Enjoy the tranquility of the countryside while taking in the beauty of Northern Michigan. Our primitive glamping site offers many comforts, including a queen-size bed, solar-powered chargers, and a portable shower. THE TENT Includes: • Queen-size bed with sheets, comforter, pillows, and blankets • Nightstands • Papasan chair • Battery-operated lights and lanterns • Coat rack • Towels, shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel • Dishware (plates, bowls, cups, and mugs) and cutlery • Cooking utensils, including wooden spoons, spatulas, measuring cups and spoons, and a butcher block with knives • Propane cooking stove (fuel included) • French press-style coffee maker • Portable solar charger for cell phones • Games and books • First-aid kit • Hand sanitizer OUTDOOR AREA Includes: • Covered porch area • Fire pit with firewood provided • Outdoor chairs and a small table • Large prep table with camp stove, water dispenser, cookware, and cleaning supplies • Portable toilet, professionally serviced and cleaned after each stay • Gravity-fed shower with water heated by a small propane heater • Barbecue grill with charcoal and cooking utensils provided THE FARM You will be staying on a working farm. Although the site is located at the back of the property, you will be able to see cattle, chickens, turkeys, and pigs during your stay. You may wake up to a rooster crowing or the sound of cows grazing nearby (don't worry—they are fenced in!). Feel free to take a walk and observe the animals in their pastures. Please be aware that this is a working farm and respect the animals and the electrified fences that keep them safe. For your safety, avoid farm equipment, buildings, and our home unless accompanied by us.

Black Sheep Landings

13. Black Sheep Landings

41mi from Atlanta · 1 site
Every family has a black sheep: the one who does things their own way and somehow ends up being everyone’s favorite anyway. That’s where the name comes from, and it fits the land just as well as it fits the stay. Black Sheep Landings is 10 acres of real, working Northern Michigan land, located roughly halfway between Boyne City and Boyne Mountain. Trees line two sides of the site, giving you a sense of separation without pretending you’re in the middle of nowhere. This is a rural road, and you’ll hear the occasional truck pass, especially in the early morning. We’d rather tell you that upfront than have you discover it on your own. This isn’t a polished resort with manicured pads and cookie-cutter sites. It’s a working property. There’s a barn nearby with some honest wear on its siding, and a couple of areas around the property are still a work in progress. None of that affects your stay. What you get is a site that’s entirely yours, with a real fire pit at the center, a gazebo covering a screened-in picnic table so dinner doesn’t turn into a bug buffet, and plenty of open space to park whatever you bring—trucks, trailers, ATVs, bikes, boats, and more. We live close by, about 100 yards up the driveway, which means help is never far if you need it. It also means this isn’t a deep-woods, off-grid kind of stay. It’s a working landscape with room to breathe, not total isolation. The driveway itself is steep, so take it slow on your way in and out, especially when there’s snow on the ground. Bring the dog. Bring the whole crew, honestly—there’s room for both. This is the kind of place you come to for the fire pit at night, the acreage during the day, and the freedom to enjoy the property at your own pace.

Escape to Forest Hollow, a quiet 2.5-acre wooded retreat tucked into the trees near Mancelona, Michigan. This private, rustic setting offers a true back-to-nature experience with a loop road winding through the forest and a peaceful tent site in a shaded clearing. The campsite is set about 150 feet back from the road, screened by trees for privacy, with the nearest neighbor roughly 300+ feet to the northwest. Wildlife is common — you’ll often spot squirrels, birds, deer, and rabbits around the property. The site features its own fire pit, perfect for evenings by the campfire. As you’re in the middle of the woods, mosquitoes are present and can be worse in the evenings. Bug spray is recommended around the fire at night. This is primitive camping. There is no potable water, toilet, or shower on site, so guests must be fully self-contained. Please bring your own water, camp toilet, and gear, and practice Leave No Trace. A trail leads to the back of the property, where I’m currently building a small A-frame cabin. Guests are welcome to explore the trail, but please stay out of the active construction area and the A-frame itself for safety. There is also a section being cleared for a future septic field that contains many small stumps — please avoid this area. The property is conveniently located just a few miles from Mancelona for supplies and about 15 minutes from Torch Lake and Bellaire. The area offers excellent nearby trails for hiking and mountain biking, along with many lakes and rivers that make it a great base for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. Torch Lake is known for its crystal-clear water, and there’s a small sandy beach on Lake Bellaire. I provide guests with a map highlighting local food, activities, and attractions in the area. For security, a trail camera monitors the entrance of the property. Feel free to explore, relax, and enjoy the peaceful setting. I’m happy to share local recommendations — just ask!
