Halfpipe Farm

1 site · Lodging3 acres · East Thetford, VT
My land is easily accessible by main road, has ample parking, and yet cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife, fireflies and peepers are just outside the door. In the summer season, several organic farmstands and local picturesque swimming holes range between 5-15 minutes away. Autumn's glorious show is on display everywhere you look! Hopkins Center, AVA Gallery, the Lebanon Opera House, Northern Stage, and a wide array of restaurants are within 20 minutes. Despite the proximity to town and even to my home, the simple studio space is serene in its sumac baby forest. The space is one of a kind, with a giant salvaged chapel window, cathedral ceilings, a candelabra, a clawfoot tub, a quirky outhouse, on-demand hot water, electricity and wifi.

LIVING/DINING SPACE Open concept, cathedral ceiling, spacious with light from floor to ceiling, South-facing windows, the rustic touch of locally milled wide pine and oak floors made from the property’s own timber, 2 stone fireplaces. Delight in the unique decorations of original art, collections of curious objects, masks, sculptures, etc. Note: Guests are not permitted to use the fireplaces (it’s a brute timber home, so no open flame!). KITCHEN The fully equipped kitchen opens onto the living/dining space across a granite countertop/bar. You will find everything you need to cook using the gas range and double oven. The refrigerator has space available for your food. Note: There is no dishwasher, sink washing is part of the rustic lifestyle! If you are interested, please ask, but understand that it is a work in process. Thanks. If available, the outdoor hot tub is available for an additional one time per booking fee of $50.00. The tub is 6 feet across and especially delightful when unwinding from an outdoor adventure. Just ask in advance so it can be ready for your arrival! SAUNA The Finnish (steam) sauna is available by prior arrangement for $35. Note: The main living room has a beautiful Japanese sitting tub that is not currently available for use. MASSAGE For relaxation: Swedish massage. For more specific or stress related issues: deep tissue massage. Professional masseuse. Inquire for rates. HEAT Central heat is via thermostat controlled propane hot air. There are additional space heaters available for use throughout the house. CLEANLINESS & HYGIENE Please note that as a timber home in the woods, partially heated with wood, dust is inevitable, even though the house is thoroughly swept, mopped, vacuumed between each guest visit. TOILET The toilet is a septic system: only human waste and toilet paper may go into it. Other materials can damage the system and cost thousands of dollars to repair. Please, be thoughtful with the delicate septic system! There is no washer/dryer available for guest use in the house. There is a laundromat in Fairlee, just a few minutes drive if needed. Linens are washed/changed for between each guest visit. Pillows and bedspreads may be different from what appears in the photos. The cleaning fee covers laundering of linens and routine cleaning. An extra fee will be assessed in the event of unwashed dishes, damage repair, non-routine messes, etc. SHOWERS There are two "in tub", European style showers, with each of the bathtubs (Sky Suite and Red room, see pictures.). Also, there is a warm season outdoor shower, near the hot tub. Soon, I hope to install a walk-in shower, in the main floor bathroom, but it is not there, yet. The owner kindly requests no smoking of anything in the house and no heavy perfume use, please. PETS Pets are only accepted after my approval. Please ask me before bringing a pet. Following check in, guests can come and go as they wish. Check in time: 5pm or later, unless arranged. Check out time: 10am, unless arranged. Some personal rooms will be closed off, in the house. Please do not enter the personal spaces listed here: small bedroom off the fireroom (behind curtains and sliding doors), a work room behind the kitchen. ---------------------------- "You really just have to see this place for yourself. It's unlike anywhere I've been. The views from inside were absolutely outstanding. The sound of rain on the tin roof is serene, and you can clearly hear the pleasant sounds of the owls outside at night." —Dan "It was inspiring to be immersed in it while reconnecting with our own creativity." —Marie "We were able to watch the stars and the clear sky in the hot tub at night. It’s absolutely amazing. " —Sherry "Thank you for this not ordinary house." —Arax & Julia

Cabins in Lake Winnipesaukee with swimming guide

Overview

Just south of the White Mountains, New Hampshire’s Lakes Region contains lakes of all shapes and sizes. The largest? Lake Winnipesaukee, which rounds off at 72 square miles. Lake Winnipesaukee camping provides access to some of New Hampshire’s best campgrounds, whether you want a secluded mountain getaway or a family-friendly beach retreat. No matter where you spend the night, you’ll glimpse the same scenery—but through a different lens. While Lake Winnipesaukee is the area’s largest lake, they don’t call it a Lakes Region for no reason. Lakes scatter the area and vary in attractions, campsites, and vantage points.

Where to go

Ellacoya State Park

Attention, RV campers. On the southwest end of Lake Winnipesaukee, Ellacoya State Park opens from mid-spring to mid-autumn and offers a range of amenities for your next beach getaway. This sandy beach campsite sits right on the water, with a communal picnic area, playground, and boat ramp. Park your RV, and you can swim, lounge, and gaze at the Sandwich and Ossipee Mountains.

Belknap Mountain State Forest

Not far from Ellacoya State Park, Belknap Mountain State Forest embraces Lake Winnipesaukee from a higher altitude. Hike up Mount Major, and you can spot the lake in the distance. On a clear day, you may even catch a glimpse of Mount Washington. If you’d rather look upward than outward, stroll the nature preserve trails for prime bird-watching.

All through the Lakes Region

Within a short distance from Lake Winnipesaukee, you can visit Squam Lake, Ossipee Lake, and Lake Wentworth, among others. Further out, Lake Sunapee is always worth a visit, whether for winter snowshoeing or year-round sightseeing. If you have a few days, take your pick of lakes—or just go for a scenic drive. It’s as easy to stop for a swim as it is to roll down your windows.

When to go

Lake Winnipesaukee is made for the summer, when water-based activities peak. However, the shoulder months are equally suited to camping, especially if you want fewer crowds and less heat. Think: scenic drives when the leaves change or temperate April hikes. In the winter, many lake campsites shutter, so you’ll have fewer options for Lake Winnipesaukee camping. However, the activities never stall. You can ice fish, cross-country ski, and ice skate throughout the cold season.
