Just a short 200 foot walk up the hill into the woods from your parking spot. This site is accessible by a gravel driveway that leads to secluded land perfect for your camping getaway. There is tree cover, but also open areas. We have a designated area for camping that includes a fire pit, ground level metal deck, and a comfortable outhouse. There is no power or running water. Experience camping for real! (fun fact: this property has been passed down four generations of women!) We are near downtown Manton, downtown Mesick, and downtown Cadillac. Our favorite places to visit are Dayhuff lake (10 minute drive), numerous seasonal roads and trails, the Manistee River, Traverse City (45mins), Emerald Vale Golf Course (10 minutes), and Pleasant Valley Amish market for baked goods (5 min). Notes based on feedback that we've gotten from campers: -the driveway is steep, as seen in the listing photos. The recommendation for trailer size should be followed (18ft trailer max, plus 17ft car/truck). There is a corner at the top of the hill that might be tight for anything larger. I will note that there is a review where someone made it through with a 21ft trailer plus their vehicle; proceed as you will with this information.

This cozy cabin in the woods was exactly the peaceful getaway we needed. The starry nights, crackling campfires, and quiet walks through the forest with our dog made the stay unforgettable. The cabin itself was warm, welcoming, and full of thoughtful touches, especially the welcoming basket waiting for us. The propane gas fireplace kept us perfectly comfortable on the cold nights, and the entire space felt like a true retreat. We loved having time to relax, recharge, and enjoy nature together. We loved camping at Rick’s! The cabin was well stocked with spices, flashlights, cozy and nice bedding. Rick resupied firewood for us and pointed out the trails to explore. The view from the cabin porch was beautiful with lots of colorful trees. The firepit was huge and we used the grates to cook over the fire. We’re coming back next summer!

This place is awesome!!! The cabin is so cozy and it is clear that a lot of thought has been put into this stay (extra lights, lighters, charcoal for the grill, multiple chairs, condiments, lots of wood etc.). My dog and I were nice and toasty when it got down below freezing. The outhouse was spotless. The fire pit and yard were so charming at night. Lots of trails to walk. The hosts were fantastic and treat you like family. I will be going again

Easy spot to get to driving; location and directions are accurate. Appreciated the heads up of minimal cell service for Verizon customers. Beautiful spot in the woods. Sandy, flat soil makes tent stakes easy to go in. Plenty of privacy from the road and nearby buildings. A little more road noise than anticipated, but not that bad. Host provided everything needed at the camp site and more: private area for showers/changing, plenty of firewood, picnic table, drinking water, extra table (very helpful!), fire pit, portapot that was exceptionally clean and fully stocked. Host was great at communicating before and during the stay. Location is convenient to all rivers, hiking, etc. in the area. Would stay here again and recommend for anyone wanting to stay in the area!

Rick's place was such a gift. There were so many signs of thoughtfulness and insight into his prepared mind. Not only was the cabin equipped w/ basics but he also offers extras such as raincoats, hammocks, and what not. The property is well cared for, he has beautifully growing plants on the front porch The outhouse was actually nice, well stocked, and it was clean! The cabin too, was very clean, cleanest tiny cabin in woods I've seen yet! I like how he designed and decorated the cabin, it felt much bigger than it was. The framed bear art was so enjoyable to look at, each time I'd find something I hadn't before. It was like a mix between a Hieronymus Bosch piece and a teddy bears picnic! I highly recommend, he's a really nice easy going guy, pleasant to communicate with.

Carole and Art are two of the sweetest, most accommodating hosts you'll ever hope to meet! The amount of care and effort they put into making you feel comfortable is second to none. Like I told them, they thought of everything! Even the doggos and kiddos are made to feel welcome. There were even games for children of all ages to play - outdoors and in. For me, it was a solo trip. Carole and Art's property is so quiet and relaxing and was just what the Mental Health Professional ordered! I highly recommend the Arcala Bunkhouse for individuals, couples, groups, and families alike. The property has hills all around and is adjacent to a tree farm. Everything is so beautiful! I took so many pictures of the landscape and wildlife. I shared the atypical ones in order to not repeat the pictures that were already posted. Thank you Carole and Art for being amazing hosts and making my weekend truly memorable!

We’ve stayed at Camp Moonshadow twice and love the site, the places to visit nearby, and the hospitality we’ve received from Robb and Jeanne! I could not recommend staying here more.
