Remote private tract in northern Michigan with Portage Creek to camp at, right up close. No neighbors, no other campers! 10 miles from Grayling so you can run into town for needed supplies with little time or effort. Bring your kayaks and swimsuit for a quick splash. The creek is mostly shallow with some deeper spots. There are downed trees so the kids can kayak without going too far away but they can go out of line of sight and hearing, so please be watchful.
The last ½ mile road in can be very sandy in spots or sometimes flooded so you are encouraged to call or enquire prior to arrival, 4WD recommended for towing an RV. We recommend your first arrival during daylight hours so you can see the entrance of the property. The non-maintained county road, the last ½ mile in is typically not passable during winter and snow seasons except by snowshoe or snowmobile due to the snow level.
Never leave children or pets unattended! Be aware of the chance encounter with an endangered massasauga rattler, it may be endangered but it is still poisonous and they have been seen on and around the property before. Ticks are on the rise, and the springtime can be very buggy, and mosquito-y with the surrounding swampy areas. There are bear, coyote, and an assortment of other creatures big and small. This is a wilderness area and so please be aware of wild animals.
Never leave your small contained fire unattended at the firepit and watch for sparks, completely douse the fire before you leave as this is a fire-prone area. No fires outside the firepit for safety reasons and fire hazards. If you want firewood here in Grayling, there are a few places that sell it. There is down debris in our woods but as the summer goes by, it may be picked through.
You can pull and circle through the open area with your RV, or you can tuck into the RV / camping spot. There is enough room for 5 or 6 cars but campers may crowd that a bit. If you are tent camping, you are welcome to set up elsewhere on the property. There are trails throughout the property and you may see the ‘No Trespassing’ signs all along the perimeter of the 23.7 acres. The toilet is now working again, but we ask that you not overtaxed it ;p . The small cabin is fairly stocked with pots and pans, good for campfire cooking. Picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate on site for your use.
There are tons of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities and water bodies very close by, or you can spend your time on this private tract. The military board land and small arms range is just past the road to the west, you may hear small arms practice at times, the sound of freedom.

Beautiful rustic property! From the wildflowers, to the stones, to the uniquely organized garden in Mrs. Jackie's front yard! Her lil fur-baby, Freya, is a JOY to have around! We got to see sooooo many meteors!! It was beautiful! Fire flies, meteors, a lil light thunderstorm beating on our tent while we listen to Thor beat his hammer! Beautiful experience! Highly recommend!

Great spot for camping! Tina and Tom’s property is remote, quiet, and relaxing. The area was clean and hook up was super simple. Tom was there when we arrived to show us the lay of the land and even let us borrow an adapter for a 50 amp hook up because we didn’t have one. Tina is super quick on responding to any questions. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a nice and private site with delightful hosts!

Lots of wood to collect for your fire! Dont need to bring any. James showed me around the area and was very welcoming. I drive a Honda Fit and was able to drive to site no issue. This is a huge plus!
I would note this area is very moist with creeks running throughout- this is a tick and mosquitoes warning if it wasn't already obvious. I sprayed my gear with 3% permethrin once I realized (tent and 2 outfits). I only saw about 3 the entire stay (3 nights) and checked myself constantly. I stayed on trail as much as possible and I had no issues! Just a heads up for any visitors. You do hear traffic across the way and a couple 4 wheelers in the field across during the day time. Dollar general 6 min away has everything you may need and some small cute shops in town. Walmart is 30 min away. I felt safe camping here as a solo female and cant wait to visit again.

We had an incredible time at this campspot! It was so private and beautiful. Being able to dip in the creek on a hot day and have zero people around was great! We didn't use the toilet or cabin as we're totally self contained, but it's so nice that they're available for people who need them. The host was super responsive and answered our questions quickly. We really appreciated the detailed info prior to arriving to set our expectations, especially for the road in. The two track to get to the land was fine, although we had some clearance issues in spots from low hanging branches. The washboard dirt road leading to the two track was rough for our converted ambulance. We had to go super slow to keep our drawers and cabinets from flying open. It was totally worth it though. We have never had such a peaceful 4th of July with our two noise-sensitive pups.

We had a wonderful time staying at Pineleaf! Our host, Tim, was very welcoming and hospitable. We stayed in the cabin. We woke up every morning to a great variety of birds and wildlife surrounding us, especially in the gorgeous field that the deck overlooked. The bed and outhouse bathroom were exceptionally clean. We highly recommend staying here and hope to come back soon!

The land was stunning and the hosts were very helpful. We came from hours away by the time we ended up arriving. It just happened to be storming, but the hosts were so nice and still helped my husband figure out how to get set up. There’s a few storage structures on the property but doesn’t get in the way of the beautiful area.

We keep coming back year after year, with Kevin and Lori having become family friends and the place holding core memories of traditional family gatherings with many little ones running around, playing on the ever expanding playground, and splashing in the pond.
This year, my son spent both nights in the treehouse with his cousins—even with thunderstorms (which he slept right through). Those will be core memories for him and my nephews growing up together. Thank you Kevin & Lori for keeping this place open as Best of HipCamp

We had an incredible stay at this cozy, private spot in the woods. We were a little worried about the dirt roads getting there, but we had no problems with the road in our converted ambulance, even in the rain. The land exceeded our expectations. It would be perfect for a group, but was serene and relaxing for just the two of us. The host has gone above and beyond to make the spot fun and accommodating for whatever vibe the campers want. The sitting area with a firepit, swing, and tiki torches was great. After a few days camping in the UP, the hot outdoor shower was awesome and getting to plug in so we could run our AC with no worries was such a relief. It was a bit buggy, but no more than you'd expect from such a lovely wooded area. This was one of the most private places we've ever found! We were sad that the subsequent days were booked as we wanted to stay here as long as possible. We will definitely return as soon as we can!

Tim is a legend. If you have the fortune to stay at his place, ask him how he built it. His passion for the area is infectious, and his hospitality was top notch.
The camping was perfect.
Definitely necessary to meet up with Tim if it’s your first time there, as it tricky to navigate.
10/10, definitely recommend.
