Nice spot, the level sand made for comfortable sleeping. Lots of birds out and a nice creek running by. A little smaller than the pictures looked, it fit our group with three cars and three tents but wouldn’t fit much more than that.

We loved camping on Sarah's land. It was beautiful and private. Nice little outhouse that's not too far away. You have to hike everything in, but once you're all set up, it's perfect. My kids loved the closeness of the walking trail and the creek.

The site was so serene and beautiful! We even had a bald eagle fly around while we were sitting by the fire! The grounds are well kept and the sound of water running from the creek and river was such a treat to fall asleep to. The cabin and 40 Acre Wood were a great place to unwind and relax for a weekend. The cabin was so cozy and comfortable and had every amenity you could hope for: mini frig, toaster oven, coffee maker, and plenty of outlets for charging some of the essentials. The trails around the property were great as well and I really appreciated the maps that were available.

Picture perfect, private and and quiet river front camping on the Muskegon River! The spring-fed creek was the cherry on top. Hands down, my new favorite spot in lower Michigan.

This was the best camping spot! We normally do camp sites w hookups but this was better! Fresh water was waiting for us as well as a nice bundle of dry firewood with small twigs and paper to help start the fire! The outhouse was super cute and clean too! We stayed in campsite #2 and I loved that we couldn’t see #1 or #3! I definitely recommend coming here if you get the chance!

Loved the privacy of this place. My son and his friend caught lots of fish and we cooked them over the fire pit that is provided. We hiked a bit to explore. A bit of very loud vehicles on the road well into the middle of the night that you can hear from the campsite. Not sure what is going on there but not a huge deal. I’d recommend a stay here. The sites were kept up very nicely. This was my second time here.

Red Barn Cabin

If you have other guests that would like to bring in a camper, you can do that for an additional charge. The cabin includes a cozy full size bed, living space with couch (folds out to a twin bed), chair, kitchen table and chairs, stove, refrigerator, microwave, Kuerig coffee maker, sink and bathroom with flush toilet. We also have an outdoor shower with hot water. The cabin is furnished with everything you need, plates, glasses, coffee cups, pots, pans, bath & kitchen towels, etc. We have also just added air conditioning and the cabin does have heat for those chilly spring & fall days. We have 60 acres with a mix of grassy fields, rolling terrain, food plots and wooded areas. There is two smaller ponds on site along with remote areas which are perfect for primitive tent camping away from the barn. You will have access to the entire 60 acres so feel free to explore and enjoy the wildlife. We have a century old barn on site, currently the barn is not available for use but we hope to renovate it in the future. Our property is perfect for taking those special family photos and the barn and terrain have been featured in many family backdrops. We are about a mile from the Scenic Pere Marquette River which is home to some fantastic fishing opportunities or spend the day paddling and exploring. There are also numerous lakes and streams within just a few miles and the beautiful Ludington Beach and State Park are within 20 minutes. The North Country Trail is nearby as well as numerous acres of public land with excellent hunting opportunities. We do have a fire pit, picnic table, charcoal grill as well as a patio table with 4 chairs & umbrella on site and we are adding to the site all the time. Come stay, play and relax in your own country oasis.

Lynx Run Wilderness Retreat

My property (Lynx Run) has an amazing geological and historical background. During the last ice age, glacial waters carved out the ravine in which the Betts Creek flows. Sometimes, the creek drops over 60 feet below the surrounding terrain as it meanders back and forth in oxbows as it flows toward the Muskegon River. It was once the hunting, foraging and camping grounds of the Potawatami Indians. In the late 1800's it was at the center of the Michigan Timber Industry. Running along the edge of my property is the old railroad bed where timber was once hauled away. Only two miles from my home, the logs were sent down the side of the hill and into the Muskegon River on log chutes and then floated to where the Muskegon empties into Lake Michigan. Piles of field stones indicate that after the timber industry moved on, farmers moved in and attempted to tame the land. But, fortunately for me, the land was abandoned by the farmers and has returned to a much more natural and pristine state. My land is now a part of the Manistee National Forest and I am surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful land (both public and private). I am the only person who lives back here in this part of the forest, so seclusion and privacy are wonderful and the wildlife and beauty is abundant.

We are 10 minutes from the Lake Michigan shore, and many beaches are close by. You have a choice of gorgeous sand beaches with picturesque dunes, and rocky beaches for those looking for fossils, agates, beach glass and beautiful beach stones. We are within an hour of Sleeping Bear Dunes which has award winning hiking. Traverse City is 40 minutes away with many activities, especially the Cherry Festival. The area is known for live music venues, and lots of weekend art festivals. Manistee is also home to the Little River Casino. We have firepits at each campsite, dry firewood is available to purchase, feel free to pay by cash, Venmo or CashApp, cost is $11.00 a wheelbarrow. Fresh flowers are available to purchase, seasonally. An outhouse is available for use and is supplied with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. There is a garbage can and recycling bin near the outhouse. We installed a water hydrant so you can get potable water to bring back to your site, or hose off with on the spot. A scenic small creek runs by many of the campsites. This site is accessible by a gravel driveway that leads to secluded land perfect for your camping getaway. There is tree cover, but also open areas. We have a designated area for camping that includes a fire pit, ground level metal deck, and a comfortable outhouse. There is no power or running water. Experience camping for real! (fun fact: this property has been passed down four generations of women!) We are near downtown Manton, downtown Mesick, and downtown Cadillac. Our favorite places to visit are Dayhuff lake (10 minute drive), numerous seasonal roads and trails, the Manistee River, Traverse City (45mins), Emerald Vale Golf Course (10 minutes), and Pleasant Valley Amish market for baked goods (5 min). Notes based on feedback that we've gotten from campers: -the driveway is steep, as seen in the listing photos. The recommendation for trailer size should be followed (18ft trailer max, plus 17ft car/truck). There is a corner at the top of the hill that might be tight for anything larger. I will note that there is a review where someone made it through with a 21ft trailer plus their vehicle; proceed as you will with this information.

Overview

If you thought the only lakeshores worth noting were those of the Great Lakes, think again. As the county seat of Michigan’s landlocked Lake County, Baldwin more than makes up for its distance from Lake Michigan (although the lakeshore itself is only a 40-minute drive away). Nestled in the heart of the Manistee National Forest, the small town retreat has easy access to both the Baldwin River and the Pere Marquette River, and is surrounded by more than 100 inland lakes. Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of ways to get on the water, whether canoeing and kayaking along the rivers, fishing for trout and steelhead, or checking into one of the region’s many lakeside campgrounds, national forest campsites, and riverfront cabins.
