Weekend Trip to Streeter Mountain Farm

Great place with great people. They have the cutest cats as well. Make sure you read the directions/details of the site before you go so you know what you’re signing up for. The furnace had some mild venting issues but we were able to get it going pretty warm and toasty. The farm itself is beautiful—it was nice to get away from the city and enjoy slow life and nature. 10/10 trip

The 20-foot diameter yurt was spacious; we had plenty of room to set up our camp kitchen inside. The yurt was well-lit with electric lights, and the hand-pumped water source was close. Cliff is a great host, providing detailed information and checking for any special requirements in advance and stopping by at the beginning of our visit to answer questions.

Weekend Trip to The Canopy

We had a lovely weekend at Purposely Lost! It snowed the night we arrived, and we spent the morning enjoying beautiful views from the warmth of the treehouse. A path was shoveled for us from the treehouse to our car, and we had no issues driving in or out despite the weather. The hot tub was fantastic, especially in the snow. I booked this location to propose to my partner, and it was the perfect, romantic backdrop for it. We hiked Bauneg Beg Mountain (18 mins away and a sweet 2 mile loop) and had a fantastic dinner at Bandaloop. We also spent an afternoon window shopping in Kennebunkport and grabbed great crepes at Mornings in Paris. The only hiccup was that we booked "The Canopy," but were directed to stay at "The Cliff House." When I reached out, the owners mentioned I was meant to be in the Cliff House, despite my booking confirmation and the review prompt both specifying the Canopy. While the Cliff House was lovely and we had a great stay, it was a bit frustrating to not receive the specific unit we paid for, especially given the price point. Despite the mix-up, the experience was wonderful. I’m still giving this 5 stars and would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a unique getaway!

I could not recommend this place enough. The treehouse itself was beautiful, clean, and in a great location. The outside had amazing views and the dock was a huge plus. I think the best part of the trip was how helpful and caring the staff was. I went up for my 1 year anniversary and they made it even more special by creating a keepsake for us to remember the trip, as well as being very kind and communicative. 10/10 experience, I have already suggested the place to multiple family members and friends.

I loved staying in the treehouse! Very cute and spacious. The staff was really nice and accommodating. We enjoyed the communal area, used their grill (chimney starter provided, yay!) There was also a really friendly tabby kitty that kept hanging around us which made me super happy. Just some things to note for other people to be prepared, since the treehouse is not insulated it can get noisy. It was windy our first night, with things falling on the metal roof and metal staircase is creaky so bring earplugs. It's a little drafty. We didn't have any issue with mosquitoes though. The roof overhangs a lot in front of the doorway, so tall people beware! They do provide carts to bring your stuff but it is all downhill to the treehouse (to varying degrees) and sometimes rocky so it's still not the easiest task, not to mention going back up so be mindful of how much you're packing! If I were to do it over I'd pack less and carry the weight in my backpack. Still, I would not hesitate to go back! Hopefully for longer next time. I imagine it would be pretty in the fall with the leaves changing all around 😊

We stayed at the yurt and found it comfortable and enjoyable. It's essentially a very large tent, but it stayed cool with no humidity, and the ventilation was great. The host was very helpful and made the check-in process easy. If you're looking for a very quiet experience, you might want to check whether the nearby units are occupied, as that can affect the level of noise. Our shower wasn’t working, so we had to use the shower in another unit. Despite that, it was a good overall experience. It's definitely worth visiting Long Pong for a swim, just be sure to bring water shoes.

2 nights at Streeter Mountain Farm

We loved our time relaxing at the Streeter Mountain Farm. Really good communication from Catherine, answering our pre-trip questions which were related to whether the shop would be open and what would be available (eggs and fresh garlic). We were also pre-warned that the treehouse is not fully sealed to mosquitos which we very much appreciated, we brought our own mosquito net for the bed and that was great. You have to walk about 400 ft from the parking lot through the property past the ponds to a small path that peels off into the words where the treehouse is located. It's extremely private and you can borrow a cart to help bring things down from your car. Showers and compost toilet in the main house were great and a convenient luxury. We fired up the coffee in the Summer kitchen with a small jet boil and we tried the nearby North Station Diner for brunch which was authentic and good value. In the evening we hung out at the communal firepit and met several other groups and took in some of the local fireworks, lots of fun and friendly people (4th July weekend). There is climbing and extensive bike trails locally, but we did not take advantage of them this time. All the people were super friendly and relaxed and we thoroughly enjoyed our time unwinding and the whole experience is highly recommended for relaxation.

Where to go

Ellacoya State Park

Attention, RV campers. On the southwest end of Lake Winnipesaukee, Ellacoya State Park opens from mid-spring to mid-autumn and offers a range of amenities for your next beach getaway. This sandy beach campsite sits right on the water, with a communal picnic area, playground, and boat ramp. Park your RV, and you can swim, lounge, and gaze at the Sandwich and Ossipee Mountains.

Belknap Mountain State Forest

Not far from Ellacoya State Park, Belknap Mountain State Forest embraces Lake Winnipesaukee from a higher altitude. Hike up Mount Major, and you can spot the lake in the distance. On a clear day, you may even catch a glimpse of Mount Washington. If you’d rather look upward than outward, stroll the nature preserve trails for prime bird-watching.

All through the Lakes Region

Within a short distance from Lake Winnipesaukee, you can visit Squam Lake, Ossipee Lake, and Lake Wentworth, among others. Further out, Lake Sunapee is always worth a visit, whether for winter snowshoeing or year-round sightseeing. If you have a few days, take your pick of lakes—or just go for a scenic drive. It’s as easy to stop for a swim as it is to roll down your windows.

When to go

Lake Winnipesaukee is made for the summer, when water-based activities peak. However, the shoulder months are equally suited to camping, especially if you want fewer crowds and less heat. Think: scenic drives when the leaves change or temperate April hikes. In the winter, many lake campsites shutter, so you’ll have fewer options for Lake Winnipesaukee camping. However, the activities never stall. You can ice fish, cross-country ski, and ice skate throughout the cold season.
