As our only guests you will enjoy a very private, secluded experience at our 40 acre camp. Our property is undeveloped, so you will need to bring your own drinking water, but there's no need to worry about finding firewood before you arrive as we supply you with all you need. Be sure to bring along your water shoes because our wooded trails will guide you right to the river's edge where you can enjoy the beauty and wildlife along the West Branch of the Sturgeon River, with no roads or houses in sight! This is also a great spot for stargazing and to watch the perseids meteor shower. For your convenience, a short walk from your campsite is a spacious rain shelter that includes 2 picnic tables, extra chairs, solar lights, and lots of books and games for rainy days. Remote private tract in northern Michigan with Portage Creek to camp at, right up close. No neighbors, no other campers! 10 miles from Grayling so you can run into town for needed supplies with little time or effort. Bring your kayaks and swimsuit for a quick splash. The creek is mostly shallow with some deeper spots. There are downed trees so the kids can kayak without going too far away but they can go out of line of sight and hearing, so please be watchful. The last ½ mile road in can be very sandy in spots or sometimes flooded so you are encouraged to call or enquire prior to arrival, 4WD recommended for towing an RV. We recommend your first arrival during daylight hours so you can see the entrance of the property. The non-maintained county road, the last ½ mile in is typically not passable during winter and snow seasons except by snowshoe or snowmobile due to the snow level. Never leave children or pets unattended! Be aware of the chance encounter with an endangered massasauga rattler, it may be endangered but it is still poisonous and they have been seen on and around the property before. Ticks are on the rise, and the springtime can be very buggy, and mosquito-y with the surrounding swampy areas. There are bear, coyote, and an assortment of other creatures big and small. This is a wilderness area and so please be aware of wild animals. Never leave your small contained fire unattended at the firepit and watch for sparks, completely douse the fire before you leave as this is a fire-prone area. No fires outside the firepit for safety reasons and fire hazards. If you want firewood here in Grayling, there are a few places that sell it. There is down debris in our woods but as the summer goes by, it may be picked through. You can pull and circle through the open area with your RV, or you can tuck into the RV / camping spot. There is enough room for 5 or 6 cars but campers may crowd that a bit. If you are tent camping, you are welcome to set up elsewhere on the property. There are trails throughout the property and you may see the ‘No Trespassing’ signs all along the perimeter of the 23.7 acres. The toilet is now working again, but we ask that you not overtaxed it ;p . The small cabin is fairly stocked with pots and pans, good for campfire cooking. Picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate on site for your use. There are tons of nearby outdoor recreational opportunities and water bodies very close by, or you can spend your time on this private tract. The military board land and small arms range is just past the road to the west, you may hear small arms practice at times, the sound of freedom.

Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas are a convenient drive where you can visit the many vineyards, orchards, shops and enjoy the beautiful vistas of the lake and bays, or shop some of the unique stores and galleries. There are many off road vehicle and bike trails that are not far away as well. As well as boating on beautiful Torch Lake and the chain of lakes. A day trip to Sleeping Bear dunes is well worth the drive. We would be happy to make suggestions on activities, dining, entertainment during your stay. We currently have three sites which are on seperate areas of the property. Lake View site is a Vintage 1985 Avion travel trailer which as been completely renovated with all new systems. It is located with a western view of Lake Skegemog and next to our grape and berry patch in our back yard. Maple Grove site is a new Coachmen Catalina Destination series RV. It is located on the front side of the property next to the maple tree grove. Lavender Lane is located in front of our barn with a view of our small orchard and the forest, close to the walking trail. All our sites are fully outfitted with quality linens, towels, dishes and cooking equipment. All of the units have Air Conditioned and heat. New this year is our chicken coop and run. We (Bill) has always wanted chickens.

Chad and I are long-time residents of Kalkaska County. We are also avid kayakers, runners, and overall nature enthusiasts. We are blessed with an amazing property on the North Branch of the Manistee River! It isn't the main branch of the Manistee River, BUT it flows right into it and offers so much more privacy, quietness, and peacefulness. With the 8 acres, it's perfect for glamping camping! The amazing bath house is furnished with a roomy shower, toilet and sink. It also contains a kitchenette with a large sink, microwave, small refrigerator and breakfast table. Plug in your cell phones as well to recharge for the next day’s adventure! Coffee, spices, popcorn and breakfast treats may also be available :)

Fantastic private site, you feel like you're waking up in a well-tended meadow. You can tell that Jackie puts a lot of thought and care into her property in the little details like easy access to water/ power and additional firewood. Jackie came out daily to check to see if we needed anything, she would let her sweet dogs say hello for a minute, then give you the privacy you're craving on a property like hers. Absolutely will stay again and highly recommend to others.

The site was nice and quiet. We were in tents so we camped on the grassy parts. Gravel area would be nice for travel trailers. Fire wood for sale on site. Outdoor Shower was warm and nice after sitting in the sun/hot weather all day. Bring your own tp for outhouse. Owner has Cameras on site to watching entrance. Would definitely return.

Nice site, as described. Quiet and perfect for stargazing. Having the property to ourselves made the site perfect. Friendly and helpful host. Only thang that came up was that the septic couldn’t handle us dumping black and gray tanks at the same time.

Enjoyed this Hipcamp a lot! Close to off road trails and many beaches. Camped with tent and my 2 small dogs. Very quiet, away from crowds and didn’t hear road noise. Felt alone, secluded from other campers for privacy at site. Stars are bright and there’s a bathroom in a camper on the property, near sites. Would definitely stay again and do hope to come back this way for the opportunity.

We absolutely loved staying here! The property is huge and very private. There is a lovely trail through the woods, a nice fire pit with wood provided, a picnic table and a trash can available. We were here for the peak of the Perseid meteor shower and had an awesome view. Tina and Tom are very friendly and available should you need anything. This is a great base camp for visiting any of the multitude of nearby lakes or hiking trails. We will definitely come back!

We really enjoyed our stay! The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, met us when we arrived to show us around, and gave us some great recommendations for places nearby. The site was clean, peaceful, and very well cared for, and they made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit! We especially loved falling asleep to the sound of the stream each night. The string lights inside and out made the site feel so cozy, and the hot outdoor shower was another favorite! We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend it.

A perfect spot for camping. The property is absolutely beautiful. It felt (and was) very private. The included firewood was a nice touch. The trails were clearly marked and the river that runs through the property was picturesque. So quiet and so peaceful. As we were leaving, i told my partner this place is what Hipcamp is for. We will be back!

The owner is very cool. I had trouble finding the place so I would recommend going to this place in the daylight. But he answered very promptly and helped me find it. We also had wood waiting. We booked this place last minute so I did not get the best site but would recommend if you’re looking for a quick place to stay that’s near torch Lake.
