There is limited cell signal, no internet and no local or cable channels. The cabin is pet friendly, as I believe our pets are an extension of our families and should get to vacation with everyone rather than boarded (dogs only are allowed). Primary source of heat is a propane wall furnace. There is an electric fireplace in the living room. In the summer there is a window AC unit at the cabin and a fan for the loft (it does get hot up there). The cabin is very close (1/4 mile) to the AuSable River where you can easily launch boats, canoes and more. The ORV trail head is just a 1/4 mile down the road. This is also the perfect cabin for hunting, fishing, hiking and trail riding. Be sure to keep an eye out for an eagle or two. Also had deer tracks in the yard.

KITCHEN The kitchen is conveniently located off the back porch and is stocked with essentials to prep your meals, and boasts a dry sink with a 5 gallon water dispenser for washing dishes and washing up. We do NOT stock food essentials or keep food in the cabin; please bring your own, along with a cooler. The table has ample seating for enjoying meals, cards, and board games. One-of-a-kind animal mounts and rustic decorations adorn the whole downstairs. LIVING ROOM The living room is perfectly situated at the front of the cabin, overlooking the meadow. The propane fireplace will warm the entire cabin- even the loft! Sit on the leather couch and relax as you overlook the meadow. THE LOFT Head up the wood ladder to the open loft. You will find a cozy queen bed on one side, and 3 twin beds on the other. Bedding is included! The loft is a shared space, but does provide some privacy when the curtain divider is drawn. My stay at the Atwood Lodge was an absolute treat for the soul and senses. It provided me with a weekend of peace and beauty to cleanse my mind of the hustle and bustle of city living. My family and I particularly enjoyed the wonderfully manicured trails to walk and explore. We also loved wildlife 'hunting' with our eyes, spotting many deer, turkeys, and monarchs. The stars at night over the campfire on the hill were an absolute spectacle. The beds were clean and comfortable, providing great restful sleep for us all. The lodge interior was clean and cozy, complete with all the amenities one would need from home. My only regret is not walking all the trails this trip, guess I'll have to plan another stay 😉.

My best friend and I took a much-needed girl's trip to C&A in August. Aimee's communication and directions were extremely thorough, and amenities were better than a hotel. We packed as if we were going camping, but quickly realized we way overpacked, as Aimee had thought of everything. Chad and Aimee are lovely humans and gave us our space but still made communication easily accessible when there were any questions. We loved our campsite and enjoyed soaking up the scenery, hammocks, and firepit. The bathhouse was fully equipped with toiletries, a mini fridge, a large sink, snacks, tea, and coffee maker. Cell service was spotty, but texts still came and went eventually. The geography of this part of Michigan is absolutely beautiful, and we will keep C&A in mind for future adventures.

5 Stars – Perfect Remote Getaway, Especially for Dog Lovers! I had a fantastic stay at this cabin over the 4th of July weekend! I traveled with my three large dogs, and it couldn’t have been a better fit. The cabin is extremely dog-friendly, with a great setup that made us feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we arrived. The owner, Tim, was incredibly friendly and helpful. He was quick to respond to any questions and made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay. As noted in the listing, the bathroom is a portable toilet with an outdoor sink, which worked just fine for our needs, especially considering how remote and rustic the cabin is. If you’re looking for a quiet, remote escape where your dogs are not only welcome but truly accommodated, this is the place. I’m already looking forward to coming back!

Weekend Trip to pineleaf.
The cabin is nice, just the right size! The porch is a nice touch which allows you to hangout & cook your food. The field you over look on the porch is really nice! We had our 3 big dogs with us (2 being 100+ pound bully’s & the other being about 60 pounds doodle) we had stakes with leads on them and it was the perfect area for us to have them. The cabin was big enough for all of us to fit comfortably! He keeps little trash bags to pick up after your pups if you forget bags. I would definitely recommend staying here! Tim is very nice & makes sure you have everything you may need. He was very helpful with any questions we had, and has recommendations if you are looking for something specific to do. The bed was very comfortable, we were worried as we have stayed in some air bnbs with some of the worst beds but his is so comfortable we were able to get right to sleep! The bathroom is a portable toilet with an outdoor sink, if anyone was curious. We had a great time & totally recommend, especially for those with dogs who need somewhere for them to be able to have some room!

2 nights at CUT RIVER CABIN AT HIGGINS LAKE
We loved hanging out by and in the river all day. Our goal for the stay was to enjoy being outside by the water with the dogs. It was a great opportunity to enjoy the environment without having to be bothered by other folks and their unleashed dogs. We enjoyed playing on the kayaks as well. The beauty and sounds of nature was a perfect backdrop of the disconnect from the world. There was ample shade by the sandy beach to allow for relaxing. The river bed was sandy and not mucky. We saw lots of birds and a baby water snake. The outhouse was clean and setup for your comfort. The cabin was too warm to hang out in during the day but why would you when outside was perfect. Inside the cabin was clean and free from pests. We had brought our Jackery generator which allowed us to recharge the batteries of our shop fans. It may be too warm in the summer without a fan or two in you while sleeping. We had a great time and look forward to staying in the fall where it’s warm during the day and cooler at night.

The path is marked by solar lights at night. A 4-wheeled cart is provided to effortlessly get your belongings back and forth. PRIMITIVE EXPERIENCE Enjoy a rustic, off-grid Northern Michigan camping experience, all in the comfort of a tastefully decorated cabin. This cabin DOES NOT have electricity, running water, or traditional plumbing. OUTSIDE This 640SF cabin boasts two porches. The front porch overlooks the meadow and is perfect for sunsets and coffee. This porch includes a hand pump for fresh water in the warm months. The back porch faces the woods and is a great place to cook on the propane grill while enjoying a bonfire. KITCHEN The kitchen is conveniently located off the back porch and is stocked with essentials to prep your meals, and boasts a dry sink with a 5 gallon water dispenser for washing dishes and washing up. We do NOT stock food essentials or keep food in the cabin; please bring your own, along with a cooler. The table has ample seating for enjoying meals, cards, and board games. One-of-a-kind animal mounts and rustic decorations adorn the whole downstairs. LIVING ROOM The living room is perfectly situated at the front of the cabin, overlooking the meadow. The propane fireplace will warm the entire cabin- even the loft! Sit on the leather couch and relax as you overlook the meadow. THE LOFT Head up the wood ladder to the open loft. You will find a cozy queen bed on one side, and 3 twin beds on the other. Bedding is included! The loft is a shared space, but does provide some privacy when the curtain divider is drawn. We've included a hand crank Victrola with records for those days when you miss Spotify. THE OUTHOUSE The outhouse is conveniently located several paces away from the cabin and bonfire. It has a locking door with window and curtain for privacy. A bucket of wood shavings is provided to cover your waste and keep the smell down.
