tent, but fires were not permitted when I was there. Much of the camping area is bare dirt.
When I was there in winter the weather was mild with some wind, but I am told it can be more windy at times.
Noise is a concern, there is noise from the road although it will die down late at night, noise from trains, and noise from roosters owned by nearby neighbors. On the positive note, I was able to observe a rare missile test at night with an interesting exhaust tail. Bringing ear plugs may help.

red rock retreat was gorgeous! we arrived after sundown but the full moon was bright enough for us to see without headlamps.
the road coming in was pretty rough, we made it through but it was kinda scary while driving on in our 25 ft class c RV. just a heads up, go slower than you think you need to!
however the views were perfect and we loved our stay. can’t wait to be back! thanks!

Great private campsite just a short drive from downtown Taos. Has a little setup for a tent, fire pit, and area for kitchen / cleaning with a port a potty as well.
Don was super responsive and even gave us some firewood to make a lovely fire at night. Would definitely stay again! I recommend getting to the site during the day as it’s a dirt road and would be a bit tricky to find at night- Don helped with directions as well.

Regan’s land was convenient to White Sands National Park and nearby town for necessities. The area was cleared, flat, with picnic table and a fire ring. The road to get there is long and bumpy but that’s to be expected given the location. The view of the mountains is beautiful. We camped in a ground tent there for one night, it was all we needed! I would definitely stay here again if in the area.
